My hubby's b-day is next week and we are on a pretty tight budget, so I want to make him something to be from our 2 year old. Last year I put together a scrapbook, and he loved that, but I really want to do something different this year. Any suggestions? Thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

I had my kids fingerpaint or just paint a big piece of paper and then framed it in a nice 10x13 frame so he could put it in his office.

My DH loves that "I love the whole world" song from the Discovery channel commercial. So I wrote a parody of it about how much the kids and I love him and we performed it for him after a nice dinner. Free, and he says it was the best gift we ever gave him.

I was in the same boat with my hubby's birthday this year. I went to Hobby Lobby (any arts & crafts store will have them) and I bought a mug. It's a clear plastic mug with a white insert which would be where the drink would go. Between the clear plastic shell & the white insert you can put in pictures or whatever you want. I bought a little bottle of paint & put my daughter's hand prints on paper & put that in it along with a picture of her. The whole project cost me under $5 but it's something he really really loved. Good luck!

Hi M., You could by plain Tshirts in both your hubby's size and your daughter's size and let her decorate them, so they have matching Tshirts that she made.

Sounds like we're all a bit strapped for $$ right now :)

For Father's Day I got a collage photo frame and put all of the picture of Daddy and Kaitlin in it so that he could hang it in his office. It was neat because she'd just turned 1, so I had pics from her birth - 13 months. No staged pictures - just random ones I'd taken when he wasn't really looking... like the 2 of them watching TV with baseball hats on backwards - that kind of stuff! Good luck!

You could get the 9.99 picture done at Portrait Innovations of the two of you then put his hand print on the other side of a double frame.

Can he wear a photo pin?? One year, I had a picture taken of just me and my daughter and had a photo put in a button, that my husband could wear. You could do your own photo of the two of you, or go to Walmart and ONLY do the package picture of the two of you. At Walmart you can buy a photo button and put whatever picture in it that you want, even if it is a portrait picture.
One other time, I had a tie (if he wears ties for work) made with my daughters picture on it. That was done through a catalog called Personal Creations. It did cost about $20 for the tie.

A sweatshirt or tee shirt with the words "World's Greatest Dad" hand painted on it and the child's hand prints on it always makes dad feel special!
A ball cap with the hand prints on it works and so does a coffee mug with the child's hand prints on it.

I got some model magic-- a little package-- and my daughter molded it and colored it with markers. It turned out really cute and was inexpensive to make.

My husband loves the bite-sized Dove Dark Chocolates. So, I bought a bag and took small blank stickers (or you could cut up larger ones), and wrote one reason why we love him on a sticker and stuck it to a chocolate piece. Then I put them in a jar. Every time he pulls one out, it is like another little gift reminding him why he is our super hero! The total cost was less than $5.

You could buy one of those handprint/footprint kits. Or an even cheaper way would be to paint her hands and place them on a sheet of paper. You could print a border off the internet...You can also do the same with her feet.

I know that their are many poems that can go with these precious prints...

Have fun!

Hi M.,

Does your hubby drink coffee? A few years back my husband took a really cute picture of our kids and I decided for Father's Day one year that I would use Shutterfly to create a coffee mug with that same picture on it! To this day, he still claims it to be his "favorite gift." You make check it out, but I believe it was less than $15 total with shipping! Just a thought...

All my best,
D.

My son gave my ex a double-sided picture frame. On one side of the frame, we put a picture of the 2 of them together. On the other side, we took a paper and paint and made a flower out of his finger and thumb prints. My son is now 12, and he still keeps this next to his bed!

Hi M.!

Around Father's Day, Hallmark was selling travel mugs that you could decorate yourself. I took out the pattern and used photos of our girls and sayings so that they were with him throughout the day. Also, at Hallmark, there was a frame that you could record a message on. I had my oldest sing a song that my husband loved. Then I put a photo of both girls in the frame. When he is feeling a little down at work, he can play her song on the frame and feel better. A Hallmark store might still have these items around, but I am not sure.

Also, for x-mas I make T-shirts for my husband, uncle & brother in law of a collage of pictures of the girls from the year. My husband wears his shirt when he gets home from work or on the weekends. I create the collage on the computer from digital photos and then print on iron on transfer paper. They now make transfer paper for dark colored clothing which works really well.

I have also done paintings for my husband and grandparents that we a big hit as well.

Good Luck!!

Last year for fathers day my son got my husband some books for Daddy to read to him at bed time. All the books were somehow related to a child's relationship to their Daddy. My son and my husband really enjoy reading these books together especially the nights that Daddy puts him nightnight. I can give you some suggestions if you are interested in buying some, or you and your little girl could make him a book about all the things she loves about her daddy.

Good luck.

A few years ago for Christmas I found a Handprints Poem and printed it on regular computer paper. Made a fancy cut along the outer edges and attached it to a thick piece of CardStock (for scrap booking). Added a picture of my daughter and her handprint and everyone we knew got one for Christmas. I still have several of the different Poems saved on my Comp, if you would like them send me a message. Hope that helps, Best of Luck!

When our oldest was 2, she made a picture for her daddy for his birthday. We bought a large poster board and some finger paints. I put her on the kitchen floor and let her go wild. (Don't worry, it all cleans up well) When she was done smearing her little fingers around, I helped her put a couple of hand prints on it and then I used her finger to put her name and date in the corner. We framed it with a poster frame and it still hangs on the wall, she's now 18!

My husband loved her gift more than anything we could've bought him and it's a treasured family memento. Plus, she had soooo much fun making it that we did a similar art project with our other daughter, but we used small pieces of clay for her to smear around on the poster board. It also turned out great and she too had a ton of fun making it for daddy. We have lots of great art pieces, but none as special or as valuable as these two are!

Have fun & experiment!

I remember being really strappped for money our first father's day with my now 9 year old daughter. I found an old picture frame and had her do an original art work out of finger paints. Do some research online and I think you can even make finger paints with corn starch and food coloring.

Good luck

A framed fingerpainting is always a great gift. I saw this in a store once and we made it ourselves...We got a cheap tshirt and some fabric paints and put our kids' footprints all over the front and wrote 'My kids walk all over me', then on the back put their hand prints and wrote the saying -'Anyone can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a Daddy.' I wrote their names and ages and my husband wears this very often.
