My 5 yr old had a pimple like spot on the outside of her belly botton the other day and she said it didnt hurt so i just left it and figured it would work it self out. Well last night in the bath i noticed it has gotten crusty around the whole belly button now! Any ideas on what it could be? I have now washed it with Hydren Proxide and put neosporin on it with a bandaid to cover it and will check it tonight but im cluesless!!!
I would bet it might be a pimple or simple little scratch that got infected. Check it latter, and if the neosporin isn't helping, a call to the consulting nurse in the morning might be in order. I'd be curious if she's running a fever? If not, it's probably nothing to worry about, but it you're concerned, call the consulting nurse at your doctor's office. It's what they're there for! My boys will get eczema in their belly button and it will get crusty if I don't catch it. Try using Cetaphil cream in it 2x daily to clear it up.
Sounds like impetigo. You'll need to see a doctor to get some meds for this. Hope she feels better soon.
No one can diagnose over the Internet, but what you're describing is consistent with a staph infection. Please take her to a doctor and get it checked out. If it is staph, it's treatable, but with specific antibiotics only, not over-the-counter products like neosporin.
With skin infections these days, I'd proceed with an abundance of caution. Staff spreads fast. Call the doc.
