I guess I am looking for reasurance on this issue. My son currently goes to a daycare in Huntley at a pretty new facilty. He is being switched to a new room today. They told me last week that the room would be set up ready to go by this morning. While I understand things not being ready. When I took him in this am and we went into the room to put his stuff away the room was in poor shape. Dirty toys and when I opened the fridge to put his lunch away it was not on and there was mold in it. I had no where to write down information like what time he woke up how much he had eaten for breakfast or anything. I have not meet any of his new teachers. My son has many food allergies and would have liked to explin them to the new tacher.
I had my husband call the director to tell her of our concerns. She pretty much told him that the old teacher and the new teacher talked about my son and that the new teacher is all updated. Then she went on to tell my husband that since we have had many concerns with the school overall maybe we should find a new dacare as they could use the room. I should mention also that last week we got a call from the school that are son had fallen on his face and that his teeth were bleeding and that we should pick him up and take him to the dr. They had told us that he was sitting on the floor and fell forward. Our son is now 14 months old and can walk. I really dont think they were watching him at all. With this all being said I am very upset with the school and unfortuantly he is there for one more month. I am just concered on how they will treat him now. I just want to know if I am speaking off key or if anyone else has had things likre this happen and what did you do.
With all this being said. I just want my son to be safe and have fun and learn in a clean enviorment is that too much to ask?

What can I do next?

Too much to ask? Absolutely not. Regardless as to if you are speaking off key or not, if you are uncomfortable with the situation you have every right to speak up.

Dirty toys? Not good, but can happen once in awhile, I guess. Especially if they are trying to change rooms and get things organized. But, if this is a regular occurence...unacceptable.

Mold in the fridge? Unacceptable. Please.

Being told to find another facility? Huh? Honestly, HAVE you complained a lot to them that she would say this? Since you didn't make the phone call to hear this - do you think your husband gave off the wrong impression? I deal with everything with regard to anything at daycare because my husband has a habit of being very sarcastic and I know he rubs people the wrong way sometimes (even me, lol).

Your son falling and hitting his face? Well, I had a call about 3 months ago that my son fell back and hit his head. His eyes rolled back and they had to call the paramedics. I was asked to come get him and observe him at home for the rest of the day. He's over 2 years old, so I DO think accidents can happen. They can't have an eye on every single child every single minute. Things can happen in an instant, so this alone wouldn't bother me as much. Heck, I've left the room to get my son's coat and have come back to him standing on the fireplace hearth, speaker, his railroad table, etc. Once they can walk and climb, it's a constant battle (as I'm sure you know).

If you are looking for a center, we go to a great KinderCare center in Cary on Rte 14. Their phone # is ###-###-####. My 2 yr old and 11 week old go there. If you want any information on it, feel free to send me a message.

You didn't mention the name of your center (and I understand), but if it is a KinderCare, they are corporately owned and run by a Center Director. Other centers are corporate named (The Goddard School, for example) but are franchised owned by individuals. If you are at a KinderCare, I'd be on the phone to the District Manager ASAP to let them know your feelings. I've recently become in more contact with a Center Director and the corporate "people" are very strict.

I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this issue. Finding good day care is difficult and I'm sure the stress this is causing isn't good. Is there anyway you can move sooner?

That is not too much to ask for!! I currently take my 6 mos old and 2.5 yr old to Kindercare (used to be a Children's Learning World until this year) in Lake in the Hills. It is right behind the LITH movie theater right off of Randall. I am very happy with the care and attention my chilren receive there and would never suggest a better place to be. If want any other info on the cente I'd be happy to fill you in!

I think that you have a right to have a daycare that is clean. Mold in a refrigerator is not healthy at all! As far as a place to write down when he woke, etc, I have not seen that at many places. I used to tell them that my son woke up on the wrong side of the bed before I left if that was the case. As far as a 14 month old falling over, it happens. They cannot give your child one-on-one attention every minute of the day, that is why you are sending him to daycare and not having him with a nanny at home. I found just the best daycare/school, but I don't think they take 1 year olds. You can check though. It is Joy Community and they have a new building right off of Lakewood and Algonquin Road. I have not been to the new building, but my son went there last summer at the old place. They are Christian based, but they don't do much as far as religion goes. They just more teach them to treat others nice, etc. The people there are all so nice and caring. My son had a great time there.

There is a really nice daycare in Algonquin just off of 31 near the river called "The Learning Tree". A friend of mine used to take her daughter to the branch in Elgin and they loved it. I have my son in a place closer to where I work, but if that didn't work out so well, he would be at The Learning Tree for sure. When I went to visit there it was wonderful, small classes, most of the teachers had been there for a long time and some had children of their own there. Looks like there is one in Huntley now too if that would be better for you. I would not keep my son in a place like you describe.

As a home daycare owner in the area, I would say these are all legitmate concearns that are in an unacceptable status. Corporate centers are paid well to have staff that should be taking care of the daily sanitation of toys, the cleaning of the fridge, cots, etc. Daily report sheets should be ready to go for all children to write down any meds or other items of concearn for a child as well. I'm astounded that they would be so rude as to state that since you are "complaining" they would rather not have you there?! What kind of customer service do they value there....clearly not much.
I would certainly not honor their business anymore and look elsewhere for care.
