So i gave birth 4 months ago. At my 6 week post partum appointment i was put on Errin the mini pill. I started bleeding the first week and then the third week after starting the pill. Since then I havent had a period. I'm also breast feeding a couple times a day and supplementing with formula. Little did i know i didnt take the pill the EXACT same time each day bc my Ob didnt explain it to me. So now I'm concerned... why havent i had my period yet? Am i pregnant? I took 2 pregnancy tests both are negative. But with my son i had a blood pregnancy test at 2 months and it came back negative when actually I was prego... any ideas whats wrong with me?!?

Hi A.,

I'm on the mini pill and breastfeeding too for the same amount of time as you. I have not had me period either. My doctor told me this was normal so you are probably fine.

I would get a blood test just to double check. I got pregnant on the minipill. You do need to take it at the same time and keep in mind that it is not as effective as estrogen based bc. I would say, however, that you are probably fine. It's probably b/c you are BFing and just had a baby. It took a while for me to get back to "normal" after my son was born.

I never got my period while I was on the mini-pill. I had to go off of it to get my period back and that was about a year after my daughter was born. If you are concerned about it you should talk to your doctor but it isn't neccessarily something wrong with you.
Good luck!

It is also common to not have your period while breastfeeding as well. My son is 9 months old and I just barely got mine back (not that I missed it...)

I think you need to ask your dr to give you a blood test. The minipill is very unforgiving if you do not take it exactly at the same time each day and you would not want to keep taking it if you are pregnant.

I was on the mini pill for 7 months after my son was born before getting my first real period. I was breast feeding and bottle supplementing. It takes your body a while to get back to normal after giving birth and you probably just aren't there yet. If you really are concerned about being pregnant again you could check with your OB but it is probably just normal. If you do start having regular periods your OB will probably switch you back to regular birth control. Once you are ovulating the mini pill isn't really effective at preventing pregnancy anymore.

Hi,

I took my mini pill before bed, that was different each night. It wasn't the same time, but within a couple of hours of the same time each night. I didn't get my period for like 9 months since I was nursing...so stop worrying. Start taking your pill about the same time each day, in case you are a fertile mertile! :-)
With the pills comes a pamphlet that says to take it same time. So your OB would most likely default you to reading the pamphlet with the medication you take.
Good luck and God bless!

I didn't take any birth control pills ever and I didn't get my period until about 3 mo after I had my son and 4 mo after I had my daughter. Not sure what might be going on, but if you're concerned, go get a blood test done.
