Has Anyone Ever Had Multiple Home Pregnancy Tests Be Wrong?

Ladies-
Just wondering if anyone has received several false results on pregnancy tests only to find out later that they were in fact pregnant. I don't think I'm pregnant (we weren't trying!) but I am about 15 days late, have crazy acne all of a sudden (which hasn't happened since my first pregnancy), feel wider all of a sudden, and have gained 3 lbs even though I have been diligently trying to lose weight. Another explanation is a thyroid problem which is very likely, so I'm going to get it checked out as soon as I can get someone to watch my kids... Women always say "oh, I know this woman who took loads of pregnancy tests that were all negative only to find out later that she was pregnant!"---- so I'm just wondering if those women are real ;0
thx!

Ps. I've taken 4 negative tests.... I have also had my period the same day every month since my son (now 10 months) was 3 months old, even though I was breastfeeding up until 7 months. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I just recently skipped my period for 4 months. Yes, I took numerous pregnancy tests and the doctor's orders, but all negative. My husband had a vasectomy last year, so I knew I wasn't pregnant. I was bloated, tired, and just generally felt like I was about to start. I went to my gyn who ran all kinds of tests. Nothing abnormal. Finally she gave me medication to jump start my period. Since then I have been like clockwork. Sometimes, I think we just get a little off. I had a baby, and was moving. Stress can really do a number on you sometimes.

How old are you? I only ask because I used to be like clockwork, than all of a sudden I missed 2 months, than I skipped one month, and than 2 again. I was not sure what was going on, than I learned that because I am in my 30s this is normal. Often woman who are over 30 start to be less regular as their fertility decreases. I am not sure if that is you, but it is something to keep in mind. Those first months when I was late I freaked, I also took several preg. tests even though my SO had had a vasectomy! Turns out it was all just a normal part of aging.

I have been a few days late before and maybe skipped a period once but I have never had a false test. My hubby's cousin was on the pill, thought she was pregnant but her husband thought she was wrong. She did at least two home tests that said "negative". After the second one, she went to the doctor and their test said "negative". The following month she went back and they said "negative"...she insisted on a blood test. It said "positive" so the doctor said "you can't be more than a month along since you weren't pregnant when you cam in last month. They did an ultrasound and found that she was 13 weeks along (and it was correct). I don't know if she skipped her period initially or not since she was on the pill she may have had a period but I am just not sure but I do know the tests at home and the doctor's office were both wrong.

No...I have never had a false negative on a test and if you're 15 days late I think it'd show up. Check with the doctor if you're worried though. I went to the doctor for a blood test 11 months after my husband had a vasectomy, because I was two weeks late with a negative home test. I got the blood drawn, went back to work, and my cycle started. I didn't need to wait for the call :).

Since your doctor is going to need to draw blood to test your thyroid levels you might as well let him do the blood test to determine if you are pregnant. Urine test do sometimes give both false positives and false negatives but I've never heard of a blood test giving the wrong result! I confirmed both my pregnancies with blood tests despite the "home kit" results! Either way, I wish you all the best! :)

False negative tests are common very early in the pregnancy. I had 3 before I got the + sign. Give it a few more days and check again.

False negatives are pretty common (false positves are very very rare... and usually mean bad juju).

There has to be enough of the chemical for the test to read. Which is why tests often say to wait until morning... because you body keeps pulling water and reusing it / your urine is more concentrated. Lab tests (for many things) will often come back "dilute"... meaning there wasn't enough to test for (plenty of VOLUME, just not concentrated enough). But because of how labs work, pregnancy tests just get marked as 'negative' (they essentially just insert a strip that changes color if you're pregnant).

Based on "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" alone I'd see my OB if I thought the tests might be faulty.
