My daughter is 9 months old and is having a tough time cutting teeth. I have been giving her Tylenol before she goes to bed, but the last few nights she has still been up a good partof the night. Any helpful hints?

What can I do next?

We really good luck with Hyland's Teething tablets. You can find them at health food stores or at some Walgreens. They also make a teething gel and the consensus among my friends is if the gel works for you the tablets don't, or vice versa. Good luck!!!

My son cut his first 2 teeth at 3 months. He is now 5 months. I hightly recommend Hyland's Teething Pills. They can be found in most drug stores in the baby aisle. They are homeopathic with no side affects. They are tiny tablets that disolve under the babies tongue and just numb the gums. Hyland's have been my life saver so far and I will continue to use them with my son.

I am a first time Mom as well. Other Mom's have suggested nightitme Baby Orajel, alternating Tylenol & IBuprophen, putting children's liquid Benedryl on their gums. So far my baby has not had a rough time yet. I have used the Tylenol and liquid Benedryl. Belle loves the taste of the liquid Benedryl. She stops crying right away. Hope that helps!

Hi A. - I used a lot of the Highlands teething tabs with my first son and they worked wonders. My second son had better teething relief with the Highlands earache tabs. With both, we would dose every 15-20 minutes until the pain subsided and then every 4 hours.

I've heard to refrain from Orajel numbing products because they can "toughen" the gums.

Also, you might consider ibuprofen (baby Motrin/baby advil etc)rather than Tylenol. Ibuprofen works better on inflammatory pain and lasts a little longer than Tylenol. 6-8 hours rather than 4 with Tylenol.

For persistent pain, you can also alternate between Tylenol and ibuprofen (you can get dosing info. from your doc)

Another natural remedy for teething that my sister used for her daughter is barley water. She would make an infusion of organic barley flakes and warm water, strain and let her daughter drink the infusion in a bottle or sippy. I haven't tried this personally but she said it worked for her. (I think the teething tabs are easier and no doubt they probably taste better!

Best of luck to you and your daughter!

A.,

My son also had a terrible time with teething. None of the non-medical advise helped (teething tablets, chewing on wet washclothes or teething toys). One thing that did help early on, was simply rubbing his gums with our fingers. As he got more teeth, this was not a desirable solution (fur us, anyway :> ). In the end, the one thing that helped us most was Children's Motrin. Of course, check with your doctor to see what he/she recommends if Tylenol is not working for you. If they do approve Motrin, you'll need to get dosing information from them.

If you get any tips that are particularly helpful, let me know. I have a 5 month old that will soon be teething and I can use all the suggestions I can get - I'm sure she'll respond differently than my son did. That has been the case on everything so far.

Good Luck,
P.

Hello! You may try changing from tylenol to baby motrin or baby zylactin. I found that tylenol doesn't work as well for my daughter (who is now 2). During the day, try making a dilluted brew of chamomile tea, keep it in the fridge and soak a washcloth for her to chew on. I always tried a more natural approach before the last resort, which was motrin. Good luck!

You could try "Teething Tablets" by Hyland. You use them through out the day.
Also you can find this thing that looks like a net w/ a handle that I put frozen grapes into(I think it's made by Lil Munchkins?) They do have them at King Soopers sometimes. My son LOVES this and it helps alot w/ the pain. Good luck!

We tried using Tylenol for teething, but found that Ibuprofen (for babies) worked better for teething. Good luck

Hi, we used to put a clean, wet cloth in the freezer for a couple of minutes then use it to rub on the kids' gums. That seemed to ease the pain for a while anyway. My pediatrician also said that sometimes the Ibuprofin painkillers (Motrin, etc) might work better than Tylenol...you should check with your doctor about this. Good luck!

A., have you tried Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets? We have two children and this, along with mylicon drops for gas, got us through these tough times. If you are interested, you can find them near the pain relievers at stores like Wal-Mart. I hope it works as well for you as it did for us. Good luck!

My son is now three, & our first tooth was a nightmare, however, when I switched from Tylenol to homepathics we had the rest of the teeth come in with NO loss of sleep or stress. It turns out the tylenol was upsetting his tummy.
I used Hylands Teething gel, & teething tablets. They can be purchased at Whole Foods or Wild Oats. (Maybe other places too, but I go to Whole Foods) I also used Chamomilla from hylands during the day or when the pain seemed less intense. I also used the gel on a toothache of my own before I could get in to a dentist. It worked great.
Good Luck

My little boy will be two in March and had a pretty rough time teething. When he was sitting up, one thing I found worked pretty well was taking medium sized pieces of peeled apple, freezing them and putting them in one of those little mesh bags with the handles. Their called Fresh Food Feeders and you can get them at Babies R US. He could suck and chew on them until they defrosted which helped the pain. You could also use vegetables like carrots. I've never tried this but I've also heard that beef jerky helps break their teeth through. I think the salt helps toughen the gums up. It also helped my little guy to sing to him. Sometimes all they want is for someone to hold them. Good Luck!
