Does anyone know where to find a good deal on a formal dress? I have to go to a black tie wedding and none of my formalwear fits right now. I need to find something to wear that wont break the bank.
I want to thank everyone for there suggestions. I did find a dress and we had a great time at the wedding. It was absolutley beautiful and I got so many compliments on my dress. (The photographer and videographer actually asked to to be in several shots and I wasnt in the wedding!)Thanks everyone.
There is a place in North Dallas where you can rent formal wear...prom dresses...bridesmaid dresses. They had tons of beautiful dresses and they were very reasonable on the price.
I rented my bridesmaid dresses there years ago and it was awesome. I'll see if I can find the name of the place for you.
Why should the guys be the only ones to rent their formal wear...if you're only going to wear the dress once...just rent it!
Labels is an upscale resale shop at Preston and Frankford, next to the flagship Tom Thumb. It is on the NE corner set away from Preston a bit. I go there every time my husband has a work function I must attend. Because I only see those people a few times a year I don't wont to be wearing the same thing and since and I only wear formal clothing at those times so I don't spend much on it. It is really reasonable and the clothes are usualy quite nice.

I'm not sure where you are located, but there is a shop in Plano at Custer and Parker (SW corner)called Crissa's Closet. They often have very nice formal dresses for great prices. I once found a brand-new, tags on Escada suit there for $40. Also, all the proceeds go to Hope's Door (a women of domestic violence shelter).
I found a dress for an awards ceremony in the Boutique section at Steinmart. I agree with the other suggestions for Nordstrom rack. It takes a minute to find things in there. I wouldn't go on a Saturday (very crowded) and don't go on an empty stomach. Have fun!
Try 1/2 of 1/2, I know they have a location in McKinney and think there may be other locations in the metroplex. They have a great selection, some have issues but most are in great shape and the prices are great. My niece got her 8th grade prom dress there for $75 and the dress retailed for $300. Worth checking out!

You could try looking at a Thrift store. I know there is a Goodwill on Shiloh and Beltline in Garland that always has lots of formal dresses. Hope this helps!

There are some great consignment stores in the area that sell very nice formal dresses...worn once. I know there is one in Plano..but don't know the name. There is a very nice one at the Preston Forest shopping center in Dallas. It is called Clotheshorse Anonymous.
I took my daughter shopping back in October for a formal for homecoming. I was so surprised. At Ross we bought a cocktail dress for $25, at TJ Maxx we bought 3 more, 1 cocktail and two "tea length" for $25 each. Then I bought her a full length formal at Macy's for $100 for a choir competition. I was so surprised at the prices. We also hit Mervyns, Neimans off the rack, and many more. But all of these "discount" stores.

Check out the consignment shops in your area. One of the best that I have seen is in North Dallas - Preston/LBJ - called ReThreads.
I also found a couple of cute cocktail dresses at Penneys - the last time I was at the one at Stonebriar, they had a pretty good selection.

I have never had a problem not finding the perfect dress at Neimans. Don't let the name scare you. You can get a great dress there and not break the bank. The last one I got was around $250, 4 yrs ago, still in great shape and I still wear it. That is not a waste of money when it is a classic.
About 10 yrs ago, I bought a classic black strapless velvet dress there for around $400 and it was Great. My daughter now wears that dress and loves it. Stick with classics!!!
Also, Special Occasions in North Dallas has a good selection.
Dillards always has a clearance rack with good stuff on it. I found my bridesmaid dresses there for $27 each.
Try Nordstrom Rack on Preston at Park. They have amazing things at discount prices. I have always found great things if you are willing to dig a bit.
Penney's does have a decent selection if the budget is tight. I have also found some dresses at Nordstrom Rack (at Park & Preston in Plano) I got a beautiful Nicole Miller for $39 once - it can be hit or miss but you might get lucky!
