Hello, my daughter is 2 months old. She used to eat perfectly fine until about 2 weeks ago & I really dont know what to do. She has always been on a bottle and she is on similac sensitive formula but a couple weeks ago she would do her normal sucking her hands because she was hungry and I give her the bottle and she takes a couple sucks then spits it out and now its like that every single time. She will MAYBE eat 1 ounce at each feeding. What can I do? May I have done something wrong?? I'm really worried

What can I do next?

Try switching bottles, I had really good luck with the PLaytex Dropins, with the latex (yellowish/brown) nipples. It sounds like it could be thrush look for white dots in her mouth, acid reflux, or gerd. Or, she might be teething, but its kind of early. Try some bottles tonight, and call her doc tomorrow, I think they will want to see her!

I'd try some different nipples, make sure they are getting cleaned well so they are not "sour".
And if this has been going on for awhile and she's looking like she's losing weight you really should go to the doc.

You are right to be really worried. Your baby isn't getting the nutrition she needs. If you have not done so, call your pediatrician IMMEDIATELY and have her seen.

I would agree about checking her mouth. Look for sores, bumps. Also, could be an ear infection. Get to the doctor, it's been too long to wait any longer.

Absolutely get her to the doctor. Take your bottle and nipple with you.

You really have to get this under control, and you need medical advice. You ALSO need to have documented with your doctor that you are sought medical advice. If she ends up in trouble, and you haven't taken her to the doctor, child services could be brought in and they could take your daughter.

Good luck,
Dawn

Are you sure the nipple is letting milk out and the hole is not clogged? If she is not eating more than an ounce I would be feeding her very often and even at that she should be seen by your doctor right away. If a baby loses weight it's not like an adult losing. It's very serious.

Good advice already. My bet is either that she is starting teething and it hurts to suck or that the nipple flow is too slow and she is frustrated. Have you moved up to the next flow yet?

My son was a snacker and it ended up being reflux with him. He would have a snack every 30 minutes to an hour or so during the day, and he would be so exhausted that he would have a terrible time falling asleep in the afternoon. Look at symptoms of reflux. If there is an issue with that or something else, it seems like 2 months is the magic time that it appears. My son's reflux issue didnt come to light until 2 months of age. Good luck...

My daughter did this and she had reflux. Also check the nipple and make sure the flow is right and maybe try a different formula. I remember sitting in the doctor's office because my 2 month old wouldn't eat only to find that the nipple had been cut too large (my husband's way of unclogging the nipple was to jam a fork in it) and the flow was too fast. You could also experiment with different bottle types to see if she likes one better. At around the 2 month mark they wake up and start to become very particular about nipple and formula types.
