Bra Fittings

I am all but done nursing my 15 month old son, and it's time to update the bra selection and get out of these nursing bras. I don't know if Victoria's Secret is my best option, and I don't know where else I can go to be measured. Any BTDT's? I tried on a few of my old pre-kid bras and they don't come anywhere near fitting now. :( I'm looking to be truly fitted for the right bra, not just measured here and there to get a suitable size, kwim? I live in Arlington Heights.
Thanks!

i have heard that Nordstom's does it. Don't suppose you have to buy the bra there if it's too expensive.

I just went to Macy's and had one of the sales ladies fit me. She was amazing, she came into the dressing room with me, measured me, found some bras, they are Wacol (sp) brand...and amazing. I went to Oakbrook.

Nordstroms! They are great. VS bras don't last, and when I went to get fitted they did it wrong. I think they give them about 5 minutes of training.

Thanks, everyone!! Somehow I can't do the report on what happened {I just realized that somehow I have two ID's on here!}, but, wanted to thank you all for your replies. I am going to try Betty's and Nordstrom for fittings this weekend. I think the clothes I have will look much better without these nursing bras! Thanks!!

Betty Schwartz's Intimate Boutique as someone else recommended are really, really good. I love VS but when I got fitted at Betty I realized the difference and there is really no comparison.

Hi there! I used to do bra fitting so I am happy to impart a little advice to you. Big department stores like Macy's, JC Penny and Sears often have fit specialists on staff especially on weekends. What you want to know when you are fitting yourself for a bra is not necessarily your measurements. All companies sizes are completely different so you are just going to have to set aside sometime and try on as many bras as possible. Things to look for in a good bra are:

- the majority of your support should come from the body of the bra itself NOT the straps. The straps should only bare 10 percent of the load. So if you feel them digging into your shoulders the bra doesn't fit.

- To make sure you have the correct band size raise your hands over your head. The band shouldn't move and there should be NO gaps under your breasts.

-Do a t-shirt test. Bring a tight fitting t-shirt. If your breasts are bubbling out of the cups and you can see major indentations through your shirt the bra does not fit. The cup should lay smooth against your skin and not pucker or pinch.

-The band of the bra should fit evenly across your back and front and should never ride up in the back. If this happens go down a band size.

-Remember a good bra should look good AND feel good. It is not supposed to hurt.

-The biggest mistake most women make when buying a bra is being too concerned with what the size on the tag says. If it fits well and looks good that is all that matters.

Best of luck!

Nordstrom has the BEST bra fitters on the planet!!! I am a super skinny well endowed woman so bras have always been a difficult thing for me and after kids my boobs were a mess! I found great stuff there. Plan to spend a little money but the bras last me at least a year if I take care of them.

Go to Nordstroms or Betty Schwartz (corner of Lake Cook & AH Rds). You may be cutting some corners with the baby now, but a good bra is worth its weight in gold. Both Nordies & Betty should be having sales soon to, so don't be afraid to ask/tell them. It costs nothing to get measured and they'll call/mail you on sales especially Nordies since they work on commission and building customer bases. I say this because I have tried on every bra in Kohl's hoping to find a bargain... and am always disappointed. I wear Chantelle and they go on sale for $40 - normally $70. A good bra can make all the difference - even make the $7 Tshirt look good!

Nordstroms, Nordstroms, Nordstroms. They were headlined in the Oprah segment where 92% of women were wearing the wrong size. You don't have to purchase the bra there. You can just get the right bra fit and you can even look for them online.

Good luck! They even fit me...a plus-size woman which is REALLY difficult to find bras for me.

Nordstrom, definately is the best place to go. You will get a proper fitting, it's free, and you don't have to feel obligated to make a purchase there. I got fitted there, and then went to Nordstrom's Rack and purchased there for half the price. Sometimes you can find the exact same items on ebay for really reasonable prices too. Since you're in AH, Woodfield would be pretty close. Good luck!

There is a Lingerie shop in Buffalo Grove, I think. It's on the corner of Lake Cook Rd. and Arlington Ht's Rd. It's called Betty Schwartz. They are amazing. It's nothing fancy. They are just a real lingerie shop for everyday woman, but they have a huge selection and they help you every step of the way. And the bra's are not any more expensive then going to Kohl's. I go there whenever I've needed anything specific like maternity bra's or a strapless slimline bra. They have never disappointed me. They also have a little box of toys in the dressing room, so kids have something to do.

I HIGHLY recommend going to the nearest Norstrom to get fitted and to buy your bras there. The sales people are wonderful (helpful, friendly, and will bring you tons to choose from). If you get the bras home and wear them and decide you don't like them you can take them back and they will re-fit you. I have been there twice (once before I was pregnant and once during my pregnancy so far) and they have been so helpful. One time I had to return them because they weren't as comfortable as I had hoped and I had no problem doing this even though they had been worn. I have also gone to Intamicy (Oprah swears by them) but I wasn't such a fan and they don't take returns like Nordstrom does. I have even taken a few friends there who also loved the experience!

Good luck!

Nordstrom does fittings, although I'm not sure it would be an improvement in price over Vickie's. Good luck!

J.,

I recently had a fitting at Nordstrom in Woodfield. The lady who fitted/measured me was so helpful and had a cheerful personality. She brought in so many bras for me and I ended up buying some Wacoal bras. They fitted me the best and I was so happy to finally have some new bras that fitted correctly.

For me.. spending 50 dollars on a bra is kind of high, but I thought it is worth it when the bra fits perfectly. I may try Nordstom Rack or Marshalls next time to see if they happen to carry the same style and brand at a lower price.

Oh... getting back to Nordstrom... The other Nordstrom workers seemed great too. The fitting rooms were busy, but I still had great service.
