8 Year Anniversary Ideas

Me and my husbands 8 year anniversary is upcoming in June. I am stumped on what to do~ Nice restaurants just make us feel stuffy...we are trying to save for Hawaii next summer so we are foregoing a "big" vacation for this summer. So vacationing for he anniversary isn't an option...other than maybe a night or two away. We socially drink, but not necessarily into a bar scene alone...I don't really know what we would like to do best! I like to shop, he likes to fish...all we do together is raise our daughters and participate in their extracurricular activities. Just looking for something fun, laid back that we would enjoy....any ideas? We live in Forney, but are up for a short drive/weekend away.

What can I do next?

Sounds like you two need to just get away for a day or two and rediscover what you like to do together and what you love about being together.

Painting with a Twist! My husband and I visited the one in Frisco. Everyone in the class paints the same thing with the step by step aid of the teacher. (I had never painted in my life.) Now our paintings hang side by side in the laundry room and I love them.

Check out Groupon, there are always fun things on there. Have you ever been to Granbury? They have cute bed and breakfasts and a town square that has lots of shops for you and a lake for fishing for him. They have a drive-in movie theater, and there is also a winery close to the lake also. I went last year and you take any food you like and they have tables set up with live music playing and eveyone sets their food on a big table and you basically share with everyone(buffet style) and then you buy their wine. It has a very laid back romantic feel especially once the sun goes down. I also see groupons with Horseback Trail rides with a romantic dinner. The painting class sounds fun too!

We LOVE great high end restaurants and always look for en excuse to go... However, if that is not your thing....

Come into Dallas for a quick weekend getaway. There are lots of things to do downtown with the new museum, Bush Library at SMU, shopping, just relaxing... Hotel ZaZa and the Crescent are two favorites! OR, you could go to a concert, Lone Star Park for horse racing (fun), or go see a sports team play!

I hope you have a great Hawaii trip.. We went on our 10th anniversay and LOVED every minute of it. DFW is a great airport for the Hawaii trips too.. we flew out early one morning and then our return flight was from Hawaii at 10pm and we arrived back to DFW around 5:30am. We've done this route twice and it works great! Also, a HUGE perk was having a limo service take us to/from the airport, especially the 5:30 am arrival flight to get us home and to bed for a nap!

find a nice little jazz bar, have some drinks, listen to some live music, walk around a lake, get a hotel for the night :-)

How about getting out of town (just the two of you if you can swing it)?
Somewhere close. Not a far drive. Anywhere between 30 mins & 2 hrs.
Just overnight!
You can enjoy a nice dinner (it doesn't have to be too expensive), a fun
breakfast and a leisurely lunch out of town.
Get him a card.
Write a nice note.
Maybe even compose a short poem detailing your first date or your
wedding.
Do something fun in that town.
Make a list of 8 things you adore about him and are thankful for.
Since you say all you do is raise your daughters, it's time to shake thing up a little by going out of town or skip that & pick up a fun activity together (bowling, a cooking class etc).

I often surprise my husband with tickets on special occasions, to a concert, comedy show or pro sporting event. It's a present and date night all in one, win win!

What about a special camping trip with just the two of you to someplace really pretty?

You never said what your budget was.
You could do a 4 day cruise out of Galveston or Miami for $349 per person. There are even some 7-day cruises for $349 per person in May.

You could go to cheapcarribean.com and get a long list of resorts for $600 or less per person including flight, meals and room.

You are only limited by your imagination.

BTW, we did 16 days in Hawaii for our 25th anniversary. We spent $5500+airfare, but if I had researched it we could have spent about $2000 for everything, including airfare.

Good luck to you and yours. AND Congratulations on your anniversary ! ! !

You could find a bed and breakfast type place for a little get away for the two of you. I'm not sure if any are close to you, but it is a thought.

You guys need a night away. Check into a local hotel and spend one night together. Go bowling, mini golf, movies, read a book together, take a walk, have him try shopping or you try fishing, stay in bed and just talk, whatever. Sounds like you guys need to reconnect a little!

My husband and I don't normally do more than a nice dinner for our anniversary, and we often have the kids with us. We are SO busy that it's how it works. They love to celebrate with us and we make sure to spend some alone time whenever possible.

We also have different interests, but it's amazing what one-on-one time will do for you guys.

It has been two years now since we last had some alone time, but we went about an hour away for two nights. We left at 8pm on Friday and were home by 11am on Sunday. We spent a lot of the weekend in the resort with our feet kicked up and reading! It was nice to lay on the couch together and read our own books. We also tried new restaurants, walked around the area (new to us then, now one of our favorite places to go). Can you find a new place that's still close where you haven't been? One night in a hotel can be under $100!

Happy Anniversary :). Have fun and enjoy the man you married!
