Has Anyone Used or Is Using YAZ for Bc?

I just started takin YAZ not really for birth control, but my periods have been so out of wack since my daughter was born 2/07. So I was given this to help get myself back into a "normal" cycle. My period would not show for 2-3 months then be continous for the next month. Can anyone tell me the pros or cons that they have had with this pill? My husband had a vascatomy so the birth control part of it is not a big deal to me. This is my first time on a pill before I did the Depo shot(in 2002 for 6 months), then went to the patch(in 2004 for 1 year) which gave me major migraines. Any of your experiences with this would be great. Did you gain weight? What side affects did you get? Thank you all in advance. I am also not looking to get lectures on being on BC. I am only on it for medical reasons.

What can I do next?

I have been on Yaz for the last 2 years. i LOVE it also. But I think, from what i'm told, is that Yaz is best for certain people. as another poster mentioned, it's targeted for PMDD. I am on it because i have PCOS, which caused my hormones to be out of wack. So I do well on it because it is the same amount of hormones every day (unllike other pills that change every week) and you only have 4 sugar pills which will give shorter and lighter periods.

I don't agree with the statement made that there is no need to be on a pill for medical reasons. the NUMBER ONE treatment for PCOS is the birth control pill.

When I started Yaz, i did have a period followed by lots of break-thru bleeding which was almost like a period for a month straight. but since then, they have been only about 4 days long, and I only use a tampon for one or 2 of those days, a pantyliner the other.

I took Yaz for the same reason a few years back. My doctor raved about it. I HATED it. I had been on birth control many times before, usually Micronor which is progesterone, not estrogen. No problems. Yaz made me completely crazy! I was moody, crying at anything and everything and it did not regulate my cycle at all. I bled for weeks at a time, then would have a week break and bleed again. My doc told me to hang in there and give it a chance but after 6 months I gave up! My advice? Get off of hormones for a few months, and see what happens. If you are still having issues, ask your doc for a different pill. I am hormone free and for whatever reason everything just eventually worked itself out. Good luck to you! Rely on your doc!

I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY second Donna S.
You do not "need" the pill for "medical reasons" IF your reason is just to get your cycle back to regular. From what I can tell you're a human of breeding age, which means that your cycle WILL return to balance, even without this intervention. It's probably better to just give it the time it needs and not force it, or else when you want to get off the pill you will be out of whack AGAIN trying to get back to natural rhythm from forced regulation.

About YAZ, here's a side effect you and your husband will absolutely hate: GREATLY diminished sexual response... as in he could keep at it with pleasuring you for two HOURS and you still won't come (true story).

I am on YAZ and I LOVE it! I was put on it after the birth of my 2nd child (4/08) and for me, it is the miracle BC. I have PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder-which is like PMS times 10,000). I would get really angry, emotional...yell, scream, cry...if anyone so much looked at me. I also had terrible cramps, bloating, migraines...that was when I was off of BC and when I was on other pills.
I still deal with the migraines as part of my cycle-but that has been that way since I was 14. I now know when it's coming, so I can take migraine meds to prevent really bad episodes. My moods are SO much better. I've been on several different types of BCP and this is my favorite by far. I really wanted to do the Mirena but my insurance won't cover it and we can't afford to pay for it out of pocket right now. But this is a great substitute for me.

I was prescribed YAZ after I finished breastfeeding my little girl. I took the micronor during the breastfeeding. I had no problems with micronor, but had a horrible time with YAZ. I gained some weight, was very moody and for the first two weeks was nauseated constantly. I am a fan of the "ring". I used it prior to the birth of our daughter and loved it. We are trying to add to our family at this time so I'm not on any BC, but if I had to choose, I would choose the "ring".

My advice is to be careful when taking any type of birth control. I was taking Yaz last year and had hurt my back. Because of that I was taking pain relief medication and ended up with a blood clot. Now at 32 I can never take any kind of birth control again and am just being taken off blood thinner medication after being on it for 9 months. I liked yaz when I was on it but I was using it because of my mood swings from my cycle and the birth control that I had been taking was wreaking havoc with my cycle, mood, and just about everything.

Hi A.,

Stop messing around with Mother Nature.

You took the Depo shot and the patch. Let your cycle come back to normal. It will take time, but it will return without taking anything.

Good luck. D.

I've used Yaz (prior to getting pregnant currently) for BC. I liked it, had no issues and I was pretty much a regular period person, had no other issues like PMDD, or moderate/severe acne. It was just a switch for me in trying to find something with a little less estrogen than what I was currently using. No complaints.

I don't take Yaz but I work in a Doctor's office that prescribes it.
We use it to help regulate periods and mood changes associated with the period. It tends not to make you gain weight. Eventually your period should be shorter and lighter too.
