I had a little over 2 months of bed rest between hospital and home and felt the same way after birth. For months I couldn't even walk more that 4 blocks without feeling horrible lower back and leg pains. But I'm happy to report it does go away. It lasted for more or less an year but it does go away. If I could have done it differently, I would have probably gone to a chiropractor. I know several people that improved a lot with it.

Don't worry, I had the same problem, you just rest, you will get back to normal after the delivery and after few months you can do some exercises to fix things

I wasn't on hospital bedrest, but only had bathroom priviledges @ home, and had the similar after effects you've mentioned. But as the previous mom mentioned it seemed to resolve itself after delivery. Although, my muscles were still pretty weak, but carrying the baby around it seemed I got stronger as he grew. Also my back continued to cause me great pain. So the first time ever I went to a chiropractor for about 1yr 3xs a week & I feel better than ever. Didn't have any back problems @ all w/ my second pregnancy. Good luck hang in there it will get better

Hi I had both home and hospital bed rest due to placenta previa and vasa previa. I was in bed for 16 weeks. I had the same symptoms as you and went though physical therapy for 6 months. I had muscle weakness, joint stiffness and pain everywhere, including excrutiating lower back and knee pain whenever I stood up to walk. Also my energy levels were really low for a long time. Keeping active helped. I had a friend walk with me on trails (flat ones, it was all I could take for a long time) for 1-2 miles weekly. You will bounce back. You need to strengthen up slowly or you might injure yourself so be patient. Honestly I think I still feel some of the effects of it-mostly on my back and legs-and it's been 2.5 years, but they are minor compared to the first 6 months post partum. Also the stiffness is entirely gone so that's good! I was in bed longer than you so if my timeline gives you any indication, if you stay active you will be fine. Talk to your Dr. about using motrin so you won't feel so much pain. Good luck, this is not permanent!

I was on bed rest during pregnancy prior to my birth too but at home. I had the same stiff feelings and old person feeling too and very, very low immunity after my son was born. I was very sick until I began improving my nutrition. Don't count on vitamins to help any of that. If fact they can be harmful as they are artificial, isolated, nutrient and not really nutrients that you might get from foods.
Please try increasing your spinach and other fruits and veggie with iron. Broccoli has more calcium, more Bioavailable to your body than any milk products. Eating a variety of 9-13 serving fruits and veggies each day will help almost every issue you are having, so do as much as you can. If you just can't eat that much, then get a whole food supplement that contains only fruits and vegetables (preferab;y a reputable one)
Along with that you will need to do some weight bearing activities when you are able as it's the only other thing to keep your bones strong. Just do it gradually. I know it seems so frustrating now,, but you will be your old self again.
Hope that helps, God Bless

Hi,
You will get back to normal. Give it some time, especially if you recently gave birth. That takes a toll also. I spent three months on bed with my second child, and one of them was hooked up to an IV in the hospital. Ever tried to shave your legs in one of those tiny showers there, haha, that was a very bad choice on my part. You survived, your here and so is the baby. It's going to take time for the body to get used to moving again.

Ninenine,
I can imagine you must be beyond tired. I wanted to second what some of the other Moms say about some alternative therapies. I would highly recommend chiropractic as well as acupuncture if you can afford the time and money. Acupuncure and herbs more than anything will help your body recover in a complete holistic way. Western medicine tends to treat complaints in an isolated manner.
A word about Magnesium too-- Magnesium comes in one form or another depending on what it's bound to chemically. You will find Magnesium Oxide is the cheapest. Don't bother with this as your body can't really absorb it in this form. Mag. citrate is really common but will eventually give you diarrhea (think Milk of Magnesia). I take Magnesium Malate or Magnesium Asporotate, both of which are easily available to your body and don't give you the runs.
Good luck to you and congratulations on your new little one.

Magnesium can improve bones and also chronic fatigue, arthritis and pain.
There is Nature Calm, magnesium malate pills, or magnesium oil spray. it takes 6+ months of daily pills or MG drink and application to bring cellular magesium levels up.
Boron strengthens bones as well. Calcium CANNOT harden bones without magnesium. We should take 2-3 times more magnesium than calcium. Drinking lots of milk can create magnesium deficiency.

Bed rest was the hardest thing I have ever done, by far harder that the actual birth!

I had to do it for 6 weeks.

I got out and walked every day w/ the baby after she was born and recovered well. Being outside with fresh air was wonderful! Just do a little more each day as you can and soon you will be back to normal.

Congratulations on making it through. You can do anything in life after going through that!

Hi Ninenine,

You must relax and not stress. There is a natural solution for your bones. It is the first time having a natural solution available to us with no side effects. If you are interested let me know and I will send you information.

Have a great Sunday.

I haven't gone through this personally but I have practiced and taught yoga for many years and would highly recommend yoga or working out with a trainer to rebuild your body and bones. Teaching yoga to people I have seen their bone structure change with weight bearing activity done slowl and carefully and with awareness over time. It really works, and is a great supplement to the nutrition and walking others have suggested. If you want to contact me personally for more recommendations my email is annefinstad at yahoo dot com.

Good luck and enjoy, my greatest learning personally have come from the motivations of the most difficult situations.

I would try Acupuncture if you can afford it and if your insurance covers it. I have been on bed rest for two pregnancies and I know how h*** o* your body it is. I have been having acupuncture and it has made such a difference. It helps to heal the body all by itself... it is far superior to any Western medicine.

Yoga is another option for body and mind strenghtening,.... if you have the time and energy with a new baby.

Hope you feel well again soon and Congratulations.
