Do any of you mommas think this may be a little too old looking for a 3 yr old? this is the one she liked and wanted and it could always be returned if it just looks too old on her. i was trying to get her to get a tankini but she wanted this one. thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well it can be returned, she has another bathing suit we got in January fir her and if this looks how i think it will its going back, her dad wouldn't give me his opinion on it, i hate 1 piec
es so they are out if the qurstion, too hard to go potty with a wet one piece, itll mainly be worn in our back yard or at my moms, im a 21 yr old mom so figured id ask on here.

Just wantedto say this, I WILL NOT have my daughter dress older then her age, I pick out her clothes normally but I figured i would give her a few options to choose from. normally her dad has an input but last night when i ordered everything he wouldnt give it he said he would rather see it on her then decide which is what i plan on doing, because she needs a bathing suit for when we go on vacation in june. I have NO problem telling her no your not getting that one I actually did that a couple times with bathing suits she wanted. I prefer tankinis and when we most likely return this that is what she will be getting. i dont want her dressing older then 3 as she looks like she is 4 or 5, she is the size of a older 4 year old.

I'm find dressing children as women is always pretty creepy. I just don't think little girls should be dressing skimpy. I don't think a child should wear that, sorry. I don't think anyone under the age of 18 should wear that, but I think I'd be in the minority there.

I think it's adorable. Here in California, bikinis are no big deal - all of us grew up wearing them non-stop from May through August and nobody thinks twice about it. Maybe it's different in the Midwest, I don't know. But I think it's a cute little swimsuit for a preschooler!

LOL a three year old picking out her own clothes? I'm sorry but it makes me laugh. If I had let my girls pick out their own clothes at that age they would have been wearing nothing but mermaid tails and plastic princess shoes!
Just go out and buy a few suits YOU think are appropriate and let her choose one. You can return the rest.
I still do this with my teenage son who hates to shop :)

I wore bikinis all the time when I was little! So was half the pool and beach! I'm 41 now. This used to not be an issue but somehow it's become one that I find silly. I see nothing sexual about it.

It wasn't until I got older that I started wearing one pieces because I didn't like my curves and wanted to hide them. Nice, low self esteem around 11 or 12 that lasted a while.

2 piece bathing suits are easier for little girls to go to the bathroom in. Peeling a wet one piece off a toddler desperate to pee is torture! Mine is still in swim diapers but I know I will find 2 pieces once she is no longer in them.

Ahh yeah, I am probably the least strict mom on earth but no matter what my girls said, cried or moaned, no bikinis until you have boobs. Yeah seriously I told my now twenty two year old that when she was four. Funny thing, when her little sister was five she wanted a bikini and there was her fourteen year old sister saying not until you have boobs before I could say it. :)

Sorry but they just look stupid on little girls and anyone who says otherwise is delusional. Just my opinion mind you but I have yet to see a child that can pull off what is clearly meant to cover boobs.

Oh, Genna, the then four year old, she is now eleven and has the boobs. She wants nothing to do with bikinis, have you heard, they fall off when you dive in the pool. :p

Ummm...

I am a pretty liberal Older mom...youngest kiddos are 15 (twins)...

I would be reluctant to have either of them wear this...much less actually SWIM (or play) in this.

Nor would they ask...

Just my 2 cents

Best luck!

Go with your gut feelings. I looked at the link you sent and thought "ugh, inappropriate"... but I also thought a tankini would help a little with sun protection.

I'll reiterate what everyone else said: you are the mom, you get to choose. If she won't wear a tankini, let her wear a tee shirt and shorts. If you set the precedent that she gets her way on clothes now when you feel the item is not suitable, it's going to be very hard to assert your authority when she gets older.

She is 3.
YOU choose her bathing suit.
I would not get that.
That is me.

When my daughter was 3, I chose her bathing suits.

