Avon Skin So Soft

Hi Moms,
I have asked 2 questions in the past couple of weeks and unfortunately my 2 questions were the only ones out of all of the requests submitted that no one responded to. I am not complaining, but I just hope that I'm not being boycotted out there :)
I would like to know where I can find avon skin so soft and how much does it cost now. I am looking for a safer alternative to the store bug repellents, something that does not contain deet. Can anyone help out please?

What can I do next?

Thanks so much to all the moms, dads, and grandmas who responded!
I found that they sell avon at our local flea market and I hadn't realized that there was an avon had a website, (even though I should have, there is a website for everything :).
I am even going to try some of the natural oils and compare prices to see which works better. Thanks so much! that helps me tremendously!

Hi V.,

I believe you have to order Avon products- you can google Avon Skin So Soft and the Avon site comes right up. I also noticed that they're selling something called Skin So Soft Bug Guard with "Picaridin" (whatever that is).
I've always heard SSS is a good repellent- but when I tried it in the Florida Keys years back- I got eaten alive by the mosquitos. It didn't work for me at all- in fact it had the opposite effect. I've heard others say it's great though- so maybe it's my body chemistry. If it doesn't work for you, at least you can use it in the tub. : )
Good luck!

Try an avon sales person. The prices vary on the size bottle you get. I got a large bottle a few years back, and I bel;ieve it was 14$ or so. I am not certain of the price. The lady across the street from where I used to live sold avon. I do not know if she is still around.

Good Morning V.,

I don't know where you live, but if you are anywhere near Orlando, then check out The Loop at Osceola Parkway and John Young Parkway. They have an Avon store there. Or you can go their website.

Another alternative is California Baby's bug repellant. It's not oily like the skin-so-soft. And it works! We were out at Disney's campgroundg (Fort Wilderness) and none of us got bit! CB relies on essential oils and natural products. Check them out at www.californiababy.com.

Good luck!

Hi V.,

I am an Avon representative... and they say the original Skin so Soft is good as a bug repellent but they (Avon) now have products called BUG GUARD ("The BUG GUARD products are found on the website go to Skin So Soft... then under that you will see "BUG GUARD"... those are all the Bug repellant products that they sell ) and one ingredient is Skin So Soft in it! It comes in lotions w/ sunblock in it, wipes, pump spray or sprays bottles... the sprays are DEET free too! They are sometimes on sale... but online they are not right now. They are 14 dollars right now. They are on AVON's website... my website is www.youravon.com/lpanton. You can register and buy it online. I can send you the free shipping email if you would like??? You can order anything from the site... unless you know anyone that sells it???
good luck... and check out the site, its www.avon.com.

Sincerely,

L. Panton

If you'd prefer to find someone who sells Avon you can check here to find a local distributor: http://shop.avon.com/shop/find_a_rep.asp

You would be better off with a product from the health food store. Many ingredients in mainstream products are unhealthy. Avon is mainstream. The cosmetic industry is not regulated. Health food store brands are more likely to have integrity. You can read their ingredients and they are usually plant parts, not chemicals. Try California Baby as suggested below or try the other brands they sell. Also, the person who posted about essential oils repelling bugs is right.

i think some insect stuff you buy at the store says deet free.
but as far as avon go to the yellow pages in your phone book and look up avon. it might give you a 800 number then maybe they can set you up to local dealers. sometimes your local beauty shops will have avon books in the cause the dealers place them there for more business.hopt this helps.
also i have heard this not sure how true it is but they say to rub yourself with a dryer sheet. you know the ones you place in the dryer to cling free cloths or whatever and that is suppose to keep bugs away too. so buy a box of dryer sheets and try it.good luck.

Hi V.,
I'm an herbalist, and I believe ANYTHING we put on our skin, containing ANY kind of chemical, is bad for our skin, and especially bad for us ladies! Since the skin is the largest organ, when we apply lotions & creams of any kind (other than natural), we are putting xeno-hormones in our bloodstream, raising our estrogen levels, and causing hormonal imbalance!!! I ONLY use jojoba oil on my skin, since it's almost identical to our own natural oils. When I need protection from bugs, I use lavendar essential oil. I also use it for a lot of other things, but it's an excellent bug repellent! If you live in Melbourne, I would like to suggest you go see Joanna-make a $50 appointment or-just stop in @ "Mama Jo's Sunshine Herbals", on Pinetree Rd (off South Patrick), and ask whatever questions you might have (try to keep 'em limited since they are super busy), and grab yourself some jojoba oil & lavender...ask what they do for bug repellent, Joanna may already have a spray made up. It's family run, Mom up front, hubby in the kitchen and Joanna in consultations, almost 24/7!!! If you have medical issues, I would make an appointment w/Joanna (not gonna get a more thorough analysis, for less $$$, any-
where you go!!!), and let Joanne know you have issues/questions, and she'll probably tell you to bring all paper-work/blood-work, etc. Joanna knows her stuff! She's on the Herbalist Guild which is very difficult & an honor! She went to school/college, and the proof is hung on the wall (medical), so she knows BOTH sides!
As you can tell, I highly reccommend her?! :)
Women's hormonal imbalances can be difficult to deal with, but when we help the body balance out, naturally...it can be easy. When western medicine uses synthetic drugs, they are-not only-damaging the liver (since that's where all foreign stuff gets put, when the body doesn't recognize somehting), but they are XENO-HORMONES...causing more im-
balance in the body!!!
If you look up the word 'Doctor' in the dictionary, you will find that the definition is "tacher"; "teach how to PREVENT illness!" I don't think that's what western/socialized medicine is doing, do you? I'm not one of those that refuses to see a doctor, because I know there's a time & place where their expertise is needed. I just refuse to go there (risking worse infection), unless it's 100% necessary!
I cannot remember the last time I was sick, or had to get an antibiotic! I'm 44yrs old (everyone thinks I'm 35), and I have a very active lifestyle (horses, etc), so I always want to be able to enjoy life, right up till the end! I do not want to be one of those that takes 20 different pills every day, and is old before their time!!! The body is an amazing machine!!! It CAN heal itself (even from hepititis or cancer...I've been priveledged enough to witness)!!!
Good luck & Blessings to you & your loved ones!!!
K.
PS don't know if you need help with cholesterol, weight-loss, moodiness, depression, pms, dry skin. hair, nails, etc?
You should also check out my MILA website! It's the best source of omega-3's out, AND it's a whole food (from the chai seed), backed by the FDA, and basically covers all of your nutritional needs in one easy dose a day!!! They're even making smaller sized now, for travel! Just check it out!

If you are trying to avoid chemicals altogether, I have heard that if you take a Bounce dryer sheet (unscented) and tuck it so it sticks out of your pocket or tie it on a belt loop that it keeps mosquitos away.

Also, OFF has a new product. I haven't tried it yet and don't know if it's Deet free, but it's a clip on fan. It comes with a disk that you put in the fan-- once you open the disk, you have 2 weeks to use it up before you have to throw it away and get a new refill disk. The fan clips on your clothes and faces AWAY from you so it circulates the repellant around the area near you, but not directly onto your skin. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, but we have one that we're waiting to open for my son to take to Boy Scout camp this summer.

I use fabric softener sheets as my bug repellent. Advice from a friend with a small child and I saw her rub an unused fabric softener sheet on her kid at a picnic. After rubbing it on her arms, forehead, legs, etc she tied one sheet to her belt loop and "re-rubbed" every 30 minutes or so. It worked like a charm. That was years ago and I've been using the same method on my little boys ever since.
