Has Anyone Taken a 2 Year Old to Disney World?

I'm planning a trip to Disney World and it's a family gathering. I'd love to include my 2 year old son, but am afraid that he will be overwhelmed and get frustrated with the experience. On the other hand I know that he will find so much of it to be great fun. I'd really appreciate any advice, personal experiences and tips that you might have. Thanks so much!

Hi, I've taken my (very active) 4 year old many times to Disneyland and Disney World starting at 1 1/2 years. Once (very) pregnant with my second.

He had a great time. I suggest taking it slow when walking around the park and plan on spending most of the time in the kiddie section of the park (where the Dumbo ride is located). Sorry I can't remember the name of the kiddie section.

I hope this helps,

Jo

I have an 11 month old who just got back from a vacation in the Florida Keys with us. Also, when he was 6 months old he went on a ski trip to Colorado with us. I loved having him with us as he is very active and loves to be around people. As long as you have someone available, family member or friend, who can assist with all the items you will have to carry I would bring your child. Another option would be to check Disney World and see if there is a "day camp" or child care available for times when you need "me" time. We had a great time on both occasions and took lots of wonderful pictures. Hope this helps.

When my daughter was 3, we had planned a trip to Disneyland...as awful as it sounds, we didn't take her. Our reasoning was this...
She's 3, she's going to tire out so easily, and the biggest reason...she won't be able to remember the trip at all.
We took her when she turned 6 and she can give all the details of the trip. My advice, I would leave him home and enjoy your trip...

Some personal insight for you. I worked for Disney Vacations for several years and as a Mom. I have a 2 1/2 yr old and 1 yr old. We have not taken them since they tire so easily.
Disney World is much larger than Disneyland. A 2 yr old can go part of the day but would need a nap by early afternoon.
If they will fall asleep in a stroller thats great, and some do but if they don't you might want to plan a nap time at the hotel. Some families will take time out at the hotel for some afternoon swimming, while your son is taking a nap. And then so back to the park for the late afternoon evening. It will be cooler and you can go out for dinner everyone refreshed and ready for the evening. IN the Summer the parks don't close till later anyways, and you can enjoy the fireworks and parade too. We thought about going so we could get the kids in for free since they be under 3 but they aren't going to remember it. And many rides are too big for them so we decided to wait a few years when it will be forth the expense.

I hope this helps. Another thing if you go and take him
I would reccommend a Character Meal. YOu eat at the restaurant and the Disney characters walk around to each table signing authographs and take pictues with kids or adults. NO long lines.

If it is a family gathering, and your family is willing to help out, I would definately take him. He will have so much fun. My son, who is 2 now loves theme parks. When I lived in Orlando, and stayed at a WDW resort I just had my sisters come and play w/my son. Good luck and have fun!

We live in California right now but will be moving to Frisco, TX. We live 20 minutes away from Disney and we go all the time. I would try not to plan to much in a day and definately try and get the 2 or 3 day pass so you don't have to feel pressured to do it all in one day. You 2 year old will love it.

Hi E.,
I took my daughter to Disney World when she was 18 months. We got a 3 or 4 day ticket. She had fun but it was very h*** o* her because we were so busy everyday trying to fit everything in. It was the middle of summer and the heat just added to the whinning and crying. She does not even remember it but we went again when she was 6 and she loved it...she is now 10 and still remembers the fun we had. Hope that helps.
