Got Any Suggestions?

We are expecting baby number three and we found out what we are having. We haven't told the family because I would like to do it in a fun way. Does anyone have any neat suggestions?
For number two, I sent to the grandparents paper dolls from our first child. The dolls were in pink and blue in the order of their grandchildren ending with a blue boy (because we found out at that time we were having a boy for our second). They all loved the surprise and it stumped them a little, too. Really fun.

What can I do next?

How about a boquet of flowers, with a conspicuous number of blue and pink among all white or all yellow, etc.

Sorry but I disagree w/ the previous poster...grandparents DO care....it's their grandkid!!!

For #2 we had DD1 dress in a t-shirt that said "guess what?" on the front and "I'm gonna be a big sister!" on the back. We had her wear it at a family picnic and let people notice. Totally fun and everyone was ecstatic! You could do something similar to announce gender.

For #3 we got picture frames w/ 3 slots and put pics of DD1 and DD2 in 2 slots and wrote "baby #3 due 2/1/08" in the third. You could do something like that w/ "baby boy/girl" due whatever date.

Good luck, even w/ #3 the excitement w/ the grandparents was still very much there!

Have your children get in on the fun! Let them color a picture of the new baby!!! or have them dress in all PINK or all blue to show what you are going to have.
Better yet have them make or design their big sister big brother t-shirts!!!

At the next family gathering or whatnot or if they come over for dinner or a barbeque go nuts with plates, napkins, even dye some of the food or whatever pink or blue. Make it obvious something is different because everything is not the normal colors. See how long it takes them to figure out why everything is one color.

Send grandparents flowers in the color appropriate for the gender of the new little one - and wait for them to call you to see what's up! Or include a card with a rhyme you put together to spill the news.

This isn't nearly as creative as what you did for your second...
We did two things: we made a photo book of our older son's 1st year "highlights" and the last page showed him in a "big brother" t-shirt. We gave this to my husbands parents and I brought it to work and showed it to friends in order to tell them. A lot of people didn't get it right away, I would have to say "that last one is my favorite, I love the shirt in that one." For my parents, we put the big brother t-shirt on him when they came over one day. One of them got it right away, the other didn't even notice! One of friends did the t-shirt thing at her son's 1st birthday party. But that only works if you are going to see them. A co-worker did a family photo where they all had their "title" on their shirt (oldest sister, middle sister, dad) and Mom's shirt had "mom" with an arrow point up and "baby sister" with an arrow pointing to her stomach.
I just loved the reactions when people figured it out, no matter how you do it!

My husband and I knew we were having twins, so before we were able to find out if they were boys or girls, we picked out 2 girl names and 2 boy names. You can personalize M&Ms and pick the colors, so we ordered 2 sets of blue M&Ms with the first and middle names we picked for the boys and 2 sets of pink with the first and middle names of the girls. The day we found out that we were having twin girls, we put the M&Ms in little bags and delivered them to all of our family and friends. This way, they found out the names of the babies and that we were having GIRLS! Everyone seemed to love it and they all still have their M&Ms. I kept some for the girls too so they can have them as keepsakes. Just a quick note-it can take a bit for the M&Ms to be delivered to you (hence the reason we ordered 4 different ones). Good luck and Congratulations!!!

Sorry, but I don't think they care. Not like you think and hope they do. It's your kid. Just tell them and get over yourselves already!

If everyone is in the area have a cookout/picnic/BBQ and have the invite a picture of you saying 'can you guess what we are having?' Then say come join us for fun and a guessing game at this time, date, place.

Obviously if not everyone can make it call them up after the party (or I am sure many of the relatives will let each other know ASAP) and let them in on the surprise.

If that is more then you want to do.. cooking for tons of people. Maybe send out a picture of yourself saying 'can you guess what we are having? Watch the mail for the answer!' And then a week later send out a scrambled word sentence (or another word type game) that they have to rearrange the letters that spell out 'We are having a boy/girl!' (which everyone it is).

The capital letter starts the sentence. Have fun figuring it out!

_ _ (space) _ _ _ (space) _ _ _ _ _ _ (space) _ (space) _ _ _!

Could put the answer on the back of the paper or upside down on the paper in smaller letters. Or not answer at all... We are having a boy!

J.,
When I had baby three I wrote a letter using clip art and large type. You could use pink or blue for the type and then I sent bibs (something practical for them to use with baby). I did this to announce my pregnancy but you could do it to announce the gender also. Good luck.

I was thinking really hard for an idea, but not to many came to mind except taking the sonagram picture and have it blown up at walgreens and have it made into a puzzle and maybe have a saying that includes the baby name or sex.
I wish you all the best. Let me know what you come up with!
I could use an idea when I am expecting.
Congrats,B.
