Sorry if TMI: I had a natural m/c at 6w2d 7/12 after spotting 7/11 that became more heavy and dark. At the ER the Dr said that he beleived I had passed everything. A few hours later at home I passed more and bled for about 11 days or so. Then stopped for 2 days then I started again and thought it was my period and that lasted 4-5 days. for the past few weeks I have been blood tested 5 times to make sure hcg levels were dropping and they did alot but I had blood drawn last wed and levels were still high for the amount of time since m/c so i had a re draw last Fri and levels are still elevated. I also noticed that i didn't ovulate this past month, and now relize that it may be due to my body still thinking I'm pregnant becasue of hcg levels still in me which I've read trick the body to not have cycle of period and O'ing. I feel fine physically but worried about what elevated hcg this long after m/c can mean. Any thoughts of ideas? I've read that levels shouls drop to normal not pg reange by 6wks post/m/c and it's been a tad longer than that and i'm no near 0. I had planned to try to conceive in sept but cannot if unless hcg goes back to normal and stays that way and I have 2 normal periods. What do you think is going on? I do plan to call dr tomarrow and ask what the level from Fri was and if it had changed at all from the wed test, and what in their opinion could be the casue.
Thanks for your responses.

Part 2:
Thank you for your responses. We in response to some of the responses I recieved, I don't think it is possible that I am pregnant. I've had a pelvic exam a wk and a half ago and he said everything is normal and fine and I have only had sex once scince the m/c and we used protection (I know it's not a guarentee) but I don't beleive i'm pregnant. I'm figuring it's just gona take longer than I thought for levels to drop.

So What Happened?

Well, I now know why my hcg levels were still up. On 8/23 pm I got what I beleived to be my period. Had some little cramps and the next day woke up feeling fine still bleeding, used a tampon and went about my day doing errands etc. When I got home I put my son down for a nap and went to the bathroom, removed tampon and went #2 (sorry tmi) and imediatly after going I had severe abdominal pain and had shakey, hot/cold feelings and was about to pass out so I somehow managed to get to my bed and laid down. The pain was so intense that I was unable to move. I tried looking for a phone and it was not on the charger, my hands begas to tingle and become numb, I tried to role over to get up and screamed in pain, my body was going into shock. I laid like that for 5 min seemed like forever though and knew that I had to get to a phone before I passed out of i'd be in big trouble so I gathered every strength left in me to get down the hall to a phone, I couldn't even see very well as I was blacking out so much. I grabbed the phone called 911 and an abulance was here within 5 min or so. I got to the ER where they did testing of blood etc and ultrasound. My husband arrived from work as they were waiting on results from tests. He said as soon as they came in the Dr's whole attitude changed from calm to get her into the operating room now we have to save her life. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy which I was having severe massive internal bleeding. My hemoglobin was at 3 (normal is 11-13) I was turning white and blue and freezing cold. They made 3 incisions in my abdomin and 2 dr's operated to remove all the blood and my left falopian tube also casue it was so damaged from the rupture. I had about 6 units of blood transfusion. It was a very close call. I woke up in ICU and was on a ventalater and hooked up to 6 IV things and heavily medicated. I was released 8/26 and am now on pelvic/bedrest for 2 weeks. The dr said that my right falopian tube is fine and I can still have more children (thank God) but I will have higher risk of this happening again and it lowers my fertility 15-20%. I am doing better every day, just sore and have not dealt with the emotional side of almost loosing my life and how scary the whole situation was. So I never actually miscarried and though there is no way to know for sure, my baby was most likely still growing up until the rupture which means I would have been 12 weeks along. It's like loosing my baby twice and I go to the dr in 2 weeks so I don't know how long I'll have to wait before ttc again.

I miscarried last year at about 8 wks. About 8 weeks later I had my lvls tested. They were still very high. My OB called me in, and did an ultrasound and found out that I was pregnant again. A new pregnancy (I never had my cycle in between). I just gave birth to a beautiful little girl.

I would definately talk to you dr. Maybe see if they are willing to an ultrasound.

Dear S.,

I know exactly how you feel, I lost a lot of children to miscarriage - it is a very difficult time for us - our minds and bodies want us to have children and it is hard to invest more time in waiting.

I didn't know all of that stuff when I had my bout with this problem. Try to calm yourself. Be as much like your name implies as you can. The more time you give now, the better chance you have of giving live birth later on. I don't know how much later on, but in a few months, I guess.

You may need to ask the doctor if you need to have a D and C. I do not know the proper name, something like Dilitation and Curratage - cleaning out of your uterus. I had a couple it is not bad, just a bit of cramping the next day. Then you know for sure that no material is left in there. Maybe that is highly unscientific, but I do know that Moms think about that, I did.

Good Luck with this hard time, and take very very good care of yourself and your feelings. C. N.

HI Serena,
Sorry to hear about your loss. I've been there. TWICE! My levels went back to normal at about 6 to 7 weeks after. It is a hard long process. Iknow. I would call your Dr. and see what he/she might say? BUt the other part was that I did nothave a normal two periods for almost 6 months after. I either skiped, or was early? It was weird and hard at the same time. The Dr. just told me that every body is different, and will adjust when it is ready. However, 2 years later, I was pregnant. I had already had two sons. BUt now I have 3!

That much bleeding is normal. Is it possible you are pregnant again? Have they done an ultra sound? I got pregnant right away after my miscarriage...didn't even have a normal period between. I hope they figure it out! Keep us posted.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a miscarriage on August 9, 2006, and my HCG levels didn't go back to normal for 4 months. I had to keep doing blood tests every 2 weeks until December, and then they were finally normal.

Every woman is different. My doctor expected my levels to go down after a few weeks, but obviously it was much longer than that.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

S.,
If you have questions, definetly talk to your doc. to find out what his expections are with your case.
I have had experience with hcg levels after a molar pregnancy. As long as your levels are going down and dont start going up,
you are okay.
I see nothing wrong with calling the office a day or so after each blood test to find out what your hcg # is and track it yourself. Any questions, feel free to email. Heidi

I've had one m/c, but it was many yrs ago. The m/c was very early like at 4 or 5 weeks pregnant. I got pregnant 1 1/2 mo later. I do know a lady who has had a lot of problems, though. She has had several miscarriages at 4 months pregnant. Her Dr. told her to wait about 6 months. Since the m/c's were so late it can take awhile for all the hormones to leave the body. Also for to heal emotionally. So I do know it depends on how far along in the pregnancy for the hormone levels to go down. Also everyone is different.
I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember things will get better.
K.

Hi S.,

I would go see my OB doctor ASAP. This happened to a friend of mine and it turns out that she was pregnant with twins and she miscarried one baby. She ended up carrying the other to full term and she is now 7 years old. I would ask for a sonogram to see if you are still pregnant.

I am not sure if you have insurance and who your doctor is, or how comfortable you are with your doctor, but I and a friend go to a doctor with whom we are very pleased with. He deals with high risk pregnancies. My friend had two m/c before going to him and now has 3 beautiful children. I on the other hand had no complications during my pregnancy, but my end-of-the-term were both quick and early. Maybe you can get a second opinion. If interested in name of dr. just let me know
