My daughter had a chipped tooth so we took her to the dentist and had them bond it but the bonding came loose. Now what should we do?

What can I do next?

If it's a baby tooth, it'll fall out. My son chipped his front tooth but we waited until it fell out because the chip was minor. If it's not, then take her back to the dentist to have it fixed again. Good luck!

I agree with Jamiee K. If it is a baby tooth and not bothering her or cutting her lip, let it be. If it is an adult tooth call the dentist and have it bonded again. My husband has a chipped tooth in the front and he has had to have it bonded more than once.

I agree with S.H. Go back to the dentist! If you chipped the paint on your car, went and got it fixed and the paint fell off. What would you do? Go back!
You didn't give too much info... how old is your daughter or any other details but regardless, the job was not satisfactory and as Ina pointed out, it depends how damaged the tooth was. At the age of 2 my daughter two got caps on her two front teeth~ because we were told the permanent ones could come in damaged as well if they were not treated.

If it's an adult tooth, take her back to the dentist. My bite is slightly off, and as an adult, two of my front teeth chipped. I've had about 4 dentists do various kinds of bonding over the years, and they all came loose eventually in @2-7 years (salt water taffy did it the last time). It doesn't necessarily mean that your dentist did shoddy work.

Call the dentist and they should do it again for free. Just make sure that she does not use her front teeth as tools.

Just like a lot of others have said, depending on if it is a baby tooth or adult tooth. If it is a baby tooth I wouldn't stress too much since they will loose the tooth but if it is an adult tooth then you will want it fixed. My brother chipped his tooth and had it bound but it eventually broke off again. Maybe you could have the dentisit shave the tooth to make it less noticeable (this could also be done with a baby tooth. Talk to your dentist about other options. Could they put a cap of some sort on the tooth since it sounds like it is pretty common for the chipped tooth to loose its bonding after sometime? Good luck!

That depends on how badly the tooth is chipped, which tooth it is and how old your child is. I would go back to the dentist to discuss it.
Depending on the exact situation you may do nothing, smoothe out sharp edges and do nothing else, cap the tooth or pull it... lots of options.
I chipped my permanent upper front teeth badly when I was about 8 and have lived happily with a composite fix ever since (almost 30 years, got it redone twice). It is way less expensive, painful and traumatic than crowns or caps, but has an ok aesthetic look (not as good as veneers, but WAY better than caps) but you have to have a dentist who is good at doing it.
Good luck!

as a dental assistant i will tell you that 1. the dentist will fix it for free. even though it may or may not be his fault 2. you and your daughter need to understand that with simple bonding, that tooth wont be NEARLY as strong as it used to be. she should not be biting into anything chewy/sticky (taffy, gum, etc.) or anything hard like an apple or popcorn kernal, etc. but also bonding is NOT a permanent solution, only a temporary, if it is a baby tooth she should be fine, if it is a perm. tooth, then you should seriously consider a crown or veneer (veneers are much more expensive but in the long run better overall because she wont have to lose as much of her natural tooth structure, thus making it stronger.) Otherwise she will have this problem ALL THE TIME. also, it could very well be that her bite is off making her teeth hit each other unevenly and causing more stress on that tooth, making it more prone to breaking. dont fix the bite, same problem will also continue forever! good luck talk it over with your dentist to see what is the best solution for her!

I've had a chipped front tooth since I was about 6. Every few years the bonding does wear down and has to be done over again. It should last longer than a couple of months though, so I would take her back to the dentist. Some dentists are better at fixing them than others.
