Breast Pump. - Wheeling,IL

With my first child I bought the $300 first years double pump, with my second child I bought a $60 first years pump. This one was listed as use for part time, it was electric double pump. I uesd both at work full time (3 times a day 5 days a week), both were fine. With my second child, I exclusively breast fed, so my milk supply was better and pumping was easier. What I noticed is that the more expensive pump expressed my milk faster,but both had the same result. For my child, I will use the cheaper pump because it was easier to carry, plus with it being less expensive, I had a spare that I could keep one at home and one at work.

I use(d) Medela. I would go with the one Mary Beth's neighbor is selling. I never had any problems with mine.

I have the Medela Advanced Pump and it's the best. It has the let down feature and I am able to pump both breast in 10- 15 minutes. I store all my milk in freezer bags and it couldn't be easier. I bought the Easy Expressions Bustier it allows you to pump handsfree!! Here's the site:

I bought the pump at Rush Copley in Aurora on Ogden for way less than anywhere plus they don't charge tax.

Hi! I really recommend the Medela Pump in Style. The only word of caution I have is that it is NOT recommended that you purchase a used breast pump, even with new tubing, etc. Google "buying used breast pump" and you will get several articles. I bough a brand new one on Ebay from a hospital (it had been a demonstrator model for childbirth class, but was never used to pump) and got a great deal. You can also find new ones on there as well. If you are unsure, I would just rent one from your hospital. good luck and congrats!!

Hi! I used the Medela Pump in style with my youngest child. He is 4 now and we are not having any more kids, but i wish I would of did this with my girls now. This one in my opinion is the best. I could get about 8 oz or more in 10 minutes. It is electric and a double pump. you can get it at Babys R Us and also at Burrlington Coat Factory. You can also buy one from a Lactation consultant.

I would definately go with the Medella!!!! I know they are expensive, but well worth it. There is the low end pumps that work, but not well. Good luck to you.

the avent isis hand pump (not electric) is fantastic! works as well as the double-electric pumps. much of pumping is in your mind--you must be relaxed and thinking about the baby or your milk will not flow (even if you are full). you can buy it at babies r us and many other places; i believe it is around $40. no need to get the sterilizer. just wipe the parts with medela pump wipes or hot water with soap and every so often in the dishwasher. i also would highly recommend the lactation consultant i used--jane o'connor of lactation associates, ###-###-####. good luck!

p.s. i forgot to mention... you can rent double electric pumps at the hospital, from lactation consultants and from old-fashioned drug stores if you need to pump when the baby is first born for undersupply, etc or if you just want to test it out before you buy one

Hands down, I am only going to use the ISIS Avent hand held breast pump again this time around. I was able to pump both breasts in about 10 minutes and get 2 full bottles. Cheap and last through 9 months of nursing. As long as you are relaxed, once you clamp down (sounds painfull, Heehee) the milk just flows. So much easier than all that tubing and electric breast pumps. It is totally worth every penny and more!!! I also purchased the electric medela breast pump and after a week, it went back in the box and never used it again.

I use Medela Pump in Style advanced. It was worth the money because I use it often and at work.

I pumped exclusively for my preemie son for the first 13 months and used the Ameda Purely Yours, it was great and I never once had a problem. It is much cheaper than the medela ones.

I use the Ameda electric pump and I love it!

I used an Ameda Purely Yours while at work for over 1 year. It worked great, and when I had to travel without my son I was able to pump and bring milk home for him when I returned. Plus, the Amedas are cheaper by about $100 than other models, and FDA approved to not contaminate your milk. Also simple to put together and easy to clean.

I went with the hospital rental , I only nursed for 3 months with my sons and I had no problems at all. If you choose to by a used one just make sure you purchase new hardware , your hospital should supply you with some .

Hi there. I ended up renting mine and was really pleased. I nursed for just over 7 months, so the cost wasn't too hard to bear. I used the Medela Symphony and was very successful. The only downside was the size/weight of it as I went back to work full-time so I was schlepping it with me every day. Good luck!

I really like my Avent Isis Uno. It's a manual/electric and you can set the speed for your baby's sucking rhythm. I used it at work for 3 weeks and found it very convenient to use. It takes about 10-15 minutes to pump both breasts. It's comfortable and effective. It's $150. They also make a Duo, which can pump both breasts at once. If you're going to be pumping exclusively and almost never nursing, perhaps a hospital-grade pump is best. They're faster, but less comfortable. If you're only going to be pumping occasionally to replace feedings or at work, then I would strongly recommend the Avent Isis. You can either plug it in or use the battery pack, it's very convenient.

I pumped almost exclusively until my little one was 12 months old. I used the Mendela Pump in Style Advanced. It is worth the money, but I would recommend you get the Advanced rather than the regular Pump in Style because of the stimulation effect that was added to the machine. It mimics the baby's fast sucking reflex during the first couple minutes of latching on, which stimulates your milk let-down.

The Pump in Style is a work horse pump - I am pregnant with my second now and I know it will see me through! Many of my working mom friends had this machine. It is of good quality and it is a double pump, so you pump in 1/2 the time since you can hook up to both breasts at one time.

Hi... I used a hospital grade pump for a couple of months as my twinkies were premature. It was Medela 2.0 (although there might be an even newer version). Really, nothing compares to hospital grade pumps. BUT they are expensive... it was $80 a month to rent. It really depends how long you plan on nursing. If for a short-while, hospital grade might be the route to go. We did purchase a Medela Advance Pump n' Style (I think that's the name of it). It can be pretty pricey but if you goodle breats pumps through Google/Products you can find some sites that offer it around $40 cheaper with no shipping too. You can also find places besides hospitals that to the rentals too.

The other thing to keep in mind... hospital grade pumps are sanitary to change user hands. Whereas with non-hospital grade technically only one user per pump. It's due to the way the pumping mechanism works so it can be unsanitary to pass from person to person.

A hospital grade pump (Medela's Symphony, Medela'a Classic, Ameda's SMB or Lact-E) are the best pumps available. Rental rates vary so check around.

You can look at these on the company's websites.

You will get more support and assistance renting from a Lactation Consultant than from a hospital or pharmacy and usually a better price.
