I am 12 weeks pregnant and I started having pain in my gallbladder last week. It started like someone was squeezing my side. Then the next few days it started like doing spasms kind of like a muscle spasm. Now its tightening like a contraction just where my gallbladder is. I had my 12 week doctor apointment yesterday and they took blood to run test to see if my gallbladder is going out or what ever they call it. So I have to wait a week to find out the results. The nurses said it was pretty common for women to have there gallbladder go bad during pregnancy. They told me that if it is bad that there is a small window of opertunity to have it removed during my second trimester. They said it is my discesion to do it then and if I choose not to then I have to wait until after the baby is born. So my question is has anyone ever heard of having the gallbladder removed during pregnancy or had any of these symptoms. Your response is greatly appreciated. Thank you! K.

I had terrible pain also in my side. They too ran a test to find out if it was the gall bladder. Turns out it was okay. Got diagnosed with Phrenic(sp) nerve pain. Nerve that runs along diaphragm gets irritated due to extra fluid and Gas trapped in your system. Very common during pregnancy. I did not experience the pain any longer once I delivered. I hope it is not your gall bladder and just something that goes away!!!

I just had mine removed 2 weeks ago. Mine started acting up all of sudden. I was not for sure that it was my gallbladder as it felt like someone was stabbing me in my chest. So I went to the doctor after 3 days of the pain. I don't like going to the doctor at all. My husband made me go. It's a good thing he did. They ran some test just to make sure it was not my heart. Then the ran some test and had the results that afternoon. Before the test even came back I had a songram done to make sure that was the problem. It was I had a stone in my gallbladder. I end up having it removed 2 weeks later. I had to have so many doctor appts before my insurance would pay for it to be removed. I end up staying the night cause I had some problems. I have felt so much better. Good luck. Congrats on the new baby.

My gall bladder began dying on me all of a sudden and out of nowhere. I was not pregnant, but I did experience similar pains. The difference is that my pains were extreme and hard to determine until they put me on morphine. Once on the morphine I could determine the exact placing and type of pain I had. The pain was so bad before the morphine, the I threw up multiple times, and had to have an ambulance pick me up as I did not feel I could safely drive myself to the ER...They removed the gall bladder on an emergency basis and I spent three days in the hospital recuperating...

I hope that your pain is manageable and that you are able to wait to have this done so that your pregnancy is safe. But I would not suggest putting it off too long as you do not want it done as an emergency surgery either.

Good Luck!!!
