lemon drops
anything with ginger
stay away from caffeine (that means chocolate too)

If she is only in the first trimester, remind her to eat frequent small meals, and nibble a few saltines before getting vertical in the morning (seriously---before she sits up in the bed).
If she is beyond first trimester and is still suffering at 5 or 6 months, suggest she ask her doctor about Zofran. It's an anti-emitic anti-nausea medication that can help. It is off-label use, but it made a dramatic difference for me, and for many others.

Does her prenatal vitamin have a high dose of Iron? If so, she should ask her doctor to switch her to a lower iron supplement, and take it at night before she goes to bed. With my first baby, I was on a super high-dose iron supplement and it made me sicker than a dog! I spoke with my doctor and he switched my vitamins. It didn't totally eliminate the morning sickness, but I felt a lot better. Also a higher dose of B vitamins may help.

The other thing that I tried that did help was to eat ginger. You can get little jars of pickled ginger, usually in the Asian section of the grocery store. Just eating a little bit, or even drinking ginger tea, can help calm the stomach.

Also, she could try bringing the mini Saltine crackers with her, and just eat one every 20 minutes or so - just enough so her stomach is never totally empty.

I hope she finds something that works! :(

I had terrible morning-sickness AND migraines with both my pregnancies.
The ONLY thing that stopped it, was Acupuncture.
This was suggested to me, by my OB/GYN.

It does not hurt.
It is actually very relaxing. And it works.

I agree with asking the doctor about a different pre-natal vitamin. My doctor switched the one I was on, and it helped some. I've also heard that Sea Bands are supposed to help (but haven't tried them myself)

for me personally I would just throw up in the shower every morning first thing. the few times i didn't i felt icky all day. After I did i felt much better.

I also use seabands on occasion the help with nausea. They are sweat bands with little beads that sit on a pressure point to relieve that feeling. I have hit the pressure points on carnival rides when I felt sick and it works. The cool thing is no drugs and it works pretty much immediately.

Linum B-6 from Standard Process helped me a TON and like 12 of my friends. It's flax-based B vitamin and if she can't keep it down in the am, she take take right before she goes to bed at night. It's almost instant. My girlfriend took 4 of them at night and the next morning, it was gone. I had to take 6-8 of them, so it worked best for me to take them 2 - 4x/day.

Cracker can help with the symptoms, but what is the cause? All of those crackers can increase for blood sugar, as they breakdown into pure sugar.

I could not take prenatals at all with my last pregnancy - I'd get SO sick. I was on iron supplements (perscribed) and had no problems with JUST those.

Also - ginger tea and ginger candy both helped some.

I did throw up at least once/day even so. It is some comfort, I hope, to know that nausea can be a sign of a healthy baby (many healthy pregnancies didn't have nausea, I know).

When she wakes up in the morning. Tell her before she gets out a bed to eat about 6 saltines with gingerale and wait a minute before she gets out of bed. It could be going from laying for a long period of time to sitting up.

Sea bands. You can get them at the drugstore. Where them on the wrist; they work wonders for morning sickness. Also:

Melons like watermelon, cantaloupe or honeydew
Seltzer water (no calories, no sugar, no salt)
Lemonade

What worked for me was sucking on lemon wedges. Preggie pops helped too.

Ginger ale
Sprite
Lemonheads candies (something about the tart helps)
pickled ginger (just a tiny bite would help me)

I also had to eat on a pretty regular schedule. I knew when i was getting close to the time (about every 2 hours lol) because I'd start feeling nauseous.

prescription to zophran
even blood sugars- skip all sugar (honey, juice, white sugar, syrup) and eat smaller meals more always with some protein or fiber to slow absorption

She should avoid letting her stomach get too empty. Keep snacks on hand. What works best for me is slightly bland, but salty snacks-things like saltines, goldfish crackers, ritz crackers, pretzels.

I agree with the Sea bands wrist bands. They worked great for me. I also had to take my pre-natal vitamins at night before bedtime because they made me queasy but if I took them before bed I would sleep thru the queasiness. Hope that helps.

The thing that worked best for me were Preggie Pops. I found them at Motherhood Maternity (not sure that chain is still around?). If she's not near one of these stores, she might try sucking on regular hard candy. I've heard that also can help.

Ginger is also supposed to help with morning sickness.

I had to put crackers, or pop tarts, in my desk and eat at a certain time. That was the only thing that worked, even though I ate a good breakfast. I got sick AFTER I got to work too. She'll just have to see what works best for her!!
