Hello Moms -
I am 35 weeks pregnant, and my feet and ankles are very swollen and uncomfortable. Has anyone used compression stockings during pregnancy, and, if so, what was your experience? Do you have a favorite brand? I hate that I would have to start wearing hose right as short season begins in LA, but if they work, I'd be willing to do it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

They sell compression socks at Walmart. I have wide calves so I buy the men's version and tuck the excess under my toes inside my shoes. They stay up and work really well.

They also have women's sizes but I can't get them to stay up. They come in beige and black. They are about $8 per pair here. I like them because they are not too stretchy, they compress well. I can put a pair on and wear them under slacks and no one knows they aren't just black socks.

In pharmacies they often sell compression knee highs too. You'll need to be careful about the size because they are non-returnable. I get the thicker ones that have a slight texture to them because I want the compression to be strong.

Here's some links to the ones they have at Walmart. The men's are next to the diabetic socks in the general sock area and the women's are hanging with the regular socks near the packages of socks.

These are the ones we get my husband that I am always borrowing...lol.

I wore them for awhile for a few weeks after giving birth.
They weren't very comfortable.
You could, but the swelling resolves itself within a few weeks of having your baby.
Keeping you feet up helps, and so does drinking of plenty of water (helps to flush your system).

Yes I did and loved them.I had the thigh high style tye went all the way up to my thighs very hard to get on & off.Hoever you can't just go and buy them OTC during pregnancy thye go by swelling, fit, size & what you will need them for so a prescription will be written & then you'll have to go to a phramacy that specializes in these items. So worth the money I spent $140.00 the price ranges due to what type/style/size

Yes! I wear them throughout the whole pregnancy. They do prevent swelling.

This last pregnancy, I bought myself some expensive ones to last the whole pregnancy. If I was you, I'd just buy some cheap ones at this point. Get a few pairs.

I wished I had used them sooner in my pregnancy, because fully believe that they would have helped with the broken veins I got. I forget what brand I used, but I got them from a medical supply store. Lots of times I wore pants and just wore the knee high compression hose. WIth the full length hose, I found that wearing long sundresses instead of shorts was a good option for me.

Lot's of women get swollen fee and ankles during pregnancy due to increased blood volume. However, it can also be a sign of preeclampsia, particularly if this is your first pregnancy. If you haven't been getting regular prenatal care, please make sure to check in with your doctor for a blood pressure check and urinalysis for protein.

Cutting your salt intake and keeping your feet up (if you can!) can help a lot , as can soaking your feet and ankles in a salt bath. I used to have my husband massage my feet and legs upward (toward the knee) in the evening, which gave me significant relief.

Congratulations, and at least you don't have to carry the pregnancy through the hottest part of the Summer!
