Did My Water Break?

Congratulations!!! I hope baby is here.
THis happened to me, I thought I wet the bed and I leaked all day. I even went to work at a preschool. When I called the hospital she told me to come in and yes hon I wasn't coming home in one piece.

You have a slow leak, and sounds like you are in pre-labor. I had one baby who was a posterior lie, he was sunnyside up, nothing to worry about but awful back pain. Good luck.

Sounds like you are leaking. Don't delay in seeing dr. Infection can happen after a few days of broken membranes.

I am hoping you have already contacted your caregiver and if your water did actually break and you are not just leaking that are holding your new baby in your arms. Congrats!
I just wanted to clear up a few things for anyone that might read this late as I did.
You do not "HAVE" to have your baby in less than 24 hours after your water breaks. Infection can happen but usually infection comes from things being introduced into the v**inal cavity. Things like fingers or insturments. Or iritation from repeated v**inal exams. It is very possible to have a small leak and not go into immediate labor and not have your baby be in any harms way. This is a very common misconception but it is not unusual for labor to not begin right away.
Contact your caregiver and unless they say to go don't go to the hospital yet. Drs and hospitals will put you on a clock the second you walk in the door. If your labor does't start within a certain amount of time and progress as fast as they want they will begin interventions like pitocin. If that doens't speed you up watch out for more serious interventions like c-sections. Make no mistake. The hospital wants you to have your baby in the easiest and most cost effective way possible for them and then get out as quickly as possible. A woman in labor for 12 hours costs the hospital moeny. A c-section completed in less than an hour MAKES the hospital money. Stay at home until advised by your caregiver to go.
That being said at the sign of leaking fluid your you should call your caregiver for advice but there is no reason to panic.

That's exactly what happened to me 20 years ago with my first! Definately call your doctor and head to the hospital... It's time omg!! Good luck!

Get to your doctor! By the time you ready this, hopefully you have already gone! My water broke with all three of my babies, and I always had back labor.

Contact your doc. I don't mean to alarm you, but this happened to me and my baby was delivered immediately under emergency circumstances. With no amniotic fluid, the cord can be crimped and the baby be deprived of oxygen quickly.

it may be leaking you need to go to the doctor as soon as possible to make sure the baby isnt in any distress!

YES!!!!...you should call your doctor. I started having pain in my back and then my water broke. at 33 weeks. My daughter was delivered the next morning. Any change in discharge or unusual body aches, you should contact you OB.

if ur water breaks you HAVE to have the baby in like 16-24 hours (can't remember exactly how long) or else infection sets in and the baby could die. Call ur dr immediately.

I do believe amniotic fluid is clear - or rather, should be. That's a good sign. If it's not clear that means the baby has pooped in the fluid (meconium), will breathe/swallow it, and again, put the child at risk. So its great that the fluid is clear but I would call the office/midwife/birthing coach immediately.

YES the fluid is clear if the baby is healthy and you are also. It sounds as if you should go to your doc or hospital. NOW not later!

I would definitely check w/my gynecologist right away!! If the baby aspirates merconium, it can cause some risks.

You need to have it checked. Your doctor or the labor qnd delivery RN's can use a special pqper called Nitrazene to see if it is amniotic fluid or urine. It is extremely important that if your water is broken that you deliver within 24 hours of rupture of membranes foe the safety of your baby. Hope this helps. Good luck and congrats.

yes it should be clear. sometimes it is lightly stained with meconium, (the babies first BM) The amniotic sac protects the baby from germs in the v**ina. Once your water is broken or leaking, you nedd to only let sterile items enter your v**ina (no sex, or foreplay in the area)Showers instead of baths unlewss you are in active labor, and no unnecessary v** exams.

It sounds very much like what I went through. Yes the fluid is clear. You should go into the hospital, or at the very least call your Dr. With that sack broken you could get an infection. Blessings on your delivery!

Sounds like it has and yes, the fluid is clear. If you go to the bathroom, does it flow faster? If so, there's a pretty good chance it has. Good luck!

You're so close! Or already there? In any case I wanted to echo the last two replies. It does sound like a leak rather than a rupture. And infection is definitely avoidable. Your odds of infection go up rather than down at the hospital.

I began leaking like you describe on a Tuesday night (with my first and only baby five months ago), and the leak continued through the next day, but not constantly, mostly when I was moving around. And it was slow. My midwife tested the fluid on Wednesday evening and it was definitely amniotic fluid. My labor didn't become active until much later that night and my baby wasn't born until early Friday morning. My water never truly broke until maybe a few hours before she was born, after pushing for quite some time. And my baby was fine, I was fine. She was born at home.
