Can anyone give me their opinions/recos on a good breast pump. I want to buy the Isis Avent Duo w/IQ but was told that the medella one is good also. Any other brands are welcome.

What can I do next?

I used the Medela Pump in Style Advanced .....I loved it! Very expensive though, if memeory serves me right it was almost $300.00! I used it for only 2 months but it worked very well for me in those two months. (It even came with a backpack for easy travel.)

Hi! Just read your message. Check out www.naturalfamilyboutique.com/?L. You'll find the Whisper wear breast pump there. You can get it in a single or double pump. These pumps are supper comfortable and very quiet!

Also, wearing the baby is a great idea for cranky or colicy babies. (A lot of the time the only thing that you can do is to hold and reassure them - wearing them allows you to do that and still have a free hand or two for other things/kids). You'll find slings on the site that I posted about as well.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

JUST got done pumping with my Medella, and open this email :) anyway, I have nothing but RAVE REIVIEWS to pass along about the Medella... though it's expensive I know, worth every dime, I see this as my "lifeline". It's EASY to use, it has a plug and/or battery pack option, you can take it discreetly with you and it just looks like a black bag :) it works efficiently and within about 8 or less minutes I have a full bottle for my baby, instead of nursing for, what, about 30 minutes at a pop? Who's got that kind of time, not me with my older toddler running around! I nurse her at night so this way any germs she's encountered will enter ME and my body will make antibodies to give back to her (like a pharmacy!) so if you don't put baby to the breast you don't get that added advantage. But during the days I mostly just pump and feed her a bottle... she does NOT have this "nipple confusion", niether did my toddler when she was nursing, it was never an issue with either baby. Medella breastpump is my lifeline to the world and the inventor should get a gold medal!!!

I used the Avent Purely Yours breastpump and loved it. The only down side I was told to the Medela pump is the milk can back up in the tubes and get into the actual pump. There is no way to remove the pump from the bag and clean it. The Avent pump has a system on it that will not allow the milk to get into the actual tube/pump. I recommend getting the bag with the bottles/cooler, it's a little pricer but its much more convient when you have to pump when you are not home. It has ice packs that fit in the cooler with 6 bottles. Call Sherri at the Birth Boutique (not sure of the # www.birthboutique.com she was very helpful and knowledgeable)
Hope this helps! Good luck with finding the right one!

I was a breastfeeding mom for 8 months. I had the advent manual breast pump and a medella from the hospital and to be honest i loved the advent one the best. I worked very well, It was also way more comfortable thant the electric one. The electric one felt like it was going to rip my boob off to say the least. I bought my advent at target for around 50.00 and it was awsome. If you have any trouble with brestfeeding i would be glad to give you advice. I had a very hard time for about two weeks i even had a nurse to the house, she recomended the advent and said she has always heard good things about it. Hope I helped you out some.

I had issues with Medella. The cups that went around the breasts never fit properlly, I kept ordering them in other sizes and just never foudn the one I liked.

Also, I recommend buying a used pump with new cords, cups and other things. It really does save you tons of $

As a postpartum doula, I have worked with both types of pumps with my clients. I think it is more personal preference as to which is "better". I like the medela for ease of use and handling.
As far as colic goes, what do you mean by colic. That is sometimes a catch phrase. Try baby wearing if it is just a certain time of day that the baby is fussy. If it is after feedings, try burping more, especially If the baby seems to be gassy. If it is a difficulty putting the baby down, remember they have the opposite sleep patterns as us (deep second, light first and most babies don't like being put down until they are in deep sleep.

I loved my Medella. The most important thing to think of is, is the speed and suction adjustable. Some of the machines can suck to hard or not hard enough. Something that is adjustable works much better. I never had any problems with back up and I pumped for about 4 months. Also all of the pieces were dishwasher (top shelf only) safe, except the motor. I had the Medella duo. This way you can pump both sides at one time and it goes much faster. Just remember, the breast pump is much different then your baby. You may not get much milk at first. The pump doesn't suck the same and sometimes I would get more milk if I squeezed my breast at the same time as the suction. That also made it go faster.

I used the Playtex Embrace Double Breast Pump, and I love it!!! It was kind of expensive but definately worth the money. I even liked it better the the one from the hospital. I found that the madela one from the hospital has breast cups that don't really form to the breast. The Playtex Embrace does form to the breast and it doesn't just use suction, it also squeezes, just like the baby. Plus it came in a very nice bag that you can take anywhere and it just looks like a regular handbag, and it also has a car charger so that you can pump in the car on the go. I found this very handy when I returned to work and had to pump in my car, because the bathroom didn't have any outlets. I also liked the whole storage system from Playtex for storing the breastmilk, since I used the Playtex Nurser bottles. I would pump right into the drop in liners, put them in the freezer, and when we needed it, we would just take it out and put it right into the bottle and let it defrost.

I used a Medela breast pump while nursing both my daughters, now 3 years and 15 months old. The motor did finally die on me but it was great having it. I recommend the electric version over the manual. I also used the 2 oz. storage containers which came in handy when mixing with cereal. If you go with the Medela and ever need extra parts, check with me before buying them! (____@____.com)
