Cat Is Peeing in the House! HELP!

My female cat has been peeing in the house since right before my daughter was born and I can't get her to stop! This isn't the first time she's peed/pooped in the house and in this spot, but this is the longest it has lasted and none of the things that worked before are working now. It's always in one or the other corner right by our front door on the hardwood, which is now warped and ruined from all the products I've had to use to get the smell out. I'm at my wits end to get her to stop peeing/pooping and to get rid of the smell, which everyone else says they can't smell, but I can. As a deterrent, I've tried pheremone plug-ins, pheremone spray, Dumb Cat spray, tin foil, placing her food and water bowls in those spots and putting food directly on the floor. Nothing has worked! She peed on the tin foil after a day, peed next to her bowls, ate the food off the floor and then peed.... She'll do it when we're in the same room with her and she's not sick or incontinent, she's fixed and I'm not willing to "get rid" of her. What else can I do to get her to stop? We've resorted to using unscented puppy pads simply to try to protect the floor and make clean-up easier.
As for getting the smell out, I've tried bleach, ammonia (not together!), Urine Gone, Dumb Cat spray, Mr. Clean, Lysol spray, and two types of Oxy sprays. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who responded. There is nothing medically wrong with the cat and she's not getting senile, just stinky. She's done this in the past, usually when she thinks big changes are on the way, just to assert herself. I think I've finally stopped her peeing/pooping by the front door with AirWick I-Motion automatic air fresheners. I put one in each corner where she was peeing/pooping and she hasn't done it since they arrived. They go off whenever anyone goes near and every 9 minutes otherwise. The noise they make and the spraying have kept her away successfully and they smell so much better. Now to just get rid of the residual smell...I will just keep experimenting with products. Wish me luck!

OK, first of all this is probably the most common cat complaint by owners-so you're not alone. Pre-warning: I study cat behavior, so this may be long-winded, but please bear with me!

First of all, Nature's Miracle will NOT work in that spot due to the other things you've already tried. Cat pee can only be eliminated with an enzymatic cleaner designed for cat pee, such as Nature's Miracle. When a cat pees in a new place, that should be the 1st and ONLY product used. It takes a couple weeks for the enzymatic reaction to complete its process, so keep the cat out of that spot during that time. If you have any concern that cat pee is still there, use a black light since you can see cat urine under it (not a cheap-o, go to Home Depot and get a good one for like $20- it will save a lot of time and money). If you have baseboards, the chances are the pee has gotten in there too and spread much further. Truthfully, the only solution is to get the wood replaced along with any other area the cat has peed on since you can't use Nature's Miracle at this point.

Now to the cause of the peeing. That can take years trying to figure out. For instance it took a good year for me to figure out why my female cat occasionally peed out of the litter box, which is due to cleanliness, level of litter in the box, and how often our other cat uses the box. As usual, you should always check fro medical issues first such as diabetes or crystals in the urine. Often, cats come out with a clean bill of health, so you have to try other avenues. Most likely your cat is still smelling urine, even if you can't detect it. Try different litters, placement of litter boxes, number of litter boxes (should always have at least 1 per cat, even 2 for 1 cat is good). Cats can be extremely picky about all of these and it just takes time and dedication to figure out the source of frustration for your cat. For instance, both of our cats prefer uncovered boxes in open areas (helps them feel less trapped). Where we like to put litter boxes and the type we like are generally the least preferable by the actual cat. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to message me.

Is she fixed. I had the same problem with my female cats until I had them spayed. As for the smell, use Kids n Pets. It's the only thing I've ever found that gets cat urine out of carpet. Good luck!

Cats do not like the smell of citrus. I have heard and tried putting lemon or orange peel in the spots cats pee or poop and it has worked for me. Keep the peel there until it shrivels up. Sometimes you need to replace it with a new one. It might take a couple of times but it worked for me. After a while the cat should stop peeing there. Also, you should check to see if the cat has a possible bladder infection. My cat peed all over the house once when she had one. Check for blood or little droplets of pee. Good luck, I hope this helps!

First question: how old is the cat? She may be showing signs of dementia. She may also just be a stubborn little nut!

My husband offered this suggestion: put a litterbox there.

For the smell use Odor Mute or Odorz Out. You can find them at PetSmart. Also check the Queen of Clean for tips on cleaning pet stains.

Lastly...*I* would get rid of the cat. Before I get labled as heartless, I am a huge animal lover. We currently have three dachshunds and three cats. BUT I have had animals ALL my life and this is not anywhere near normal behavior. For her to pee in her food bowl or anywhere near it is a sign that something is wrong. You may need to check with her vet because she may have a problem that isn't obvious to the untrained eye.

I second the idea to use Nature's Miracle. It successfully removed the cat urine smell from my carpet and a couch cushion.

Have you switched litter type or brands recently? Cats can be fussy about that and she could also be doing her business outside of the box if you're not scooping it often enough. Have you taken your cat to the vet to rule out a urinary infection? Also, you don't mention the age of your kitty-- if she's older, she could be having cognitive problems ie. senility.

If she's a young cat, it could be a behavioral issue associated with changes in the home like introducing a baby and sometimes cats never adjust. My male cat urinated in my house for more than 6 months and there was nothing medically wrong with him. I was advised that even if I placed him in a new home that he would most likely have continued the behavior due to the stress of being with a new family and I unfortunately ended up having to put him to sleep. It was a very difficult choice but for me, but I had to put my baby first. I couldn't compromise having a sanitary home for my child just to keep my cat.

I hope that your kitty shapes up soon!
