So What Happened?

Ok, I went to the Dr. Today....Dr. said its probably just stress....but then from seeing what a lot of you have said I am not going be certain until the blood test comes back! Dr. also gave me some pills to push me to start if blood test comes back negative...I just took the test so However long it takes to get the results back I will let you all know what the outcome is...Thank you all for your advice and help. This is my first time requesting information and I find it to be wonderful...I really appreciate you ALL for taking time to respond! God Bless!

7/14/08 - My Dr. emailed me today and said that the blood test was negative...It really frustrates me that he tells me its probably "STRESS" I am stressed all the time and have never been late...however even after moving I haven't been all that stressed...its been more like HAPPINESS bc Im in love with the new house...I did that pregnancy calculator online and put it the beginning of my last period which was May 25 and it said my conception date would have been June 8 and I DID have intercourse that day and that was my ovulation day as well! SO..................Im confused....why haven't I started...Why am I feeling sick? could it be eptopic? Ughghg this is so frustrating!

I was the same way. My husband bought almost EVERY pregnancy test out there with neg. results. I even went to the dr. and got neg. results! Finally, the dr. did a BLOOD test and it came up POSITIVE. Maybe that is what you need to have the dr. do for you. Now, if that doesn't work...then maybe you need to be tested for diabetes...not to scare you at all but, see if the dr. can test you for that.

Hope I was some help to you...

I have always been regular with my period too. Once though, I didn't have it for three months in a row. I took a pregnancy test which was negative so I went to the doctor to find out what was going on. I had recently lost quite a bit of weight and was under a lot of stress and he said that was what caused it.

Hope this helps,
A.

Just to let you know, with my 2nd pregnancy I did the same thing. I was 3 weeks late and had taken multiple negative at home tests. So I called my doctor and did the blood HCG test and I was definatly pregnant! They told me that it happens to like 20% of all pregnancies. Good luck!!!!!! Let us know what happens:)!

I could be that your not producing enough of the hormone that shows that your pregnate or you could just be late for no reason. I was 2 weeks late back in march for NO reason at all. If you really concerned I would get a blood pregnancy test.

Moving is always stressful and stress can definitely make you irregular! Just in case, I would go get a blood test done at my dr's office- your dr should have someone in the office that can still do the test. With my first pregnancy I didn't get a positive home pregnancy test until I was more than 1/2 way through my pregnancy. I had already had 3 ultrasounds, seen the baby moving, heard the heartbeat... everything- and I still couldn't get a positive home pregnancy test (I just did it to see if I could get a positive result yet)! Major changes- such as moving- can alter your hormones temporarily- but if you're really worried about it, get the blood test. Good luck!!

Go to your doc's and get a blood test. I took 2 pregnancy tests (1 5weeks late and 1 8weeks late) both came back negative. I was 12 weeks and 1 day along when I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd! I guess that's why they only claim to be 99% correct.. :) good luck.

I would get a blood test, but it could just be stress from moving. If the test comes back negative then ask your Doctor to do some more blood tests. Good luck.

Hi,
I totally understand the feeling. When I was pregnant with our first. I was negative on several home pregnancy test, negative on the urine test at the dr's office, and I barely passed the blood test. I had to have my pregnancy hormone level checked every day for a week to make sure it was increasing to be 100% sure if I was pregnant. It could be stress but I would definately go to the dr. See if you can just get in with the PA or another physician while your dr is out. Good luck and hopefully you will know soon.

i bet if you were able to take two or three days to totally relax - no new home, no family, no job, you'd start right away. i am always real regular too, but when i'm not, usually i look back at the last month, or even two, and there is something that was stressful. drink LOTS of water, that always helps bring mine on if i am late. take your vitamins, eat well...it sounds like your busy life lately is catching up with you. if you're still worried, make a dr. appointment.

Question, are you using the same name brand of test each time? When I was pregnant with my second child, I used the EPT test each time. It kept saying negative. By the time I got fed up and went to the doctor, I was four months pregnant. For a joke, I tested again at 9 months with the EPT and it still said negative.

Good luck,
D.

I know its really hard but try to relax. The body responds to stress (good or bad)in different ways. Try to just do something enjoyable, a bubble bath and good book, new sights in your new neighborhood, go out to lunch with your sweeetheart or a friend. Do something that does not involve unpacking boxes or moving furniture. If your dr. is out sick is there another dr. in the office or maybe your general dr. or ob/gyn which ever you have not called. Good Luck!

