Has Anyone Purchased from Melaleuca?

Hello Moms,

Have any of you purchased products from Melaleuca? I have a rep who is trying to get me to make a purchase. I am thinking about purchasing household items (cleaners, disinfectants), but this rep is not very clear with me as far as the ordering process. I told her I am not interested in becoming a rep for this company, but I feel she is not completely being upfront with me about ordering. When we talk, she make references about the benefits of being a representative for the company and I'm just not interested and made it clear to her. She want us to meet to complete paperwork and I'm just not sure if I should order from her because I do not want to get myself into a binding or complicated situation. She also mentioned a membership fee which is all new to me because she has been talking to me for a week and never said anything about member fees, which is why I'm confused.

My questions are:

1. How is the ordering process done with Melaleuca?

2. Does making a purchase from this company make you a representative and not just a customer?

3. If you ordered household items from this company are they any good? Do they work?

4. Do you have to pay a membership fee to place an order?

Your advise and answers are greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Hi T.,
I've once talked to a rep from them as well. I never got to ordering stuff as we moved out of the US. I do remember that if you order you have to order each month for at least 50$.
Dont get into something you don't feel comfortable about. Let her sent you the paperwork op front so you can read the small letters.

Just as everyone has said, the products are great. I couldn't keep spending $50-75 per month which is required to stay a rep. The discount is great, but it is hard to fulfill since stuff lasts so long.

When I went to cancel, they suggested teaming up with someone and sharing the orders. I didn't have friends close by to do that with, and just couldn't afford a committment. So, my friend in CA is still with them and orders every month (the vitamins alone make up half of the monthly points I think) and when I need to, I place a big order through her. She is able to use my CC and send it directly to my house in IL. She makes some money off of my extra order and I am thankful that I don't have to worry about it every month. I spent $200 the last time using her discount and am finally running out of some of the stuff about a year later.

Being a customer only you spend an additional 40% per product. With that cost, it is cheaper to get the eco products from the store. The lipstick is FABULOUS though. My husband wouldn't kiss me before with lipstick on, but he will with theirs.

Hi T.,
This is very touchy, many times you will have a disgruntled "employee" who didn't make money fast enough or didn't work their business or use the products and they spread their misfortune and others do the same even though they never even tried a Melaleuca product, all hearsay. And we all know there are people who dislike PG, or J&J products, we can't please everyone with one product, but make your own educated decision by trying it, don't live your life based on what someone else tells you, "You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take"!

For those of us who use the products faithfully and earn a nice income, Melaleuca is a fantastic company with incredible products. It is the only home biz company that was inducted into the INC 500, won numerous awards, and is in good standing with the BBB. They have been around since 1985 and are a solid strong company. We are all first and foremost customers who realize the huge benefits of being healthy and buying products that are safe and healthy for our families and the environment. Not everyone is a Marketing Exec with Melaleuca, but the ones who choose to build a lifetime business with them reap the benefits of health and money. I like my monthly checks and more importantly LOVE that my family is healthy and our medical bills have been greatly reduced!

As far as your concerns, I will try to answer as best and as honestly as I can, I gain nothing by not telling you as it is. If you would like to talk further call me at ###-###-####.

1. First of all NOBODY should be trying to force anyone into doing a business. I have brought many people into the company as customers, if they choose to work the business end of it; I will work side by side with them. We are first and foremost customers who enjoy the low cost of safe natural products, the many discounts we get at stores like Sears, Kmart, Target, Kohl’s, American Eagle as well as discounts for phone services (local, wireless, long distance), car and mortgage buying services, online shopping, and so much more.

2. Melaleuca is similar to a buyers club like Sam's or Costco. The difference is we don't buy in bulk and only purchase what our family needs. Both Sam's and Costco charge about $40 a year. Melaleuca charges $29 the first year (in August it is only $14.50) and $12 each year after that. Just like Sam's and Costco, you do pay a membership fee to take advantage of their store discounts and yes you will pay a yearly fee to shop at Melaleuca.

3. Making a purchase DOES NOT make you a Marketing Exec with Melaleuca. When we pay the initial fee of $29 (this month only $14.50) we ALL become customers and we ALL have the option of becoming Marketing Execs with Melaleuca. I know people who were customers with Melaleuca and then 10 years down the road decided to become Marketing Execs. Then there are others like myself who became a customer and a Marketing Exec when I came into the company.

