Hey Mama's. I am considering starting my daycare back up this summer. Am thinking of the ages 7-12. How do you all think a daycare in that age group would go over? I have been giving thought to going back to it. I used to do licensed home daycare and went back to school for the teaching degree. Which I got. Then had a couple health issues. Which are now resolved. Treatments are done. YEAH!! But back to subject at hand. Am thinking of doing daycare with kids in the 7-12 range. Old enough to go on field trips and do fun stuff. No little bitties with diapers etc. What would the need be for that? I know 12 is on the high end but I would not have left my 11 or 12 year old home alone and am betting maybe other moms feel the same. So is there a need for this? How would you advertise for it? What would be a reasonable fee for this? Just trying to get ducks in a row before I start. If you have any thoughts please send them my way as I want to get back to work with kids and thought for the summer this would be a good start.

What can I do next?

I don't know how that would go over. Most of the older kids I know (10 and up) just do camps during the summer, daycamps, that their friends are in. My park district has already had registration for those programs. So most people I know already have their summer figured out.

To figure out a fee, I would look at your park district brochure and see what their pricing is for a camp and figure an hourly rate. Then I would look at one of their planned trips and see how much they charge for it.

As far as getting the word out, maybe through a church or moms group? Sorry I don't have a better suggestion for that.

I think it's a good idea but you may want to present it as more of a camp rather than daycare.

I think it would be a great idea. In fact I have a friend who is a single mom & her son is 11 (will be 12 in aug). She is trying to figure out what to do with him this summer. She lives in Montgomery (near 30 & Gordon)so if you decided to do this please let me know so I can forward your info to her.