My daughter is 9 now... and she knows what "skimpy" is.
She would not choose that for herself, even now at her age.
My daughter, does not like "skimpy" bathing suits.
She wear tankinis or one-piece bathing suits.
And that is fine by me.

She's 3, she doesn't get that kind of say. Tankinis are best! That one is bandaids on the top which is too old looking for anyone without breasts to hold them in place. Give her a choice of proper attire. If she doesn't like any of them either you pick it or she wears shorts and a t-shirt to the beach! There's always a one piece too.

I am sorry she likes this one because I would have to say no. I think that little girls try to hard to be like adults and try to dress to immodest. She is a little girl and she should dress like a little girl.

If you want to let her dress like this at 3 then it is your choice.

But think back to this moment when you are arguing with her about the see through shirt or skirt up to her hiney she is trying to sneak and wear to school when she is in jr. high. Think back to this moment when you had a teaching opportunity to teach her to respect her body and that showing less is more.

Never mind 'too old', the sun burn potential alone is not worth it.
Go for a tankini with a lot more coverage or use a rash guard shirt on her.

If you have to ask... it's probably too skimpy.

I wouldn't buy it for my 3 year old... if she starts in it now it will be expected when she's older...

Yes, in my opinion it's a bit too mature for a 3y.o. Add to it the simple fact that she has nothing on top to keep the top in place. It'll keep riding up and needing to be re-positioned every 10 seconds. Just a royal pain.

In my opinion if you have to ask than clearly its to risky. But the older she gets the less likely your going to like the idea of her wearing something so skimpy :) Hope it helps

If you have to ask, then that tells me you are not comfy with the suit. She is 3, you don't have to do everything she says, as you are the parent. It's okay to tell her no when you are not on board with something. This is why when it comes to certain things, I don't give my DD a choice. I shop alone and she needs to be happy with what I pick out. Kids don't need to be burdened with choosing between 10 different bathing suits at the store.

What I would be most worried about is that top riding up or coming undone, leaving her exposed. There are plenty of other cute suits out there that are appropriate for a 3 year old & that are way more functional than that.

I know you are young & that's why you came here for advice. Don't let your child run you, or have too much control over you right now - it will bite you in the butt majorly when she gets older.

I think as the mother YOU get to decide on a few bathing suits and have her choose from those.

They have REALLY cute O.-pieces and tankinis.

I asked my husband what he thought about our 3 yr old wearing the bikini you showed before giving him my opinion on it... he said the same thing I was thinking...

In our own back yard it isn't that big of a deal... out in public definitely not.

Yikes! No way! My daughter is lucky (at 6) that she's in a tankini. When she was 3 she is was in swim shorts and a swim shirt - but it was a cute one (pink) and bathing suit material.

Tell her if she wants to go swimming she can pick from a few tankinis (or one pieces) that you approve of. She is 3.

It's hard to believe it would even fit a 3yo...I don't think it matters, but the bottoms look like they'd fall down. My dd was so tiny that two piece suits hardly ever worked for her.

IMO it looks too old for a 3 yr old. I'm not even sure I would let either of my daughters wear that as a tween/teenager, but that is just me though.

It would be adorable. But I probably wouldn't get one with such a small bottom and top. Not with the weirdos out there.
I get what you are saying about letting your three year old pick. Either they are there at the store with you or they are on your lap while on line shopping. You ask their opinion and its more than you bargained for.

Hmm it does look a little old but my opinion is at that age they can get away with it. When they're older like puberty age is when you really have to watch it. I bought my 11 yr old one similar to that thinking it would cover everything but nope, she's developing more than I thought:(

I am with you in not liking one piece suits because of bathroom issues but I think it is a bit too mature for 3 year old. My daughter wears a two piece but typically they are tankinis except for a flag one that had a ruffly skirt look to the bottom.

I also get my daughter's opinion but I show her a few that are appropriate and ask which she prefers. It lets her pick but limits what she picks from so I can be comfortable with her choice.
