My son had the same problem (he was 3 weeks early as well). For us, our son had a problem when he had too much sugar or too much juice. As soon as we cut back on the juice, he did much better. Also, we gave him chewable acidophilis pills and that made a huge difference.

I agree that it could be the pediasure . . . does your daughter have any problems with milk??

Good luck, I hope she's doing better soon.

Could your daughter be lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy products? These problems are common. Why not try a soy-based drink?

I'll second the Florastor. There are two versions-one for adults, and one for kids. The kids version is flavored (fruit, I think( and powdered. You can sprinkle it into their food or drink. My son had this same problem. He had diarrhea for almost 6months. We went to pediatricians, allergists, GI Specialists. None of their tests turned up anything. The allergist told us about Florastor. It took awhile for the diarrhea to go away completely and we had to use it again after a couple of weeks. But it does help tremendously.
Good luck!

It very well could be milk but when my kids have diarreha I give them bananas and toast for snacks and maybe even a meal and it does help. If she is not allergic to milk also try some yogurt. Also it could be juice, I can't give my daughter juice because it goes right through her. I give her Propell instead.
Good luck but it also sounds like you need more help from your Ped.

Seems like you need some more help from your pediatrician. I would let him/her know that you are concerned about this and need more help in trying to help your 2 year old.

I would be wondering about food allergies and sensitivities trying the most easy to digest foods and over days adding more difficult to digest ones, like milk and wheat.

Good luck

Do you think it's the pediasure? I've never given it to my girls so I don't know what a typical reaction to it is. Is it a little flu bug? My 21 month old just went through a chronic case of diarreha last month. it last two weeks and now she has diarreha a couple times a week. I did not change anything in her diet or routine. Try putting her on the BRATY diet, bannanas, rice, applesauce (not apples), toast and yogurt (something about the active cultures helps). Definetely let your doctor know what is going on. Chances are they will tell you to ride it out unless she is getting dehydrated or has 8 or more bouts of diarreha a day. My daughter was only about 3-4 times a day and never got dehydrated. Watch out for diaper rash too! Hers started about five days in and I just finally got rid of it. Good luck, sounds like you have your hands full!

I would take all dairy away from her for a few days to see if there is a differnce.
All my children have had this problem one worse then the rest but the doctor never would agree with me and was not any help so I tried taking all dairy away for a week and wow the diarrhea stopped.
My one son didn't have milk for years starting at the age of 10 months and he grew up just fine.
Just a year ago I started buying Oberweis Milk products and they all now can drink and eat dairy there are no hormones added it is good milk.
I always liked going to the doctor and the question always came up How much milk are they having? If I said none boy they let me have it, so I just started telling them ohhh they have three glasses a day and I never heard a word about it (I lied) We know our children better then anyone and have the right to make some decisions all on our own. Just try taking the milk away or maybe it is another food that is bothering her. I can't have MSG and that is in everything. When you take something away write it down to keep track and see if there is a difference just take one thing away at a time so you know which thing it is.

My son constantly had diarrhea also. Until I realized that he had a milk intolerance, my pediatrician suggested Florastor. By the way, don't let them tell you that this having diarrhea is normal. You should try ruling things out first but to get you over the edge and to normalize your 2year old get this. You can only buy it at some pharmacies so I would suggest calling first. Alot of people won't know what you are talking about too because it is fairly new. I live in Batavia and the Target on Randall does carry it but you have to ask for it because it is in the back. It is a natural remedy for children with chronic or long term diarrhea. It is for a healthy gut is what it says. It really worked and you just mix it in with juice or something like that. Good luck!

P.S. I feel for you the day my son shot me in the face with his is when I completly lost it. (He was still in diapers but still!) I went 14months with my son telling the ped that there was something GI wrong with my son and because he had reflux it was also blaimed but I knew there was something else wrong. It makes me sad to thing that something so simple like changing to soy would make a world of difference.

My almost 2 yr. old was having a problem digesting Pedi-sure too. He was having trouble digesting the proteins in milk, so he's back on formula and doing great. Good Luck!

Hi T.. I am sorry to hear you are having problems with this as it can be very frustrating. My cousin's little one when through something similar and they started examining her diet. What they found was she has a sensitivity to gluten - it's called Celiac's Disease. Gluten is found in all forms of wheat and other related types of grains.
Her daughter was not having problems every day and then she would have issues all week one week. So, it was hard for them to pinpoint when the dr suggested examining the diet. Between that examination and some tests, this is what they discovered. By just changing her diet, they have NO issues. I hope this helps you - just do some research on your own about various causes of diarrhea as the diet may be a big clue as to why this is happening. Food allergies/sensitivities are so common in children. Best of luck and keep us posted!

My son had constipation to the point of incontinence which meant it looked like he had diarrea. Is it really runny (sorry to be so gross but that is life as a mom)or is it almost grainy like it is dried out? If it is runny go with the BRATY diet. If it is grainy it could be constipation. Either way pay close attention to what he eats as this could be the way to control it. Good Luck!!

T.,
My two year had diarreha that was like water, her doctor told me that was because she was conspation. Talk with your doctor to see if that the problem. If it not the problem with my oldest when she had diarrhea for couple days my grandmother told me to try jell-o water. Just take some jell-o mix it in a cup and just let her drink it. Hope things work out.
