Do You Use Your Toaster Oven Often?

I have a toaster oven that I store away. I want to keep it on my counter and use it more. The problem is that the only thing I know what to use it for is to toast subs. I bought the thing at a garage sale, so no manual came with it. Today, I used it to toast some bread, but only the tops toasted not the the bottoms. Am I using this appliance incorrectly? What do you use your toaster oven for?

What can I do next?

When I had counter space, I used my toaster oven often. I rarely, if ever, used it for toast though. :) I liked to use it to heat up and cook food, but toast always seemed to come out uneven. Basically anything you do in a full sized oven, you can do in a toaster over, just smaller quantities. It was great for lunches and smaller meals. Here is Texas you do anything you think of to keep things a bit cooler.

Mine sits prominently on my kitchen counter and we use it every day.

We toast everything it, like regular toast. I do not own a toaster. I got rid of it, because I can put the regular bread in the toaster oven. I cannot put bagels in the toaster.

We bake potatoes, mini muffins, roast a large eggplant, roast tomatoes and garlic, toast seeds, nuts and herbs for dishes, etc.

There should be a knob on the front to control how the heating elements works. one will heat from just the top like a broiler, one will heat both top and bottom and one will only toast the bottom.

We do not use our regular oven very often, because it is just too hot down here. We also do not eat toast very often so we do not need just a toaster.

We use the toaster over to make nachos.
Thick pieces of bread for sandwiches, Melted cheese sandwiches, we will reheat lots of leftovers like pizza and place it in the toaster to get the crust crispy. Anything that needs something made crispy again.

I even heat of tortillas that have been stored in the fridge.
Quesadillas can be made in there.

Of course any pastries are good, when microwaved to heat up and then popped in the toaster to bring back the flakiness.

I bet if you google the name and number of your toaster, you could find the handbook online

I use my Black & Decker toaster oven almost daily...I do NOT have a toaster...I use my toaster oven as a toaster...

LOVE IT!!! What don't I use it for? I heat up leftovers, toast muffins, toast, waffles...my boys use it for grilled cheese sandwiches when they are in "hurry"!

Don't know what appliance you have...you can look up the owners manual on-line and get the directions for appropriate use!!

I don't have one but my aunt and cousin use theirs all the time. It's nice when you only have something small to bake, roast or broil and you don't want to turn on the big oven. They use it for mini pizzas/quiches, half a loaf of garlic bread, taquitos, baked dips, one or two pieces of chicken, etc.

I use mine.
To toast, or heat up or bake smallish things.
It is very useful.

I had one I used all the time and loved it. A few years ago I bought one and took it back because it took 10 mintues to make a peice of toast.

Go to the manfucures website to look for an instruction book.

I used my toaster oven in place of my regular oven for a whole year when our oven broke and then we remodeled our kitchen. I did everything in it -- even roasted chickens. If you look online, I'm sure you can find an instruction manual for your particular model. It's one setting to toast on both sides, another to broil on one side.

We use our toaster oven almost every day. We don't even have a regular toaster! We toast bread, make quesadillas, bake chik-patties, warm up some types of leftovers in it... I am sure I could come up with more. We also got it at a yard sale and the woman said it was "defective" and always burned one side of the toast... turns out you do have to figure out how to use it.
Ours has a switch with 3 settings: bake (heat from below), broil (heat from above) and toast (heat from both sides). So you have to choose the right setting for what you are doing.
In addition our rack has two sides: one to use it by itself or turn it around to put in an insert that came with it. If you have the rack wrong side up, it is too close to the lower heating coil and stuff gets burned... again you have to figure out how to use it...

I bought one and found it to be completely useless, well at least in relation to the amount of counter space it takes.

We have one at work but since it is the only heating device other than the microwave, well and it is their prime real estate not mine, I do use it to heat things up there. :)

It sounds like you are using it on the broil setting, you have to put it on bake for both sides to cook.

Well looking at the other posts, ignore me, clearly I just love the stand mixer better than the toaster oven, or maybe I just love my oven more, who knows.....

I asked Santa for one last Christmas. I didn't like having to turn on the oven just to heat something small.

You really don't need a manual, although I'm sure you can find one on-line.

I use mine for heating up frozen snacks (hot pretzels, egg rolls) and for cooking/baking small quanties of food (roasted veggies).

When I was in college, living in an apartment with my sister, we used it every day. Now that I am married and have 3 kids, I don't use it at all because it isn't big enough to cook what I need it to without doing multiple cycles and dirtying a lot more dishes. It is on a shelf in our garage--I only keep it because SOMEDAY we will be renovating our kitchen, and I will probably use it to cook some meals while our kitchen is out of commission.

I had one taking up space on my counter for about 17 years. It is now in the garage. I'm going to sell it at the yard sale. I used to use it before I had kids when my husband drove long distance and I was alone. It was OK to heat something up for one person, but not big enough to cook for a family! The only thing I've used it for recently was to toast cinnamon buns.

We use ours nearly everyday, from toast to making scalloped potatoes. It uses less electricity since it only has a small surface area to heat. Ours has the crazy multi settings with convection I love it. When this one bites the dust I want to get the one that has three tray levels.

All the time. I use it for toast, bagels, waffles, chicken nuggets, tater tots/french fries, reheating pizza and a million other things. My sister in laws don't even have microwaves and use their toaster ovens for everything. Like others have said check online for the manual and I'm sure you'll find a ton of things you can cook in it.

I love my toaster oven and use it all the time.
Heating up waffles, pop tarts, toast. I will bake a small batch of cookies, or an 8x8 pan of treats. If I'm just making a small amount of fries I use the toaster oven. Basically I use my toaster oven like an oven so I don't have to heat up my big oven for small items. Also toast subs, or make pj&J sandwiches and toast them to make them gooey. Or crisp up tortillas to make my own tortilla chips. It is great for re-heating pizza. Or making cheesy garlic bread.

I haven't owned or used a regular toaster since I moved out of my parent's house at 18.

I used to use ours all the time and when we moved I tossed out the old one and bought a new one and now it sits in the closet.

if you want to toast both sides you should move the rack position.

I would use ours for toasting bread, cooking hot dogs, and reheating pizza.

Nope. It is just as easy for me to use the actual oven. In fact, my toaster over has moved to the garage. I should really put it on freecycle.