It's possible that it's stress-related, but I recommend that you have a blood test done just to be sure. Some women don't produce enough of the pregnancy hormone to show up on early-detection OTC tests. I'm sure if you explain your situation to your dr.'s office either a nurse can administer the test or another dr. in the practice. You could also see if there are any clinics in your area, such as Planned Parenthood, that would be able to do it.

Have you been to the doctor? Home tests and come up negative due to your own bodies chemical balances... I know with both my kids home tests never worked but the blood test at the hospital said "your a mommy!" LOL Maybe try that!

A K,

First, I would say try to relax. It sounds you are pretty stressed or high strung and either could cause your period to be late. I used to live a very stressful lifestyle with working night shifts and taking care of my family: I missed my period for 3 months straight (no pregnancy - you would have had to do the deed to get preggo!). If you are pregnant, you'll still be pregnant next week. I don't think pregnancy tests can detect pregnancy hormones this early, so chill... Wait for your doc to be back and take a blood test. Nothing is wrong with you, it's just delayed. Peace!

It could be stress however, I took 5 tests before the 6th one finally showed up as positive. The test at the Dr. was correct the first time. I was almost 10 weeks before getting a positive so take care of yourself and relax just in case!

It could be stress, new environment, etc. Sometimes cycles seem to change for me as well. I will say, I took three negative home tests and one at the doctor's office before I got a positive one. So...if you still haven't started and think you could be pregnant, maybe make an appointment with your doctor. Good luck!

It could be stress.... moving is a big big deal. Also, it could be pregnancy, as you suspect! Negative tests are possible. My sister had negative tests at home and at the dr and had to finally do a blood test. You can go to the dr and get a test and a blood test there if they have a nurse practitioner who will order it. Just to be on the safe side, go get a multivitamin if you don't already take one and make sure you're getting the recommended amount of folic acid for a pregnant woman. (actually, if you're trying to conceive, its a greatidea to start taking supplements like a pregnant woman. Folic acid is most important in the 1st trimester.) Good luck!

Hi AK,

I, too, was very regular. In fact, I was so regular you could literally set your watch by my cycles. I had one month that I was late, and I just knew I was pregnant, but the pee sticks said otherwise. My doc did a blood test to confirm I was not pregnant. My hormones were just out of wack. I was actually trying to get pregnant at the time, so he gave me a hormone pill to start my period. Once that was over, he put me on Clomid for 1 month and bingo! I was pregnant. Try not to worry. The home preg. tests are 99% accurate. Chances are you are not pregnant. If your doc is out sick, call the office and ask them if you can go ahead and have a beta HCG blood test anyway just to confirm your negative results. If your doc uses a nurse practitioner, midwife, or partner, I am sure someone will OK the order. Good luck to you.

You didn't say whether you had done an at-home urine pregnancy test or a blood one done at the doctors. My reason for asking is because with both of my youngest children who are now 7 and 4, I had negative at-home pregnancy tests, but positive blood tests. If you have not had the blood test done, I would encourage you to do so. Perhaps if your doctor is still sick, you could have another physician (assuming there is more than one in his office)order the blood test. I too was very impatient to find out with my little ones, so I totally understand where you are coming from. I would love to hear how things turn out if you want to e-mail me. My email is ____@____.com luck!

Don't let the negative tests cloud what you are feeling. If you really feel in your gut that you are pregnant, you probably are. When I was pregnant with my twins (now 4 yrs old), I NEVER got a positive result. I had 7 over the counter tests, two done at the doctor's office and 2 blood tests which are supposed to be totally foolproof. No one but me believed that I was pregnant until I had an ultrasound and they saw two little heartbeats. Some women, even if they have in the past, just don't produce the hormone detected by pregnancy tests. Right before I delivered my twins, my doc gave me another blood and urine test jsut to see if it would turn positive---it did not. Listen to what your body and heart are telling you. Good luck!

You may still be pregnant but it's just not registering on the home tests. Make an appointment and ask for a serum HCG (blood pregnancy test). If your doc will be out for an extended period of time, see another provider in his/her office.
It is possible that something in the new house is making you nauseous (mold, water in carpet, dead animal, etc) but given the fact that you're two weeks late, I would check a blood pregnancy test first.

Go to your doctor and have them do a blood pregnancy test. Insist on it! My mom & I both never showed a positive with the urine tests until we were 3 months along. If your pregnant you need to be on prenatal vitamins and getting all that important care from your doctor as early as possible!!!!
Good luck!
