Checking Out BABY NAMES

My husband and I are trying to figure out what we would like to name our little girl when she is born. We have thought of "Ashley Diane" with the initials ADP and "Emma Rose" with the initials ERP. We would like other's opinions regarding the names especially if anyone knows if there are any bad names or nicknames that could be associated with them. Thanks...

What can I do next?

Emma Rose is a beautiful name but as a teacher of young kids, ERP is see as a nickname for "puke". Sorry!!! So, I would vote for ADP.

I agree with most of the other moms in choosing Emma Rose. It is a beautiful name for a little girl. As far as bad nicknames, kids will be kids and can find something wrong in any name. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure the name you choose will be perfect.

Choosing names is as personal choice that should reflect the desire of the parents. I don't know of any negative nicknames associated with any of your choices. Maybe you should wait until your baby is born to make a final decision. Sometimes when you see a baby, a certain name seems most appropriate. As for me, all three of our kids' names were chosen before they were born, but so far they seemed to be the right name for each child.

So heres my story:

I think I will be able to help you (atleast I hope!) I think that picking out a name for a baby is the funnest thing to do but at times it can give you a bit of a headache. You see, I come from a sicilian family and a german family (my mom is full sicilian and dad german) as you see, I have lots of intersting blood. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I wanted to carry on my uncles name (because he meant the world to me and passed away about 11 yrs. ago and his name was Salvatore) Ironicallly I met my soul mate and now husband who had the same name, Salvatore. Then we wanted to carry on his Nephews name, which is Dominic, he passed away about a year ago and he meant alot to him. So for us we felt it was important to carry on names from our family. You see, my husband Sal is the baby in the family, the last one to carry on the family genes so to speak. His sister did not have any babies, his brothers had girls and his oldest brother's son past away, so there were no boys left. I know I am telling you a life story here but I wanted to explain to you that when picking a name, find whats important to you, either its carrying on a special someone or just finding a name that represents or means something or just simply finding a name, sounds good and there you go! It will come to you. I already have names picked out for my "future" babies. (Is this ridiculous or what!) I cant wait to have a little girl. I am going to name her Vivianna Leonna G. (sorry, I dont want to give out our lastname) I fell in love w/the name Vivian since I was young, I always felt it is a beautiful name and I looked up its meaning and it means "alive" It just fits and the middle name comes from my wonderful grandmother "Leonna" Now this is going to be tricky for me b/c I have to carry on his mothers name too and her name is "Ada" Now how in the world am I going to do this! Great, now I am the one who is seeking advice! I plan on having atleast another girl and another boy. His name will be Vincent for sure but who knows, I just might change my mind....lol OK.So enough about me! SO TO WRAP UP THIS BOOK I JUST WROTE YOU,

NAME YOUR CHILD WHATEVER YOU WANT AND WHO CARES WHAT OTHERS THINK! LIKE OTHERS HAVE SAID, KIDS WILL BE KIDS, AND THEN THEY GROW UP (GET MATURE)EMMA ROSE IS A GREAT NAME AND YOU KNOW WHAT, SO IS ASHLEY DIANE. DONT THINK TWICE. NOW YOU TAKE CARE K? HOPE THAT I HELPED YOU IN SOME SORT OF WAY. :) BY THE WAY, CONGRATS TO YOUR BABY GIRL AND GOODLUCK!

I do have to say that Emma Rose is my favorite...but that may be because my daughters name is Emeline Rose (pronounced EMMA-LINE). We took the two middle names of our grandmothers and put them together. If you are wanting to look at other options, go back into your family history and check out those names, you might find a name there.

I do have a suggestion, I have always liked the names: Julianna, Margaret, Naomi, Cassandra (you could call her Cassie), and Sarah

Good Luck!!

Names are tricky. I did not have a name for my oldest son until I was 8 months pregnant and saw the movie "Message in a Bottle" with Kevin Costner. Kevin's name was Garret in the movie. Once I saw that movie, I KNEW in my heart that I would name my son Garrett. But I added the extra "t". I gave his dads best friends name as a middle name. With my first daughter, my husband and I went to Barnes and Noble when I was also 8 months pregnant and sat at a table with Baby Names Books for two hours until we came up with a name that we could BOTH agree on....Cassie. I gave her my middle name. And with my last daughter, we were told she was going to be a boy and we have the "peepee" picture to "prove" it. She was supposed to be Grant Alexander. "He" was going to have a "g" name to match Garrett because Cassie matched Chris my husband, and my stepson Tyler matched my first name T.. So we had two t's, two c's, and needed two g's. (My husbands thing.) Well, SHE came out a GIRL. And we were stumped in the hospital. So I gave my husband the winning vote on a name and he came up with Payton. She is named after Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears. And her middle name Nicole is just a name my husband thought would be pretty with Payton. If I had it to do over, I would have given Payton my middle name just for heritage like my other daughter, Cassie. But I like Nicole. Really with names, if people want to make fun of a name, they will find a way to ridicule it. Truly, whatever name you pick will be the perfect one for the child! Ashley Diane and Emma Rose are both beautiful names. And unique as well. I do not hear those names often. And I prefer uncommon names. As far as nicknames, ADP sounds like a printing company. And the only nickname I would come up with is Ash and Em. ERP just reminded me of Wyatt Erp. Not likely that kids nowadays will know who Wyatt Erp is. Good luck!

I like Emma Rose myself. I just flows together. I can't think of any nicknames that would come of that. I know of two Emma's 1 my neice and 2 a little girl at the school where I work. They are both very strong willed and a little bossy but so are most girls. LOL So I don't really relate that to the name. I don't know any Ashley's but it is a cute name also but my pick is Emma. Good Luck and congrats!!!

We Named our kids after favorite family members that we dont see as much as we'd like to!!! Our son Shawn Thomas is after my dad and my cousin tommy who is my dads best friend, they joke about if its Shawn Thomas or Thomas Shawn! Then our daughter we named after my grandmothers who have passed away. My moms mothers name was Patrisha so we named her Peyton (witch is the Irish form) and then Bay after my grandfathers mothers last name! Just some thoughts, good luck and have fun but remember this is the name they have to have for the rest of her life!

I feel your pain! We argued for 9 months about what to name our second daughter and finally settled on Rachel Allison which was totally different then what we had been thinking about through most of the pregnancy. The websites all helped me out a lot too. If you google "baby names" there are a lot of options out there to look at and just to warn you, they don't always say the same thing about the same name. Good Luck!

Hi, We are expecting our second daughter in May. Names are tough. I like Emma Rose the best but Emma and Ashley are pretty common now. What about Rose as a first name???? I think it's beautiful. But if you like the popular names Emma is really pretty too.
Good luck and have fun!!!!!!!!

I really like both your names, maybe Emma Rose a little bit better. I can't think of any bad names associated with either of them, but I'm sure kids will find some horrible nicknames. They always do. My daughter's name is Elena Marie and one of her friends constantly calls her Lema. I have no idea how she came up with the name and I hate it but my daughter doesn't have a problem with it so I let them be.
If we would have had another girl, we probably would have named her Sarah Elizabeth, Johanna Elizabeth or maybe Kira Elizabeth (Elizabeth is after my husbands late mother).
Best to you and your family and Congratulations on the baby!
