I have been exclusively breastfeeding my daughter for 5 months and all of a sudden her poop has changed from a mustard color to army green? She also eats cereal, but I use breast milk to mix it. I have not changed anything in my diet. Any ideas on where this army green poop is coming from? It has been her last 3 poops that usually happen every two days. She did just get her first tooth and somedays eats like a champ and others is not so hungry. Any ideas are appreciated.
Totally normal. May have to do w/ food introduction. May have to do w/ swallowing a lot of saliva because of teething. Either way, take her cues - if she seems happy and fine, she is.
My LO (4.5 mo and exclusivly BF) did that a month or so ago and when I called my nurse she said to try to cut out my excess dairy. I did and that seemed to help but she also said that unless my daughter seemed ill that it probably was nothing and not to worry about it.
Green poop is an indication that the baby is getting too much foremilk. Maybe let her nurse for longer on one side so she can get more of the hindmilk.
that's normal babys poop will change colors as their body develops. and what the first lady said is also corect only worry if it's bloody. I was the annoying mom always calling the doctor for everything.

Green poop is an indication that your baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk. Basically if you don't let her drain each side completely then she will have green poop. You don't have to switch sides at each feeding. Put her on the last breast she fed from everytime until it is drained or switch if it's been more than 2 hours. You can get more info on kellymom.com.
My daughter was exclusively bfed for 18 months. The green is from formula. Stop the formula for 3 days and see if her poop turns yellow again.
Hi S. Call your daughter's peditrican and see what he/she says about it. They can give you the best advice. Someone else who has experience this with their child may not be the same reason why you baby's poop is changing colors.

My son is just over 3 months old and has been exclusively breastfed, his poop has been mostly the typical mustard yellow, but he has had some stretches of green poop. Our pediatrician said not to worry at all about the color, unless there is bright red blood, or if the consistency changes dramatically. Good luck!
It's cearal like the other mom's said. It is normal and will change back. I was scared to death though when I saw that green poop!!!
It's normal to be green. Is that rice cereal? You should add some fruit to the diet. She seems a little constipated.
She might be fighting off a bug. When this happened to my daughter my physician brother told me (I hope I am relaying this accurately) that it has to do with the food moving so quickly through the intestines that the bile (which is green) does not have a chance to be reabsorbed. That sometimes happens with an intestinal virus.
My baby is 3,5 months old, and at about 2 months or even less his poop started alternating between army green and mustard. He is exclusively breast-fed. The only other thing he consumes is Vi-Tri-Sol (with iron) - the baby vitamin. I thought that might have something to do with it, but as I say, it goes back and forth. I don't think it's terribly unusual. My pediatrician said the only poop she really worries about is if it's bloody. It can be purple and probably still be normal, the way babies poop :).
(In response to the comment about green poop being too much foremilk - I've read that that is the case only if it's green and very frothy/liquidy. If it's a regular consistency that means he is getting enough hindmilk, no matter the color.)

Once you feed your baby cereal...the mustard poop will not come back. Eventually the green will turn into brown poop.
Hi S.. I'm the mom of a 15 month old...we exclusively breastfed for the first 7 months. Somewhere during that time my little guy went from the mustard color to some very green pooh. We called our regular pediatric doctor (who just said don't worry) & then went to our naturopathic doctor about it. She's usually more into subtleties (dietary changes & such) but in the end...no one came up with anything. His pooh was simply green for a few weeks and then switched back to a mustardy-brown. Who knows. Not that this helps you understand, but perhaps it helps you to know there are others out there who have experienced this and there was nothing "wrong". :-)
