Ok Mommas I am in need of your great ideas. My daughter will be leaving for Army basic training 5 days after Thanksgiving:( Yes, I am very proud of her. I want to have a going away party for her before she leaves. How would I word the invites? What kind of ideas would you recommend for a theme/decorations? Yes the obvious would be an army theme but I just had an army themed(?) b-day party for my 6 yrs old son about 3 months ago so I was maybe looking for a more grown up idea. Now that I think about it I will probably make it a going away/birthday as she will be turning 19 yrs old 2 weeks after she leaves. Help please! Anybody had a going away for basic training party? So any ideas, thoughts, advise will be appreciated!
As far as having a party for her once she is done because I'm not sure when she would be able to come back home for the weekends which I'm sure will be a while before that happens.
Thanks in advance to you all! :)

What can I do next?

Why not do an 80's party.. those are so much fun and all the music is pretty awesome.. I wouldn't do an army theme.. she's going to be eating sleeping and breathing army for the next, what, 16 weeks? Steer clear of the military theme (trust me my husband was in boot camp with the USCG) the fun memories of this party will be what gets her through boot camp!

I bet you are proud!
Heck I would do the stars and stripes.. Everything! You could even give out small American Flags as gifts. Army men.. and women.

Maybe pick her two favorite colors and just have a color theme for the party? or what about red, white, and blue?

Could you call it a send -off party when you word the invites?

Tell her thanks for her commitment to serving our country!

I was a navy brat, navy wife and navy mom. All my navy related parties were either blue and gold (navy colors) or red, white and blue/stars and stripes. In the navy the golden eagle is a prevalent symbol, so I used it a lot as well. Also, a nautical theme came in handy. I don't know all that much about the army, but I think bugles and cannons are common symbols. I would use Army colors (black and gold). The Army insignia (easily found one the internet) Maybe play the army song - Caissons Go Rolling Along/Army Goes Rolling Along. You get the picture... :D

Good luck to your daughter.

I don't know that you need a theme at her age. I think a good luck/happy birthday party is a wonderful idea! Get her favorite foods and family and friends together. That's all you need.

I think the Army theme is still the way to go. When my son made Staff Sergeant he called me on a Saturday morning to tell me, and that he and his family would be at my house for a weekend visit in a few hours. i called a local bakery (I didn't have time to do it!) and asked for an Army themed cake. She decorated it with little Army trucks, soldiers, tanks and candy rocks (he was in the Infantry) around "dirt" roads and hills, and he loved it. This grown man Staff Sergeant took all the toys from the cake home with him ; )

Thank your daughter for serving our country for me, will you? You have every right to be a proud mom, HOOAH (Hoorah is for Marines)!!

You can do pink camo, that is very popular right now and is very cute. You can try googling it online to order. Party stores here have camo if you wanted to do a camo theme but just tweak it a bit from when your son had his party.

I bought camo scrapbook paper once and made invitations for my son to have an army bday party.

If you can't figure out a theme, just use her favorite color and get plates, napkins, table cloths, balloons, etc in that color. Pink and black is really cute together.

Have fun!

Have a journal area so people could write their well wishes to her. Put a journal or some paper on a table w/some pens and people can stop by throughout the party and write something. (keep in mind she might be limited in what she brings so don't have them write on anything too bulky).

Yes, American flag themed. Should be cheap too since it's not in season. I would mention on the invite that it's a send-off/birthday party. Build-a-bear makes a soldier bear that sings "proud to be an american". And she's not too old for it. My mom bought my dad one, lol.

I like the idea of a "send-off." Cammo or red white and blue sounds great. Army's got that new pixelated cammo, so a bit different than your son's party. And I think you can likely find a lot of "Army" items online.

Wish I had more ideas. Sorry.