4. The products are phenomenal! I had a cleaning business and got nothing but rave reviews about the fresh clean aroma of our cleaning products. They work better and ounce for ounce cost less.
I bought a foreclosed home, it had been sitting for about 7 months, and the bathroom faucets were loaded with so much junk I thought they would have to be replaced. I used the Tub N Tile, which is our bathroom cleaner and although it took about 30 minutes or so of scrubbing, the faucets came spotless and I saved money by not having to replace them.
I have or used to suffer greatly from asthma and had a tough time cleaning, constantly gasping for breaths when I used store bought cleaning products. Now I can close a bathroom door and clean with no breathing problems. The Melaleuca Oil penetrates deep into the pores and leaves no dangerous toxins behind which children and you could accidently ingest.
Toxic chemicals enter your body three ways:
1) Eating or drinking the chemical residue left on dishes from dishwashing soap.
2) Breathing in chemicals from cleaning products every time we clean.
3) Absorbing it through the skin from laundry detergents and family bath products that don't get entirely rinsed out or off and then reactivate when they get wet.

5. The ordering process is very easy. When you pay the $29, it takes you through a process of setting up your Melaleuca account online. You will then have a username and password to access your account anytime. You may place an order online, I like this as I can make a shopping list as my family tells me they need things and it stays in my cart till I place my order. Or you can call an 800 number and place your order by phone. The people who take the orders are very knowledgeable about the Melaleuca products and can assist you with any questions you may have. I stay in touch with my customers and help them place orders if they need help. The products are then delivered to your door via UPS.
We also have an insurance pack that we set up called a back-up order. This is awesome, I love this option! After we try the products and we all have products we use each and every month, vitamins, tooth paste, shampoo, laundry aids, cosmetics, cleaning products, etc. we set up an order of those things. If for some reason something happens and we don't get to place our order for the month, this insures that we get the products we need monthly. I do have to say though in 5 years I have never gotten a back up order.

6. We do not spend extra money every month by ordering from Melaleuca. I have simple made a decision to "SWITCH" stores. I don't buy the toxic products from the department stores or the grocery stores. I still need the products but instead take my money to Melaleuca and buy healthy safe natural products. And they pay me to do so!
In addition to my monthly check, when I order online each month, Melaleuca gives me back 10% and puts it into an account called "Loyalty Shopping Dollars" I can spend these dollars on things I like, maybe candles, cosmetics, or specials at Melaleuca.
As far as cost, do the comparison. One bottle of our kitchen cleaner, “Tough and Tender” costs $5.24, however it makes 4-24oz bottles so brings the cost to $1.31 a bottle as compared to Clorox Anywhere 22 ounces at $4.74 on sale. The savings are awesome!

Hope this helps,
M.

I can agree with all the responses about the products. I have been using them for about 5 years. I don't press them on anyone, but my co-workers who have tried them have me order products that they like, so it helps to bring down the amount that I have to buy myself. There is a minimum monthly order that is required. The products are good. The acne products work like magic for my teenagers. Try to find someone who will let you order stuff and include it with their order, or plan on about $50. a month to have your own account.

Good Morning T.,
I am actually a Melaleuca member, and I am an independent rep for them as well. They are a great company to do business with and work for if you are interested, but here are the answers to your questions:
1. You can place your order online or by phone (I normally help my customers place their orders for the first few months, until they are comforatble).
2. No. You can choose to just be a customer, but some people like to get paid for those who they refer, and if you are a customer and you do just refer (not work hard at the business) they send you 7% commission of your referrels orders.
3. I was a customer first, because I needed to believe in the products before I was willing to promote, and I called it a detoxification of my home when I went with Melaleuca products. I educated myself on the harmful products I had been using and looked at my four year old and made the switch. I don't have as many headaches when I clean and YES the products are effective.
4. You can think of it like a Costco or Sam's Membership fee, but with added perks. There is a one time enrollment fee of $29.99, and with that you recieve a 40% discount, great information from Melaleuca, $20 a month in Loyalty Shopping Dollars, and you feel good about putting their products in your home for your family and friends to use. Plus you get a 15% discount with online retailers such as Target.com, Overstock.com, Kohls, and a lot more under the Melaleuca Marketplace.
If you need more information please let me know. Have a great day!
Thanks
J. K.

