I have noticed that our family room has been inviting the bugs in :(. Its not a horrible problem just a few here and there but its GROSS! I cant stand bugs/spiders, etc. Mostly its these really tiny little spiders and a few water bugs, I think since we have lived here (almost 5 years) I have seen four centipedes, and of course those yucky warms that roll up. Anyone have any ideas about how to control them/keep them out. I wont be calling an exterminator since its not an infestation of spiders, just a few. Looking for something natural (kids and pets) preferably but any advice would be great.
Diatomaceous earth is an option. It is perfectly safe for humans but kills bugs. If you type it into google you will find many resources and much information about it.
Have you ever heard of a Hedgeball? It is a weird piece of fruit, but repels bugs. The bugs do not stick to it, they actually dont like it. It does not have an odor either. I found one when I first moved here and put it in our basement. It completely repelled the bugs. All you do is put it on a piece of tin foil up on a shelf. It will last about 3 months and just kind of shrivels. I know July through Oct is there prime time. They are hard to find. I got mine in a health food grocery store. I have the same deal at my house (I only see them when the seasons change....did anyone have any advice for you? If so, could you please share.
We have a very buggy basement (which will soon be the play room). I was told to try Borax or get a dehumidifier. I haven't done either yet. Looking forward to seeing all of the replies on this.
My uncle owns a pest control business and one day when he was over he told me to trim away any bushes or weeds outside that were touching the house. Then spray along the outside of the house as close as you can get to it. Also, if spraying anything inside the house you need to pull everything away from the walls and spray against the wall and also hit your heating vents.
If all else fails, I'd call a pest control company.
I use to work in the lawn and garden dept., at Home Depot and everyone wants something safe to get rid of bugs and something safe to fertilize their lawn. There are a few things like borax, soapy water but really if you want to get rid of them I'd bomb your house with a smoke bomb you can buy in the pestiside aisle. You will have to leave your house for a few hours and when you come home open all windows to air it out and wipe down counters and such but it will get the bugs, the bugs you don't see, the bugs in the cracks, the bugs hiding it gets them all. Then they sell a product that you spray around your foundation and windows and doors outside to keep bugs out.
I just read that Borax kills bugs. There was a column in the Pioneer Press Everyday Cheapskate sometime last week. Borax is natural & can be used for other things too.
