Hello Moms , thanks for taking the time to read this.

I have been having trouble staying asleep for anything longer than an hour or so for awhile now concidering I am one of those lucky few who have morning sickness throughout as well as the common heartburn & going to the bathroom every two hours lol. But recently I have not been getting hardly ANY sleep at all it took 4 hours of laying there last night b4 I fell asleep. Its everything from not getting comfortable to heartburn & everything in between. So I was looking for some suggestions of things that helped any of you out :) Thanks again

What can I do next?

My OB suggested a glass of wine. I didn't do it b/c I didn't feel right about it & don't really like wine.

Try anticipating and addressing any sleep issues before they crop up, make a routine of having a few crackers, some antacid or tea if that seems to help. Sleep with your head elevated.

Lastly, and I know some will poo poo this, but consider a glass of wine. My mom, mother-in-law and OB were all in favor. A happy momma makes for a happy baby, they said.

If you don't have a sleep pillow, go to target and get one if your bed is big enough for you, it and hubby (LOL). It really helped me get comfortable, and I used it on and off even after I had my son. If your back is bugging you when your not pregnant, it can be very helpful with finding a comfortable position. My son likes to play with it cause it's like a giant white cheeto :)

My OB prescribed me something for the heartburn and I always had to sleep with a pillow between my knees.

I'm 33 weeks and I have a hard time falling asleep also, and the issue with STAYING asleep is generally due to waking up every 2 hours for the bathroom and feeling pain from being in the same position since it's so hard to find a comfortable spot to sleep.

I sympathize!!

I had the same problem with heartburn. It was so bad that even water killed me. Those same hormones getting your body all loosened up for labor apparently also loosen the top stomach valve and can give you brutal reflux. A friend advised me to avoid mint (it is an irritant, not a soother, and she was right), coffee, chocolate, wine, tomatoes, basically tons of my diet. I found raw almonds helpful, and they are a great, healthy pregnancy snack. Also, I avoided all the herbal teas that I usually drank when not pregnant. Herbalists will know what is okay for you to drink while pregnant. If you believe the teas work, then you should believe that their effects are something you should consider like any other medication before you take them. The closest they get to FDA testing is testing through experience that only an herbalist or someone who really knows herbs can advise you on. Just because they are natural doesn't mean they are always safe in all instance. Almost all of my favorite teas had a warning--do not take if pregnant or nursing. So I drink mint, nursing tea, chamomile and black tea only right now. Check the labels before taking any herbal teas. At the end of the day, I found that Zantac worked for me. My doctor advised me that any of the over the counter heartburn medicines were safe for pregnancy. Check with your doctor and I'm sure he or she will say the same. Good luck. Luckily, the solution is in sight. Delivery resolved my heartburn issues!

Same thing happened to me in my last month. Try sleepy time tea. Two cups with honey before bed, it worked for me!

Good luck!

I have the exact same problem. Last week my Dr. told me to get some Tylenol p.m. The first night I took it, I slept soo deep and felt good all day long. I've been trying to remember to take it every night and I sleep better when I do, but that first night was awesome!

I think this is our bodies natural way of "breaking us in" to our new sleepless schedules, lol!! :)

I have the same problem with my pregnancy. I do not like wine either and my midwife said to stay away from Melatonin and Valeran (sp) in the Sleepy Time Tea while pregnant. She is not a doctor, so she may have been wrong, but I paid for her advice so I followed it.

She did recommend something called Sleepy Nights made by Wish Garden. They are a line of herbs designed for Pregnancy. I talked quite awhile with Vitamin Cottage and they recommended it as well. It is a bitter liquid that you add to any drink with the eye dropper, but juice masks it pretty well. It does not knock you out or make you groggy. It just clears your head and calms your thoughts.

As for heartburn, gum works amazing! Celery helps some and lots and lots of water during the day. I have to make sure that I eat more than 2 hours before I lay down (really hard when you are preg = ) Water caused most my heartburn, but adding a drop or two of peppermint worked great too.

The combo that works the best for me at bedtime is a mug of warm milk with some honey with a dropper full or two of Sleepy Time in it and a pillow between my knees. I am awake and alert until I lay down to relax and then I am out.