My Mom ordered from them, and it was a nightmare. The girl she ordered from didn't understand the process either. They kept charging $75 a month to her credit card (the amount of her initial order), and sending her a box full of assorted things that she had said she was interested in. When she would attempt to cancel, they would give her the run-around (we need it in writing, you sent it to the wrong person, you didn't say the right thing, blah blah blah). She eventually had to notify her credit card and have our lawyer send a letter for the automatic shipping to stop. It took 6 months ($450 of unwanted orders!) for this to stop. No one from the company was very helpful.

It was a total shame, because the products were nice.

Ok, so I did buy the Melaleuca products few years ago and they are nice but not excellent.

The problem with this company is that as a rep, they get paid based on what the people they sign up buy. So, in oder for you to buy, you need to pay a membership fee and then you are required (this is not optional) to make a purchase on a monthly basis. I you don't do it they will charge your credit card and send you a package with assorted stuff you might not even need.

It is a hassle to cancel and they will try their best not to let you do it. You need to make a letter, fax it during their business hours and during their cancelling window timeframes.

As I said, the products are not bad, but not so great to be worth the hassle and the monthly commitment to buy stuff.

If I was you, I would start running the opposite way from this so called rep.

Good luck

Completely agree with Amanada. I signed up to order with Melaleuca, next time I know I was getting charged monthly for items that I didn't order and they signed me up to be a rep which I didn't want either. They send you items every month-most things I didn't use. I called customer service to cancel and stop them charging my credit card. She was rude and kept asking me why I wasn't happy. I finally had to fax a letter to them canceling my membership since they couldn't do it over the phone. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. If you are a rep, they don't help you find leads you are on your own. Don't worth the time or money to deal with it.

Hi T.,

I signed up to sell Melaleuca about 4 years ago. It hasn't worked well for me on the business side, however, the products are good. I use the Tough & Tender, Tub & Tile, room freshners, Kid bath wash, Renew, bar soap, etc. The only thing I don't like is that if you become a preferred customer, your obligation is to buy products monthly to total 35 points. You pay no less than $60 w/ these orders. So I get people to order w/ me so I don't have to foot the whole $60 every month. Let me know how it works for you, should you decide to sign up.

hi, my name is M.. I have been with melaleuca for over 2 years now. The products are great, if you think of health affects from all the chemical we use at home. They work just like the others cheap products. I have a better feeling, using melaleuca with 3 little kids. I do have some products, that I really like and recommend.

- aMelaPower® Laundry Detergent 96 oz. Pantry
- Sol-U-Guard Botanical® Disinfectant Pantry 2-pack
- Sol-U-Mel® 3 in 1 Cleaner
- Buy 2 Boxes of Simply Fit™ Crackers & Save $1
- FiberWise® Breakfast Bars - Apple Cinnamon
- MelaMagic® Heavy Duty Cleaner
-Lemon Brite® Dishwashing Liquid
-Diamond Brite® Gel Automatic Dishwasher Detergent
-Koala Pals™Training Tooth Gel

There is more, but you want cleaners, so I just picked from Home section.
The trick is, that yes there is one time membership fee/you can always try and deal with them how much/.
You have to order every month in order to stay member. At lease first 3 months. Every month they have something special going on for new customers. I dont know what it is this month, but the lady who is asking you to order should know.
You can read more on melaleuca.com. Look up preferred customer benefits.
There is too much. Like, if you order before 16th day of the month you get points to spend later on their products/when you rich $20 in the points/.
I know it is not clear to you, just keep asking that representative.
And no, you dont become representative after order. I think she is giving you business pack, witch is to study to become representative.
I would go for it. But if the lady, who is pushing you dont answer all your questions, just go on melaleuca.com. If you get lost, look up contact us info.
Wishing you good day and great experience.
Point for representative is, they make money to get new customers who will order at least for 3 monthts.
Definitely ask about special this month for becoming new customer.

my dad sold it when i was a kid. you can buy it retail, for a little more money. tell the person you want to buy some once to try it and don't want to join OR get monthly reorders. They can purchase the items and sell them to you and they still make their money. Their goal is to get you to sign up so you are a permanent customer, but you don't have to let them sucker you in. the cleaning products are excellent and the Prespot plus stain remover works on EVERTYTHING from coffee to red wine. hope that helps.

