Can He Be Teething Already?

Our baby boy is about a week shy of 3 months...and he has been drooling a lot now for the past few weeks or so. These past couple days have been terrible. He is just inconsolable. He screams like he is in so much pain, it's so sad. When we put our fingers in his mouth, he bites down on them pretty hard, but we don't feel any teeth coming through. My husband read that some babies gums can start swelling by this age..
Any advice? Suggestions?

Ditto! My son started teething about 3 months also. He's 14 months now and still drooling and crying. I had forgotten how miserable babies are while teething. I find that a sippy cup with ice and water helps him at this age, but at 3 months there's not much you can do besides Oraljel, teething tablets (they sort of work) and love:)
Good luck to us all!

Hi Darci.
Yes he can be teething. My daughter went through the same thing and she got 2 teeth at 3 months. My son didn't get a tooth till he was a year old and didn't lose his first one till he was in 2nd grade, then slowly after that. My daughter just started cutting her 2 bottom eye teeth. She will be 2 in April. She has about 12 teeth now. Every child is different but yes they can start to cut teeth at 3 months. I used Baby orajel and Hylands teething tablets. These items saved my sanity some nights. Teething rings, frozen mini bagels, frozen wash clothes will also help. I hope I was helpful.

Hi, I am going through the same thing. My little boy is 14 weeks and he has been teething for about 2 weeks already. I started using hyland homeopathic teething gel and it has calmed his crankiness. He is still constantly drooling and sucking on his hand but he does not appear to be as uncomfortable. I looked at oragel in the stores but it was actually less expensive to buy the homeopathic. I got it at Rolling Oats on 9th St. I'm sure Natures Finest on Central Ave also has it. Since I have been giving him this I have also been able to get him to take longer naps in the daytime which has done wonders for me. Good Luck

Absolutely. My little girl started about 3 months and has not stopped. She is now 11 months old and has 8 teeth and cutting her molars. Seems to never end. It will get better once the tooth finally cuts through. Hang in there, it won't be long. She loved to chew on popsicles. I would buy the ones that came in the clear plastic. Worked wonders.

Yes, he most certainly can be teething. Both of my sons starting drooling at 3 months, and had teeth by 4 months. My sons are 15 and 19 years of age, and back then, there really was only baby oragel and tylenol. I used frozen teething rings and bagels also. Now, there is infant advil, and I would imagine that there are other options you can discuss with your pediatrician. Cold usually makes the gums feel better.

Hi Darci,
I'd recommend asking your doctor, but I have read that it's possible for babies to BORN with teeth, so it must be possible he could be teething already.
Good luck!

It sounds like teething. They say the worst pain is when the tooth is still inside the gums, not yet poking through. My son liked to chew on soft books. He wasn't too much into the teething toys. He started drooling and teething at 4 months, but nothing poked through until he was 10months.

I have three girls ~ 6, almost 3 and a 1 yr old ~ they have been so different. I used orajel on my oldest, she cut the earliest and was the ONLY cranky one about it. My youngest started drooling at about 4 months but did not actually cut her first tooth till almost 11 months so don't be surprised if he drools for what seems like forever and no teeth show up for months ~ she did not drool so bad the entire time just kinda off and on and now has 6 teeth coming in at one time and not fussy about it?! Good Luck :)
