Hard Plastic Light up Figurines

Mamas & Papas-

I might be dating myself by asking this question. Does anyone remember those hard plastic outdoor light up figurines? They were about 3-4' tall and pretty common in the late 70s early eighties before the inflatable style came out.

DS's floor lamp gave out, and I thought that one of those outdoor figurines would have been a cool substitute, but it seems they are no longer available. Any other thoughts for something cool/ fun (but either attractive or kitschy).

Considered getting one of those white porcelain statutes which houses a 25 watt candelabra bulb and gives off a soft glow, but porcelain and a boy just seem like a bad combination.

Thanks,
F. B.

Those are totally "in" now - people bid on vintage ones on ebay etc. They have made a comeback and are considered super cool. :) Good luck finding one!

If you find one that you like, I would make sure it's LED or rewire to LED rather than incandescent, to prevent a fire hazard.

Cute idea! :)

Ikea has the best, most interesting lamps that are priced really nicely. Maybe try there?
You're thinking of what is called "Blow Molds". Those plastic figures you used to put on your lawn. They have become popular again in decorating for the Holidays so I'm betting the prices for vintage ones has gone up. I haven't really seen new ones for sale.

My husband just bought one this year. Santa in a sleigh with a reindeer. He won't tell me where he got it. I think he's afraid I would return the tacky thing! It would be too big for a kid's room. It also might not be safe for indoors. Outside lights burn hotter than indoor lights.

I agree that IKEA has the best kids' lights.

If you are just looking for a night light, we love lava lamps for that job. My kiddos each have one. We got them at spencers.
