Hi ladies! My 19 month old has. eczema. My problem is I don't use anything with fragrance. I had to change laundry detergent, soaps, and no lotions. He does ok. But I have noticed when u use sun block it will irritate his skin. Is there anything you have found that won't irritate there skin and cause eczema to break out?

What can I do next?

We use SunShade by Melaleuca. My sister uses on her 4 yr old too and he has lots of allergies, sensitive skin, etc and can now only use their products as others cause irritation.

My sensitive-skinned kiddos like "Neutrogena pure & free baby sunblock lotion." It's SPF 60 and a mineral-based sunscreen, so it seems to be less irritating than regular chemical-based sunscreens. My 6-year-old daughter says that regular sunscreen stings her face, but she likes this. It will make kids look a bit vampirish (because of the zinc oxide), and you have to scrub it off with a cloth at the end of the day, and it's around $10 for 3 ounces, BUT...it works well! My kids don't get sunburned and their skin doesn't break out like it does with other sunscreens. I've seen this sunscreen at Target, Walmart, and CVS.

I won't get on my soap box, but please do some research as to what you should be using on your child.
Explore this sight and you will find some answers as to why your childs skin can't handle what is available on the Target/Walmart sunscreen shelves...

We use California Baby... we are an organic, chemical free home and this stuff works well for my fair children.
Good luck.

My middle daughter has very sensitive skin and when she was a baby she would break out with all of the sun blocks no matter how gentle. We ended up keeping her in light whites or pastels and bonnets. She didn't have much hair, and what she had was fair, blonde, and curly so her head had to be covered. Her cheeks, neck, and ears needed to be shaded.

We mostly did that AND kept her in the shade. She was very sensitive to, well, everything early on due to Sensory Integration Disorder (aka Sensory Processing Disorder) so she didn't like being out in bright sunlight or the heat. At 8 years old she still doesn't. We've just resigned ourselves to making sure she's appropriately outfitted.

The other two do fine with sun block, but we use sensitive formulas as long as there's no eucalyptus or lanolin (I'm allergic).

We've tried all kinds of fancy supposedly hypoallergenic brands of sunscreen. One of my DD's had severe eczema as a toddler and preschooler. The ONLY thing that we found that she doesn't react to is Waterbabies or Target generic brand Waterbabies. She's 11 now, and it is still the only sunscreen my entire family uses.

I put my son in a t-shirt that has UPF 50. If you use the other suggestion from Lynn, plus the shirt, that should be great, as you will use as little product as possible and only where he needs it.

HI--
Badger sunscreen with no fragrance---it's as natural as it gets. Nothing toxic whatsoever (it's the only one my kids can use).

My two year old has eczema and most sunscreens (even some sensitive ones) can break him out. I have found that Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby sunscreen (in the white and pink tube) so far has not had a reaction with his skin. Also has a SPF of 50 or 60

Hi Kim! I recommend sunscreen from Nature's Garden Therapies (a friend of mine is the founder, you can find her on etsy.com or www.naturesgardentherapies.com) or sunscreen from Poof's Closet. Poofy Organics out of New Jersey makes AMAZING sunscreen that will not irritate your child's skin.
I don't recommend Melaleuca sunscreen because it literally damaged my son's skin.

I hope you find something that works for you!

My 8 month old daughter also has eczema and our doctor recommended Vanicream SPF 60 sunscreen. You can buy it at the pharmacy. It is awesome! It does not bother my baby's skin at all. I have recently stated using it as well as my face would sting a bit after exercising when using regular sunscreen. It is a bit greasy when you first put it on though. Good luck!

Anything PABA free should be okay, but I've found anything from Whole Foods works for my son with eczema. The more natural, the better for him. You can check ewg.org to check on products. Do a search for sunscreen and it'll give you all the rankings. GL!
