I have a Bissell Pro Heat (red one) and love it. It was worth every penny.

We have 3 dogs and we have a wooded lot so mt carpets (almost white) can get grimy looking fast.

We use it about every 3 months or so unless it is needed in between.

Never had an issues with carpet being too wet or anything like that. I do use the Hoover Pet Solution and love it.

I bought our Hoover "steam" vac a little over a year ago. It actually doesn't 'steam' -- you just put hot water in it, but I love it. It is really easy to use and does a great job. There were a ton of stains in our house when we moved in, and after a couple cleanings they are completely gone. I don't understand why people don't like the ones that have circular spinners instead of ones like a vacuum. This one has the circular spinners, and works wonders. Sometimes there is some carpet 'fuzz' that it lifts up, but that is from it not being cleaned in so long (our house was a rental for someone for years).
I also noticed a difference in the actual cleaners -- I've used the Deep Clean Hoover, the Oxy Hoover cleaner, and the Pet Cleaner by Hoover. I've found that the normal "Deep Clean" has done the best job -- made the carpet brighter and got more stains out. The others, even the pet one, didn't get all the pet stains out. Mine was only about $150 at target. Good luck!!!

Don't get one where the brushes go around like a top, get one where they go around like a rolling pin rolls. The ones that spin like a top only make the top of the carpet fuzzy. The other ones roll like a vacuum. If that wasn't a good way for them to work then all the vacuum's in the world would change them.

Look for one that has great suction because without that there isn't any need to even have one.

I bought a Rug Doctor. It's like the ones that can be rented.

I have a Hoover SpinScrub and really like it. It has great suction and really sucks up the shampoo/water when done. I used to have a Bissel and it would leave the carpets very wet - which meant it wasn't cleaning very well, it was just shooting soap and water into the carpet and leaving most of it there!!!! My friend has an older Hoover model and loves it as well! I still recommend getting carpets professionally done once per year and then just useing a home model to maintain spills and such and light general maintenance.
And for a vacuum - I love my Kirby!!!!

I've had my Hoover Steam Vac for over five years and love it. Keeps my house carpets clean and almost new looking. I've also used it to clean at my church and got many compliments on how great the carpets looked. They looked better after I cleaned them than they did after someone with a huge professional machine did them.

I love my Hoover Steam Vac! I clean my carpets about once a month and I am in LOVE with this machine! Only about $150 too!

i have a Hoover and love it. About half the price of a Bissel does a great job.

I honestly really dislike Kirby, way overpriced and does not work as well as my Hoover.
