Breastfeeding During Pregnancy

Hi! J.:
My son will be 13 months on Tues., 4/24, I am 6-1/2 months pregnant, and went through the same thing you are. I researched this online and spoke with my doctor. From what I have read, it is safe unless you have a history of miscarriages. My doctor told me that the milk will dry up on its own and he would wean himself. This is true, although I will still nurse him if he wakes up in the middle of the night. So far, so good.

So, you are due very soon. What did you do and how did it turn out? I have a 14 month old and I'm thinking of getting pregnant. I would like to nurse her (just going to bed, nights and once in the morning) until she is 2 or 3. But I'm concerned about how that would work during pregnancy and after.

I breatfed my daughter up until i was 6 months pregnant, It is safe, But your child may not want to nurse after a while because the hormones change the taste of your milk, and you may want a few months to teach your child that now it's the new baby's turn

Hi J.,

I breastfed mt first until I was about twenty weeks pregnant. While most websites said I would be able to nurse the whole time, my OB said that by about 20 weeks, milk starts drying up to the point that most little ones will self-wean. And, that is exactly what my daughter did!

I mostly only nursed her right before bed. It helped when I weaned for my husband to put her to bed for awhile, if that is possible for you.

Also, my OB said to try to drink 64 oz of fluids but also eat a lot of fruit because it will help hydrate. I was very sick when pregnant with my second - so fruit and fluid was practically all I could eat (and about 3 or 4 bowls of cereal a day!!)