Hi T.,

My husband's friend was a Melaleuca rep and he ended up making a purchase. I don't know how the ordering went, b/c I wasn't a part of it, but we ended up being charged $60-75/month for over a year. When he called to "get out of it" they told him that he could not get a refund and would have to order products that added up to the amount that they were expecting from him. SO, watch out, b/c I do think it's a pyramid thing where they want you to join and sell as well. I do think that there is a membership fee that probably is applied toward your purchases (perhaps why we couldn't get a refund).

On the positive side, the products are pretty good. We like the cleansers, particularly the disinfectant spray. We like the laundry products, particularly the pre-wash spot spray (really good). One of their shampoos/conditioners products is really good (not the green, herbal). We also have used the melaleuca "oil" on cuts and bruises, etc. I guess it works (!) -- we like the idea of a natural ointment, so I'm not sure whether it works or we want it to work! Most of the products have a minty smell -- the melaleuca. We have never done research on the actual benefits of melaleuca oil.

But, because I wasn't involved in the purchasing, I have no idea if the products are more expensive than natural products you could buy at Target!

I hope this helps a little!

Hi, T.,

beware, beware!!!! I have members of my church who are involved with melaleuca. There is a fee, they do expect you to join. An the only way the rep makes money is by how many people they get to sign up. As for the products, there not all that. You could go to a all natural food store and do better. An they often want you to pay by check or credit card where they automatically take out your money without notifying you. It's also where you agree to purchase products for 90 days. Whether you want the products or not. So, please be careful! I know a lot of people who have been badly burned by meleleuca.

Hope this helps!!

Hi T.,

I have been with Melaleuca for the past six months and couldn't be happier. I love the products.

1- You can call, fax or order online every month
2- you can be either a rep or a customer. I'm a customer
3- Products are great & eco-friendly. They work really well.
4- yes you have to pay a one time fee. I paid 14$ instead of the regular 30$.

If you wish I can give you my rep's name, the woman that introduced me to Melaleuca. She is absolutely great & she would be more than willing to give you extra info on the products and company. She is not pushy whatsoever.

I signed up several years ago - maybe 10 - through a friend who was a rep and who did very well financially through signing up other marketing associates. I was never in it for money, but for more healthy products. About 4 years ago, after I had my first child, I cancelled my membership because the $50 per month minimum I had to spend seemed way too extravagant. I was never sorry that I cancelled, plus, things are so different now, with so many "green" cleaning products on the market. In my opinion, it negates the need for Melaleuca products altogether, since there are so many non-toxic cleaning/disinfection options now. If I were you I would just stick to buying these items at your local store where can take advantage of sales, shoppers' discounts and coupons. It would be much less expensive and time consuming down the line.

Hi T.!
I am with you that I don't want to be a melaleuka rep....but I have used the cleaning products and absolutely love them! They have a system where you have to sign up to purchase something like $42. of products per month, and if you don't get around to ordering, there is an 'auto ship' package that will go out....which you choose upon signing up.
Melaleuka has tons of other products, but they don't appeal to me as much as the household cleaners...too much fragrence for my taste. I can't use $42. worth of soaps per month! so I go without, or get lucky and find a friend who will let me order through their account. Some day I could see joining forces with other friends or moms and sharing one account. The products actually clean really well...I have found many health food store cleaners to be wimpy. I am crazy for several of them in fact. Perhaps your friend would let you order a few things to 'try'. I hope this helps!

Hi T.,

1.
The ordering process couldn't be simpler. The Web or 800#

2. You have to be a member to shop from Melaleuca. Everybody is a customer and has the power to refer others. There are no representatives, because we are not sales reps.

3. I have ordered from this company for more than four years, adn the products are fantastic.

4. Yes there is a membership fee, which is very reasonable, especially compared to all the warehouse clubs.

Hope This Helps,

By the way this is not a cedll-phone contract type of thing. You can cancel as simply as you sign up. Do yourself a fvaor, you will be glad you did.
