Food Processor- Do You like Yours?

A few years ago my husband bought me a Kitchen-Aide Stand Mixer for Xmas, my first reaction was, "what do I need this for?!"...but I ended up loving it and use it ALL the time. My husband was wondering if I might want a food processor this year? I do cook a lot of homemade meals from scratch and would only want this if it's going to make my life easier. They're expensive so I don't want it if it's going to just sit there. Do you have one and do you use it often?

What can I do next?

I have had a couple of food processors. Hated the first one. It was an inexpensive small thing. Then, my husband bought me the Kitchen Aid one with all the accessories. It even has a citrus press. I LOVE it. I use it a lot. It has a whole box of accessories and three different bowl sizes. It is a work-horse. If you feel you want or need one, then this one is awesome. I found it online. This is what I have: http://www.zappos.com/kitchenaid-kfpm760-12-cup-ultra-wid...
But, just searching around, I found a lot of other KA food processors for much less if you don't think you need all the various attachments.

I used to have a full size processor but it took so much time getting it out, setting it up, cleaning it and putting it away that it just wasn't worth it. I do have a mini chopper which I love and use all the time for mincing garlic, onions, herbs, making salad dressing, etc. (I think it cost around $30.) And if I have larger things to grind/puree I just use my blender, or my kitchen aid mixer!
Merry Christmas :)

I have a kitchen aid food processor and I probably use it once a week. In addition to the normal blade it also has a shredding and slicing attachment which I use a lot. I make pie dough, cheese wafer dough, bread crumbs and falafel in it most often. I've also made pesto and other sauces, mixtures for ravioli filling and I made a lot of baby food in it when my son was younger. We shred potatoes in it for latkes, cheese, and cabbage for coleslaw. I've sliced cucumbers for pickles or potatoes for oven chips. I cooked a lot before I got it and I use it more than I even thought I would.

I have a Cuisinart and love it. I slice veggies, chop onions and nuts, grate cabbage and cheese. I have a pasta attachment and so mix dough and then make pasta. I moved and it got lost so I don't have one now. I keep wishing I could find it. I used it a lot.

I have a couple of cookbooks which helped in finding ways to use it. I suggest you check out food processor cook books from the library to give you ideas on how you would use a food processor.

Your stand mixer may have attachments that would do a similar job. I've seen this type of mixer advertised but I don't know what brand it is.

I have been cooking on my own for almost 20 years and now for my family, of course. I just got a food processor for Christmas three (maybe four?) years ago. At the time I was wanting it to do more pureeing of fruits & veggies to use in different recipes and had a hard time justifying the cost and an extra appliance. But I do find that I use it more often than I thought and use it to make other sauces/bread dough/grate cheese, etc. I got a Cuisinart b/c after doing a little research decided it was the best value for my needs. I have a family of four and got the 7 cup. My BIL cooks a lot and uses his ALL the time--way more than me. He got the 10 cup (they also have a family of four). For me storage was an issue and there have only been a handful of times that I wished I had a larger one. The only thing about mine is that it has a slicer attachment that I don't think works as well as I'd like. But I have a different appliance that serves my needs (Salad Shooter--old but I love it!). I think if you cook a lot you will probably find that you would use it more than you think!

I have a fantastic Cuisinart, but I use my KitchenAid stand mixer much more frequently. Perhaps it's user error, but I can't seem to get the Cuisinart to slice things the way I want so I usually don't bother to pull it out of the cabinet.

Regular Cuisinart. I do not use it everyday. I do use it whenever I am cooking for more than the three of us. I do consider it (and my Kitchen Aid stand mixer which I use way less frequently) to be essential kitchen items.

I pretty much only use mine to make homemade pesto and during 'canning' season when I make tons of salsa to can.
I have a mini processor that was about $15 that I use for more everyday chopping of onions, garlic etc.
I also have a wand blendar that I use to puree some foods right in the pot - soups, but mostly for my homemade jams.
I say, if you have the room to store it, then yes. I have several shelves in my basement where I keep things like my processor, bread machine, turkey roaster oven, canning supplies, pots etc that are big and don't get used often.

I have an old-school cuisinart with 5 blades. Indispensible and yes, I do use it often, esp. if my hands are hurting or I'm making pesto or a tapenade or something else like that.

I have a cuisinart. I only take it out for certain recipes, but I love it for those recipes! It slices, chops, etc...

For small jobs I usually don't take it out because I don't want to have to wash it, but it is well worth it for big jobs.

I know you are talking about pros for a food processor, but I inherited a handheld wand "mixer" that also purees and grinds, etc and for the occassional processor (that I am) it is a lifesaver and much more economical. I also prefer to slice using a mandoline silcer:)

I've had several large food processors over the years, and, honesty, never used them, much, if at all.
Then my MIL bought me a (I think) Black & Decker Handy chopper I love it and use it ALL the time. Under $20. It's so small & handy that it's not intimidating to use at all. Now my Kitchen Aid stand mixer that I *had* to have--in Red? It's on the basement shelves. I think I've used it once. I prefer my hand mixer for every day use. But the handy Chopper is great--and everything can go into the dishwasher.
