Allergies and Toddlers

How severe is severe? If you are talking stuffy/runny nose, ENT Drs recommend using salt water nasal washes to clean the nose -- get allergens and stuffiness cleared out. You may need to determine the cause. It is likely these allergies may worsen. Keep track of season and what triggers allergic response -- ie, stirred up dust under bed or visited friend w/ cat, etc. Most pediatricians don't refer for allergy testing unless severe or life threatening.

My son had severe food allergies and we took him to a chiropractor that uses NMT therapy(www.nmt.md). We saw results within a few treatments and after a year he is tolerating most of the offenders. I was told not to do allergy testing before the age of 3 because the results aren't reliable. The child's body is constantly changing and they are outgrowing and becoming sensitive to new things all the time.

I want to second the NAET recommendation. It has helped me, my 4 year old daughter and (most) friends tremendously! If you get treated during pg, it will automatically benefit your baby. I was anemic during pg, (I was both allergic thus deficient in iron) and i got that cleared. My iron levels shot up 2 days after my very non-invasive treatment (none of the iron pills were working) and I was able to have a homebirth. At the 11 month doctor visit, her iron levels were high too (not the case with my newborn).

As a newborn, my daughter became horribly congested. It turned out she had a WHEAT allergy. I was glad I didn't have to avoid wheat for months (as I was BFing). It was cleared for her, no problems. I have a friend whose newborn daughter was allergic to COTTON! She got cleared of it too.

I'd first go to an allergist to figure out what exactly it is your child is allergic to and then go from there.

My 15 month old daughter and I have been wheezing for 3 months (whereas my other two kids and husband have been fine) and it turned out that we had mold in the house. The two of us are just severely allergic and we reacted when no one else did.

hhmmm im not sure about homeopathic ways but i do know that what helps my daughter (whos 17months) is and air purifire and on really bad days i run a cool mist humidafire (at night to keep the mucus loose). i also wash her bedding and pillow at least once a week. good luck!

Grape Seed oil has done the trick for my dad, he is allergic to the entire planet!!!

We also used Bioset (a subset of NAET) with Cheryl Thomas is Solana Beach. We also used the homeopathic remedy histaminum which was SO helpful. Between the two, we saw a huge difference.

We saw two pediatric allergists, the first insisted on testing and then told us AFTER that the results could not be relied upon because my son was so young. The second suggested we do bloodwork and then avoid everything that came up on the skin test and the blood test. That's when we started bioset.....

From my experience, kids don't just "come down with" anything. It has it's triggers. What has changed? Has he always had "symptoms" but never attacks? I know that I never liked my granmothers cooking as a child, that is because she put dill in everything and i didn't know i was allergic until, after a meal with her I woke up in the hospital.

I was gonna say, like others did, detox the home of many common household cleansers (that's how Soapworks got started: the mom whose baby would get deathly ill amd they couldn't figure it out, then she finally figured out it was always the day after she cleaned the house...so necessity was the mother of invention). Did you know that some astronomically high percentage of all pollutants are found inside the home? Don't remember the exact %, but it is well over 70%. OTher thing I was gonna recommend is a air purifier (not filter) by ____@____.com://www.EcoQuestIntl.com

I researched them awhile back and found them to be the best at the time. They're not cheap though.

You have two choices. Either remove everything you can from their environment, or have the child tested. Many doctors wont test at this age, saying that alergies change so much that the tests just arent acurate. But I found that knowing what I was dealing with made all the difference, even if it may change in a year. Otherwise, the dog, the carpet, drapes,anything that is suspect, has to go. You also need an excellent pediatric alergist-i highly recomment dr. sherman gilman in the city of orange. He saved my daughters life, i have no doubt. ###-###-####)

Has your toddler been vaccinated? Many times these vaccines trigger allergies after little ones have to store up all those toxins from them.

You may want to look into cleansing his little body from mercury and other heavy metals, if he has been vaccinated. I can guide you further on that if you choose. (I am a nutrition coach.) This may serve to clear up these quite well.

They have a whole laundry line and also household cleaning products which have no bleach, phosphates, perfumes. They are 100 % natural not just partially like some of the new commercial brands (Clorox Green, Seventh Generation). They have made such a difference in our home and they can in yours too. Costco online carries air purifiers and humidifiers by Germ Guardian. My personal experience with them has been great.

i am taking my six month old son to a practioner who uses NAET for allergy ellimination -- my son has baby eczema which often times leads to severe allergies and/or asthma.
You have to truly embrace a holistic and homeopathic approach because it is a very different process than anything i have expereinced in the past.

I know you are looking for remedies, but you may want to first find out the cause. The pediatrician can run a simple blood test to help determine the offensive culprit. Then you know what you are dealing with. Many remedies just mask the allergic response, treating the symptoms, not the cause. Good luck!

how about an air purifier for the house and his room? Target sells them..also maybe go to Wholefoods and ask the nutritionists in the vitamin dept. or google it?

what helped my son is to get a hypoallergenic cover for his pillow that is very solid so dust can't get through it and then put a cotton pillowcase over it. He used to wake up with a stuffy nose every day til we did this. I found some at Target.
