We may be relocating to Murfreesboro in the next couple of months and I'm looking for the best elementary school or private school. My girls are 7 and 9 going into 2nd and 4th grade. Also, if you could recommend a great place to rent and a great place to build a home, preferably not a subdivision because my fiancee will build his office on the property. We'd like to rent while we get to know the area and build our home. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Really, any of the public schools in Murfreesboro are great...there is not a "bad" one to be honest. Private schools are not necessary but Middle Tennessee Christian School is good (my son went there for PK) but we moved to Jackson TN now so he does not go there. I have also heard good things about Providence Academy but it is supposed to be pretty pricey.
There are a ton of houses there so I am sure you will find something. Land is probably hard to find b/c they are building so many subdivisions there.
Rutherford Co is the fastest growing county in the nation...in thenext year Murfreesboro is supposed to get 30-40 new restaurants (one of my best friends husbands is a city council member)..
Enjoy Murfeesboro, it is a great city & a great place to raise your kids..traffic is not so fun (can take you 30 mins to get from one side of town to the other)but overall it is GREAT!

My children go to the Blackman area schools. I have always heard they are the best so when I bought a house, I bought it in the Blackman school area. It is located on Fortress Rd off Highway 96 toward Franklin. There is alot of land in that area that you can buy and live there and build an office. You better hurry though, that area is really growing out there. You will be close to the new mall that they are building and really close to everything else in Murfreesboro... that is off the main exit in Murfreesboro. As far as renting. I have seen little houses out but I don't notice too much because i am not looking for that.
If you are a teacher, I think that you will want to work in the Blackman school area. I use to be a hairdresser before I got married and had a baby and I had a few clients that were teachers and they eiter worked at Blackman or wanted to go to work and was trying to get a job teaching at Blackman.
There is Blackman Elementary, Blackman Middle and Blackman High School. The neat thing about that is that they are all built right there together unlike most schools where you have to go to one part of town for one school and then be busses to the opposite part of town for the other school. This way, your kids are all right there together in one spot.
I see where a few have written about christian schools. My 3 boys went to Middle Tenn Christian. The turn over rate is really great because the pay isn't that much for the teachers. So none of my children had the same teachers. The oldest had a bad education because his english is terrible when he writes and he didn't make very well on his act tests. The middle one had a great education there. He makes A's on most everything he does now. My youngest got the "in the middle" education. So it verys. The youngest cried alot to leave because the teacher that he had in 3rd grade was really old and just irritable and she was mistreating and losing her patience alot. But if you want a good Christian atmosphere, they are nice there unless you cross anyone and they they all stick together like glue. If you teach there, you won't make much money but I think that your children can go there for free or super super cheap.
I saw where someon wrote you about the city schools. I have heard NOT to go to the city schools. So I will let you be the judge of that. I have a 21, 18, and 16 yr old and remarried and now I have a 1 yr old and we moved where we wanted her to go, so the Blackman schools are going to be my choice.
I hope you have a nice move and if I can help you or answer anymore questions, please feel free to write.

If you haven't already you can go to the Ruherford County Chamber of Commerce on Memorial Blvd and gather info. regarding the area and the schools. My son has only gone to county schools but I have been impressed with all of them. He began in a year round school thru 4th grade, then onto the traditional calendar. There is also a couple of christian based schools.
As far as renting, either look in the paper or talk to a local realtor and let them know your plans. They sometimes have connections to rental property that will not tie you down to a extended lease. As far as building, you will have to go out into the county because there is hardly anything available in lots that a developer doesn't already have their hands on in the city. Even if you do find some land the price may be outrageous. Also if you are not familiar with Tennessee or Rutherford County remember you have rock, rock, rock and dirt. Not to be discouraging but individual building, not in a subdivision is becoming scarce. God luck!

We live in Rockvale. I taught in several schools last year and loved rockvale elementary the best. All the teachers seem really friendly and helpful. I loved all the students. And the school is well cared for. Right now it is PreK-8th. But they are currently building a new middle school. so by the time your kids are ready for it will be up and running.
