I had a baby in January and had an IUD placed in April. It's really great!! You don't have to worry about taking a pill or even changing put a ring. The doctor puts it in at the office and it's good for 5 years. I had Mirena put in and really haven't had a period since. I have not had any side effects except for some cramping and bloating for the first couple months after it was placed. (for about a week each month, not for two months straight). I would highly recommend!! Good luck!!

Hey K ,

I'm in the Mirena (IUD)boat!
I've had mine for 3 yrs. and haven't had any issues with it.
No period, light cramping but no hassle with pills or interchanging.
I highly recommend it.
Good Luck !

Hi, K.! I'm on my 3rd Mirena IUD and I couldn't more highly recommend it. I had my first one for about four years and then had it removed because we wanted a 2nd baby. I've had two more put it since she was born, as she's now 7 and they last for 5 years. I've never had ANY problems. In fact, I hardly have a period, which is something that may be contributed to the device. Also, it doesn't seem like you're too pleased with your Ob/Gyn and I have two FANTASTIC women that I could recommend. One's in Bedford and one's in Dallas @ Medical City. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like more information.

I have tried several different Birth Control pills, nuva ring, shot. I love Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo! My periods are always on time, helps my skin, doesn't make me crazy! The only thing is that I sometimes forget to take them. I have been checking into the IUD forms of BC just because you don't have to remember the pill and they last between 5-10 years ...but they have some strange side effects. But everyone's body is different. But if you are going for a pill then I think Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo is the best. Just my opinion!

I am using Mirena which is an IUD that stays in for up to 5 years. You can have it removed at any time if you choose to try to get pregnant. The only challenge is it is fairly expensive if your insurance will not cover it. You would need to check with them first. Mine was only the cost of an office copay, but I have heard that it costs as much as $500. Even at that price, it is still cheaper than birth control for 5 years. Good luck, and check with your OB-GYN.

I would try the Merana ( sorry I probably spelled that wrong ) its an implant that lasts for 5 years! I have it and so far so good! It will even lighten up your period after a few months to where it is almost nothing! And if you want a child, say in 2 years your doctor can remove and and you could start trying. Hope I helped a little! Good luck!

Hi K....it sounds to me like you may need a new OB/GYN if there are troubles talking about birth control. You should always be able to talk to your doctor about these things. Mine are wonderful if you're thinking of switching, if not, no big deal...just thought I'd offer.

I've been on a low dose bc pill (Necon 1/35)for 25 years and never had a single problem...went off twice, had two babies, four years apart and have been back on it for 11 years.

I'm very happy with Loestrin 24 FE. I haven't had any side effects except for my breast got slightly larger, which isn't a problem for me. My periods are only 2 days long and are extremely light. The only problem is that is a preferred drug on my insurance and would cost $60 a month, but my doctor was able to give me a card from Loestrin and it makes it $24 a month. So if you are interested talk to your doctor about the discount plan. I was on Seasonique for 3 months and bled for about 6 weeks straight.

I had the Mirena inplant put in and I love it! I hardly ever have periods anymore, which happens to some women on it, and if I do they last a day and are super lite. They last for five years or so too! I don't know your insurance, but I was on Medicaid and it was covered.

Man, I wish I had everyone's luck as far as the Mirena went... Everyone woman is different and there ARE side effects to this IUD. Some happen for others and some don't. I had mine put in bk in May of 07 and had it removed the following yr in Feb due to constant pain when having sex, foul odor, weight gain, and mood swings. I decided to try it again after my nxt which I had taken out last mth due to the above on top of migraines, lower back pain, period heavy, etc. As of now I'm not taking anything, just using the necessary precautions. I would say do your research on all of them before you decide. Plus I know it's great not to have a period to put up with it but at the same time it's part of nature to have one. It's sort of like a cleansing out. So I've oftened wondered, if you don't have a period then what's it doing? Building up in there? I rather have a period and complain than not at all..just me..good luck!!

I have the mirena IUD and I love it.You have it inserted and it will protect you for 5 years you just go in every year and have it checked just like you would go in for a pap.I love not having to remeber pills.I have been seening lawyer comercial about people sueing over Yaz here lately so I would stay away from that if I was you I cant remeber the details but if there is a major lawsuit over it i centainaly wouldnt want to take it anymore.

One year ago I got a ParaGard IUD. It last for up to eight years and is non-hormonal. I have not had a period yet (still nursing) . . . so I can not speak to the side effects typically experieced with an IUD (extra cramping, etc.). The best part -- I have not gotten pregnant again :)

I use the Mirena. I'm on my 2nd one, they last 5 years. I have had no periods for over 6 years! I have not had any side effects. There is cramping when it is inserted, last about 2-3 hours and spotting for about the first 3 months (nothing a thin pantyliner can't handle) - then no more periods! Research what will work for you the best. Good Luck!

I have the Mirena IUD and love it. It was easily inserted and easily removed (by a doctor). I had no trouble getting pregnant again and rarely have a period.

I suggest Nuva Ring, if you're not comfortable with the idea of an IUD.

On a side note, I saw an advertisement on TV for lawyers looking for people who were sickened by yaz. I guess it was causing severe side effects. Just an FYI, I saw it within the last week.
