Have any of you moms ever had your child have an allergic reaction to canned tuna? I ate tuna and was breastfeeding my 8mo old and he broke out into a terrible rash/bumps on his legs, arms and it itches like crazy. I am guessing this is what caused it but I am curious if any of you have had this before and how did you resolve it at home, over the counter medicine, etc, or did it go away on its own or did you have to take the child to the doctor?

What can I do next?

Are you sure it was the Tuna? anything you ate in the last few hours could be the culpret. I could not eat corn while i was breast feeding. Daughter could not handle it. It takes a few days for what you have eaten to cleanse out of your system. But fish is a common allergy. When my daughter had an allergic reaction we did take her to the doctor but they said they could not really do test till after 2 years and 4 years because you get a false result. Also did he get bit by an ant or something while he was sleeping? Sorry gave you more questions than answsers but I went througgh this and we had to slowly rule out items. But a call to the doctor will ease your mind.

you should call your doctor right away. Food allergies can be very dangerous and deadly. My daughter has a severe fish allergy and ONE BITE causes her throat to close up and she can't breathe. Don't risk it!

Not my intention to sound rude, but I am concerned because you said your 8 month old was itching "like crazy" but it sounds like you are looking for answers on here...what did you do? Any reaction could be dangerous regardless and should be immediately checked out by a doctor. Please dont wait.

I wouldn't think the Tuna would do this. Did you have onions in the tuna?? It could be anything you had eaten in the last twenty four hours to cause the rash. And it might not be something you ate at all. Did you change laundry detergents, get a new blanket or clothing for him? Lots of things that need to be considered. Give him a bath in baking soda to ease the itching, then put aloe lotion on it. It should clear it up.

Are you sure it's the tuna? Did you mix in mayo, lemon juice or anything else? I would take him to the doctor because he's so young, you can't even use topical creams for kids under 2 or 3.

It is probably the mercury.
Since your are nursing I suggest lots of water, apple cider, and obviously no more tuna for now.

sorry to hear about the rash. an oatmeal bath may help. I consider your child lucky as tuna is not intended for human consumption, it's intended to swim in the water. It's flesh is well known to be riddled with chemicals and all sorts of toxins.
Looking for protein? A safer bet would be to stick with lentils or beans or quinoa which is easy on the environment and easy on your system.
