Family Holiday Movie Suggestions

It's a classic musical but I loved them at a young age and my kids do too, so I'm going to suggest A White Christmas... though they might get bored at some parts.

Home Alone, the first one. C L A S S I C

This is not a holiday movie, but we love Ponyo. Its very sweet and adults can watch it, too.

All of your ideas are great. My kids love Elf, but I did have to contend with my then 2 year old, pretending to burp and asking everyone if they heard it for about a week. ;). The Santa Clause is a favorite in our house...TIm Allen. The original, not the sequels.

Fred Claus is a GREAT movie! We all love it.

Our favorite is Christmas Vacation. My husband and I watch it every year on Thanksgiving to get us pumped up to decorate. Not really for the kids, though!!

I am not quite sure why..but my daycare kids..boys and girls..love our Barbie version of the Nutcracker! Go figure! If nothing else, its a fun filler for them on a snowly afternoon..only about an hour long...

ETA~ I love the Santa Clause and the part 2 where he finds a wife. Funny stuff!

The movie is about a girl who's best friend is moving away and her Aunt Millie comes to visit. She tells her a wonderful story about a young girl named Katie meeting one of Santa's reindeer. A very heartwarming story with wonderful teaching about friendships.

A wonderful movie about a woman, played by Jewel Staite, who has taken her active duty brother's son into her home and it's almost Christmas. It is a wonderful story about family, finding love, opening ones heart and believing in ideals, and the meaning of Christmas. Several of the scenes brought tears to my eyes, I don't cry at movies very often either.

We also have the Barbie movies too.

We have all of them and I am happy to let the kids watch them 24 hours a day, they are good morally uplifting movies. They teach friendship, gaining confidence, believing in oneself, all kinds of good things. I am including a list from Amazon but we love each and every one of them.

I think my favorite is The Diamond Castle from the whole list, not just the holiday ones, but the kids most favorite is The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Again, we do have them all and buy them as soon as they come out.

How about the Santa Clause (1, 2 or 3), my daughter loves them. Any of the classics, Santa Claus is coming to town, Rudolph the red nose reindeer. I have two box sets of the classic movies from the late 60's and 70's. They were always my favorates. We also like Elf and Fred Claus. If you can watch them before your two year old does, some of them might scare her.

I love the original "Home Alone," but personally I think your kids are too young for it. It has a lot of action type violence and some swearing. It was made before the PG-13 rating and it is rated PG. I suspect that now it would be rated PG-13. My kids always found a Christmas Carol boring. The Grinch is a classic.

I love "A Christmas Carol," especially the 1984 version with George C. Scott, but it's pretty scary! The Grinch might be better - his kind of meanness might be easier for children to handle than Scrooge's is.

Charlie Brown might be one to think about, too.

If you can get a copy of "The Snowman" - it's a short (30-minute) animated film from the 80s - think about getting that. It is beautifully done and children and grownups should love it.

"White Christmas" is a treat for everyone; even though it wasn't made for kids, it's family-friendly and has great music and dancing. It's another of my favorites.

My kid's are watching Santa buddie's, ABC family is already doing the "25 days of Christmas" and have been playing alot of wonderful movie's. I even recorded acouple of them through our cable- dvr or something like that where you just press record. My children always watch "The Grinch", "The polar express", "A Christmas carol", and they LOVE "A Christmas story" and they always have that one part where the parent's tell the little boy no about the shot gun and that he'll shoot his eye out so our kid's will say "you'll shoot your eye out! you'll shoot your eye out!", I love that movie too! Bring's back memories as a kid!
