Mamapedia collective - what DVD player do you own or like? Looks like our old Memorex just died and needs to be replaced. Should I bother getting a BluRay? And is it better to get wifi enabled for Hulu and Netflix? How does that work? Santa's elves need some tech support!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We do have wifi. Is it better to get a wifi enabled DVD player or a Roku box? Any experiences with that?

Definitely get a Blu Ray player, and definitely pay the extra $10 or so to get one that is Wifi enabled with Netflix and Hulu and Vudo, etc. already on there. So worth it.

We use Netflix mostly for the kids shows. We have rented from Vudo a couple of times. It's a little more expensive than renting from Family Video, but we can decide to watch a movie after the kids go to bed, and no one has to drive to the video store. Also, once your rental is over, the movie is no longer available. You don't have to remember to take it back to the video store.

As Marda said, if you do not buy one that is Wifi enabled, you will have to shell out another $70 or so to buy what you need in order to use any online app.

The latest DVD player we got is a Sony BluRay Wifi. We use it to watch Netflix in the bedroom where we don't have a gaming system. We like it and it was under $100.

My daughter and her family have a blu ray DVD player that is WiFi enabled. They get Netflix and Hulu as well as other options.it also still plays regular DVDs too. think it's a Samsung but not sure. It cost around $100. We all love it. I would definitely get one that does all this.

I have a DVD player and bought another thing so I could get Netflix and Hulu. Can't remember what it's called. On sale it cost $65. I would've bought the blu ray with the wifi but I still play VCR and my player plays both DVD and VCR.

Bluray player with wifi. Granted you have wifi in your home already. If you don't like others said you'll need to get a wireless router, granted you even have internet in your home.
Netflix is a monthly subscription service. $8 a month for up to 2 devices and $11 a month for up to 4 devices (gaming system, smart phone, tablet, bluray player etc). The program/player are built in to the bluray player so it's like a channel.
Netflix has current shows, just not current seasons. Tons of movies for all age groups.
