Good Prenatal Vitamin That Isn't the Size of a Horse Pill--recommendations?!

Hi mamas!

I have a really hard time swallowing pills as it is, but my prenatal vitamin is the worst! It is HUGE! I'm taking Nature Made gel caps. I'm to the point where if I even think about taking it, my mouth waters and I feel nauseous. I know, I know it is psychological, but I just can't get over it! If you mamas know of a great prenatal that is smaller, preferably microscopic, but if that's not possible, then just a normal pill size kind will do! ;0) Thanks mamas!

What can I do next?

i agree with the oligo! i take vitamins with oligo and it makes a HUGE difference. the pills are pretty "normal" sized too. I buy online, i dont know if you are comfortable with that. They do also have chewable childrens vitamins too (that are WAY more absorbable then the flintstones) so you may want to look into that too.

http://www.HealthySafeAndClean.com is where you want to go to ask questions. they are a non-profit training team, but they can help give you advice and answer questions.

I started taking VitaFusion PreNatal gummy vitamins. Got them at Target - $11 for about 45 days worth. They actually taste good. There's no iron in them though.

Maybe ask your OB about chewable vitamins? I googled it and it appears there are a few out there. Some are prescription only, though.

Wal-Mart has some you can get there that my OB says is safe to use and they are smaller than most you can get. Also ask you OB. Mine has new pills in that are coated and small like an ibuprofen.

I did throw up from the big pills. I told my OB and they told me to take two Flintstones vitamins. But you may want to ask yours, my sister told me her friend had a hard time with the pills too and her Dr had her take a vitamin that did not include the calcium (I think it was) and the pill was super small. Then she just had to make sure to drink/eat lots of dairy.

Hi J.! With my first pregnancy, I took a liquid, whole food vitamin. I wish I could remember the name! I also took folic acid in a drop form.
With my second pregnancy, all vitamins made me horribly sick and my OB told me that I didn't even need to take prenatals since I had such a healthy diet.

You could ask your doctor about alternatives!

NOONE but Becky listened to the fact that YOU CANNOT swallow a pill. I know how you feel. I cant either. My doc also told me flintstones chewables. Thats the way to go. I didnt take anything with all three kids. made me sick. and now they are healthy 14,12.6. so.

Throughout my pregnancy with my first child, I took Stuarts Prenatal (bought it at walmart). They really arent that big. I hate taking pills and always gagged on my calcium pills which were freaking huge.

Honestly, I don't know whether these would give you enough of what you need as a prenatal. I know my tabs give more, but I recommend these for people who can't swallow pills. I would suggest you print out the labels and ask your doc. Or email him the labels, but they are liquid:

GNC at your local mall has prenatal vitamins that are 2 pills per day - I took 1 at breakfast halfway through the meal and the other at lunch - so much better! Be sure to eat a bit of bread or cereal after swallowing the pill to prevent those lovely vitamin burps.
They are affordable too - I think 100 pills for $24...

I wasn't able to take prenatals because they made me sicker than I already was, so I took Flinestones vitamins. My doctor said that it was ok. It's great because they also came in Gummi!!

I know what you are going through. I have a hard time swallowing pills. I just can't seem to do it. When I was pregnant with my daughter my OB doctor said for me to take flintstones vitamins. I two 2 gummy ones every day. My daughter was born very healthy 6 pounds 12oz and 19 1/2 inches tall. She is now three and taller then most kids her age.

I took Stuarts Prenatal, which are over-the-counter, cost me $26.99 here in Texas. They were the only ones I could take due everything the doctor prescribed made me sick to my stomach. The only Omega-3 oil I took was some norweign fish oil from the whole foods store. I even took organic veggie and fruit pills. I wish you well in finding a vitamin that works for you.

My doctor recommended chewable prenatal vitamins. Great idea! I believe they are only available by prescription, but so very worth it.

My OB just told me to take regular flintstones chewables (and you can ask yours if you should supplement with iron and folic acid too). If you look on the container, you can see that with the exception of the iron and folic acid, there actually isn't that much difference between prenatals and regular multivitamins (well, except for the cost). Good luck!
