Hospitilization for Morning Sickness

Sorry this is not on the morning sickness but i hope you have help with the 2 little ones at home b/c i know how hard it is to have two kids that is like only less than two years apart than be prego with the thrid but for me it was twins and i was so tired all the time and i was so sleepy. I feel for you so much b/c it is hard being prego with little ones in the house than this on top of it would suck. If you are in the evansville area there is a place if you need a day to sleep it is call the ARK and it is free to take the kids no matter what you make. I would of not been able to take my kids if you only can make so much. I was the same way with my second son. They called it hyperimmissis. I also took the phenergan and zofran but like you couldn't funtion on the phenergan so after I kept losing weight they placed a PICC-line (peripherally inserted central catheter) with TPN (total parenteral nutrition). It's an IV that can stay in your arm for months. I ran an IV for 12 hours then could disconnect it for 12 hours. I did it while I slept so i didn't feel so tied down all the time. It also allowed me to take my meds through the IV..
Be careful if you are taking the pherergan throught the IV because it works so fast that I had to be in the place I wanted to sleep because right after I took it I would start feeling tingling all over my body then pass out. It was much faster than the pills.
I had a home health care nurse come out every few days to change the dressing around the PICC-line and the meds were delivered to my home.
Hopefully they can get this under control and you will only have to go into the hospital once for dehydration but if it keeps happening then it's likely they will do what they did to me. I was actually relieved when they did because I could be at home with my other son instead of stuck in a hospital every few days or weeks.

Wow, a 2 year old and a one year old plus pregnant. You truly have your hands full. No time there for morning sickness..... I am sorry to hear that you feel so misserable.
I have had IV fluids for dehydration. For me it did not take hospitalization though. My dr. refered me to the ER and since they knew I was coming they took me back immediately. I had 2 bags of fluids and if I was able to keep a cup of water in I was send on my way home. Eventhough this is not fun, it was better than being in the hospital.
I also think that it would be better to take the phenegan and be able to stay home even if it makes you drowsy than to be in the hospital?

I did not have morning sickness really with my first two but did with my third child. It lasted till about 3 mths and then I felt ok. I would ask your Dr. what he/she thinks and go from there.

I personally have not had morning sickness this bad but I had a friend who was pregnant with twins and she experienced this. She had an IV that she could take home and wear anywhere that she could give herself her medicine and nutritional supplements. Check with your doctor to see if this is an option.

I was terribly sick with both children. I lost 15 pounds and was in the hospital with migraines because of lack of hydration. I was given a wonder-drug that I swear by! It is called FTAN, first trimester anti nauseant. It is made at Mar-Main pharmacy in South Bend and they will autoship it directly to you. You need a prescription but it is completely safe and works miracles.
I ran out and thought I would be fine, but I starting throwing up the minute I ate anything without it, even chicken broth!
Look into it, you will not be unhappy and hopefully feel better.

Morning Sickness can definitely land you in the hospital for dehydration. I, personally, didn't have to go in. I had really bad morning sickess with my first and threw up all the time for the first 5 months. I lost 15 lbs, but I had a little bit of extra weight to begin with so I my doctor wasn't too concerned. I drank gatorade a lot, even if I threw it up, because I didn't want to end up in the hospital for dehydration. So, I know it is hard, but try to drink as much as you can. Always have a water bottle with you all the time, and force yourself to drink it. That is what I had to do, and I was fine. Thankfully, around 5.5 months, I stopped throwing up daily and felt a little nauseous but that was all. With my second pregnancy, I didn't throw up. I was nauseous for the first trimester, then that went away. Good luck!

As you can see from all of the responses you received, many moms have experienced what you are. My children are older now, one just got married so for her sake when she starts a family.. I'm very glad to hear they have made progress in treating morning sickness. She has such a sensitive stomach!

I remember they almost hospitalized me with my 2nd.. seems like that is common for a lot of the women who posted. I think we get worn out caring for our 1st..that certainly doesn't help that we don't get as much rest as we did when we didn't have any other children to care for..

but back in the 80's /early 90's, they were VERY cautious about giving any drugs to moms during pregnancy.. not even tylenol during pregnancy. crazy, I know. When I got a headache my ob told me to put an ice pack on the back of my neck. With my morning sickness, I just had to throw up. sip 7up.. eat crackers and walk around like a zombie. It was just ridiculous. Good to see there are some accepted medications now. I'm assuming they all have been tested and are safe to use.

A friend of mine had this issue with her first pregnancy and it appears it is going to happen with her second as well. She was also prescribed Zophran but it too wore off. With her first pregnancy she was finally put on a permanent IV or picc line/pick line. I think she had this for the remainder of the pregnancy. So yes, unfortunately it can get this bad. Sorry you are going through this. I hope the doctors can get you feeling better soon!!!!

I had hyperemesis with both of my pregnancies. With my son I was hospitalized twice for dehydration. I took a combination of zofran, unisom, and B6 and when that stopped working I took zofran and phenegran. If the phenegran makes you too drowsy, try 1/2 a unisom tablet along with the zofran (as long as your OB oks it). It worked wonders for me. Anyway, if you are dehydrated, it will only get worse and you should definitely consider having an iv. With my son I lost 40lbs due to the constant nauseau and vomiting. It only went away when he was born - he was almost 8lbs so even though I was as sick as I was, he obviously got all the nutrients he needed.

Hi there - sorry you are going through this. I had severe morning sickness throughout my entire pregnancy and also lost 15 pounds - I had to take zofran the entire time. I also had to go to the hospital twice for IV hydration because I was dehydrated. Once I got through the first trimester, I was able to keep more down and didn't need the IV. Good luck!!
