I have a 2month old little girl who is sleeping in our room. I know I need to start putting her in her crib at night but I am having my own seperation issues. Any tricks to ease my mind? We have a monitor, but she is on the other side of the house and I guess I am just parinoid that I won't hear if she needs me. Plus, everyone always says not to cover her with a blanket- and she will not let me swaddle her anymore. I try and put her down in her crib for naps during the day but they only last 10mins or so before she wakes up in a panic. I know she is still young but, I want to nip this in the bud before I have a toddler sleeping in my room every night-

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for their awesome tips!
So here is what happened...
Last night I put her bassinet inside her crib. She fell asleep while I was feeding her and I put her inside her bassinet and turned on her monitor. Then I gave myself a peptalk and went to bed with the monitor right by my head. Too my surprise she didn't wake up until 3:45am!!!! YEA!!! So I fed her and put her back in bed- then not a peep out of her until 7:15am. It was so wonderful to sleep! I think I even slept better because I couldn't hear her every slight sound. I am going to keep doing this and gradually take the bassinet out of her crib and go from there.
Thanks again for everyone's responses!

I waited until my little one was 3 months before I put her in her crib. I had the same issues as you did about the anxiety. We started lying her down for naps in her crib, but still in her moses basket, so that the transition was easier. If you have a snug place that you could put her inside her crib, like a moses basket, I think it might help. It did with my baby, and now she is 5 1/2 mos. and sleeping like a champ! We use a blanket though. She has a light one that is knitted, so it has holes in it. We've never had an issue. I know what they say, but both of my kids, and every other baby I know, has had a blankie, and they have been fine. Hope this helps!

The basket part of my bassinet detached from the base, so I put the basket in the crib and it worked wonderfully for both of my babies. The first couple nights I was up a lot making sure that the monitor was really working and nothing had happened in their rooms, but after that it was all downhill (at least for that hurdle!). Good luck!

I waited until mine were 3 1/2 months old and could roll over. They both slept on the tummies so I was extra worried, but once they could roll I knew they would be fine. The outgrew the bassinet early so I just moved their cribs in my room. Once they were sleeping in the crib next to me it was so easy to just move the crib back into their rooms when it was time.

Our baby has slept in his crib in his room since he was brought home, so essentially day one in his home. I just had to believe that he would be fine in his room, and he was. In general, I think parents put their babies in their rooms b'c it makes them feel better having them closeby so we can check on them every now and then. And, whenever the weather was bad like thunderstorms, I would put our baby in his bassinet part of pack/play, and he'd sleep right beside me in our room but other than that, he's been fine in his crib in his room.

Baby monitors are awesome little devices, and ours is so loud i keep it on the mid-range level, and I can wake up in an instant when he makes a peep. Trust me, If your baby cries, you will hear it...you have k9 mommy ears, and you can and will hear everything, even the slightest sigh your baby does. My husband never hears anything at night, but I hear every little noise he makes.

You just have to decide when you want to do this and do it. I have a friend who still sleeps with her 3 yr old so I agree that you should do this sooner rather than later.

Our baby would not stay swaddled either, so I started using Halo sleepsacks (a wearable blanket). It kept his body covered, but it's more safe than a regular blanket. Babies R Us has lots of them in different styles/colors/clothweight like cotton, thermal and quilted cotton.
